hey- first off, I realize sellers can charge whatever they want for their product. FINE. However paypal is NOT 4%... They charge EVERYONE the same fees now, it is 2.9% plus .30 USD... The difference is minimal but kinda lame of some sellers to bicker about.. On a $200 knife, at 4% is an additional $8. It should only be $6.10... $1.80 is the difference..

:jerkit:

As a buyer, I pay QUICK and I send the fees when asked.. If a seller has an issue with $1 in lost fees and gives attitude.... LSKIJDGOSIG Get over it.. end this pos rant.. Sellers, just add in your damned fees so everyone can just send the cost and be done.. I had to double send on my last order to make up the 2bux.. GIVE ME A BREAK. OK NOW I"M DONE RANTING..

I had commented in 2 private sellers posts and realized I have a place to vent, its RIGHT HERE>

It's also a violation of PP policy to charge extra for the fees. Hopefully no one is getting in trouble for private party sales.

B&M stores also pay extra for credit card processing, but they can't add that to the price of an item. I remember when I worked retail that I was told to try to run the magnetic strip on a card a whole lot before giving up & keying it in manually, because there was even extra fees for doing that.

Here's another post I wrote on the Paypal issue, though it was buried in another thread:

NEVER pay with the "personal" method on Paypal.

Never.

Never ever ever ever ever.

Doing this is saying that you agree to send them money and get nothing in return. And a lot of times, that's exactly what happens.

People who demand to be paid only by the "gift method" are sending up a very big red flag. If they are so willing to cheat Paypal, they're much more likely to turn around a cheat you.

This issue comes up all the time here, but sellers continue to snivel and pinch and cheat and lie.

All told, sometimes I find a decent deal on a knife and add the "paypal fee" just to get the knife. But I will never EVER send via "personal payment". What kind of fools do you take everyone for asking for that? Since when was an instant bank transfer for goods a free service? Never. If you use the service to get paid, PAY FOR THE SERVICE.

Anymore, when I'm looking at knives, if I see "add x% for PP fees", I move on...

Its such a small amount, its really irritating. If the person can't afford to eat a couple dollars, maybe they shouldn't be buying and selling knives.

It has been covered before, but just add the extra couple dollars into the price of the knife. Its so much easier that way

I have always used www.ppcalc.com to determine exact PP fees when it comes to thinking about the price I set.
Great link. Thank you.

For me, payments by Paypal are included as the cost of doing business. Any transaction on this forum, even between the BEST of buds--is business.

Sigh. This topic comes up at least once a month. :grumpy:

Sellers, remember that what we cherish the most in our lives is time. Shorter processing = MORE time = MORE value = Faster response.

How often I chuckle to see a listing with all the shipping and PP 'rules and fees' included. And then a few days later, there's the price drop bump.... :p Ummm, do the math.

Lastly, NOT having to go to the bank OR the P.O. saves me a LOT of time. That's worth something to me. Let's see, I can go to the PO or bank and spent 20 mins parking and in line for the check, or I can accept an $8 loss through PP and never leave my work/home. Hmmmmm.

Nice rant. I can't wait for next month's!

Great post.

Come on sellers, add it to the fricken final price! You will still get what you want AND most importantly everyone will live happily ever after. We dont need Paypal creating any more rules because of the people who cant follow the original ones

If it's such a small amount, why don't you pay it? Maybe you shouldn't be buying knives.

What a bunch of whiners. I offer buyers to pay via money order, if YOU choose to pay via PP then YOU can pay the fee.

Its not a matter of someone not wanting to pay the extra few bucks. In my mind its sellers who are to lazy to figure out what their pay in fee’s and add it to the price they’re asking for the knife.

Why can't the seller take 5 seconds and figure out the amount, and include it in the asking price.

I've gotten to the point where I don't do MO's either. Its a p.i.t.a going to the post office, and waiting a week, hoping its going to arrive.
I don't buy knives from people that add fees to the add either...
If they want to include them into the asking price, and I feel the price is fair, I don't care how they came to that amount. I'll pay what they are asking.

Its just that simple, and there is no shortage of knives to buy.

I have somewhat a different perspective on the personal tab. I never ask any buyer to use it. HOWEVER, when a knife maker has shipped me a knife for inspection and approval without payment and most of the ones I buy are customs from several makers I happen to buy from regularly. When I pay for the knife, I click the personal tab, then click payment owed. I do not see any ethical problem with this. I owe the maker. I pay the maker. If PP did not approve of this type of transaction, it would not be an option.
Just my .02, take it or leave it.

Set a price that covers your out of pockets.

I know this seems overly simple, but remember there was a lot of lead based paint out there for a while and some found those chips irresistable.
