Maroon linen micarta scales on black liner can almost look black in low light conditions. They are not particularly easy at capturing their true color in photos.
I thought I'd try to take some snaps today in brighter sunlight. Just the scales (all buffed) L to R - HDFK, LC, MC:

Is that the same as double red? I don’t recall if the offerings have changed. But those look really good to me.

Those older maroon micarta scales are no longer being made. I think the supplier/manufacturer may have discontinued/EOL for that product?

CPK later started to offer double black and double red micarta scales. Double red does look a lot like maroon, but I don't have a set the newer "D.R." to compare to these earlier maroon scales.

Double black and double red are listed as being canvas fabric based micarta. I always thought the original maroon scales were linen fabric based like black linen micarta scales. (However, I could be mistaken about this?)

Is your Kephart wearing unbuffed Double Red canvas micarta?
It looks like the UF2 has unbuffed Double Black... Also I'm guessing the D.R. isn't over a black liner?
I think the Kephart is just natural micarta, but I cleaned it up with some Ballistol a few days ago, and it darkened it up a bit. I like it.
FK2 in the middle.
The DEK1 has black liners under ODG.

Thanks, sometimes it can be hard to determine scales from photos.
I first initially thought that the Kephart was natural then I started to have doubts... I went and looked at un-buffed Double Black again and I'm now thinking that your FK2 may actually be un-buffed black canvas? Well anyways... I like the composition of your photo!

@JACKMANDU

I don't know about you, but at a certain age, or degree of shoulder wear and tear, a high mount under the arm, strong side or cross draw, may be fine for concealment under a garment, but pretty dang uncomfortable to draw from. (Speaking for myself, of course.)

I remember the days when it wasn't, but now, lower riding is better...and AIWB or anything from the hip bones forward is far less aggravating to these shoulders which have earned a breather after years of use and abuse.

I hear you. I keep thinking I can IWB carry knives, and it’s just never comfortable. I tinker around in the garage with different attachments and I always go back to something OWB. The tecloc rides too high for me, so I usually do the 2 pull the dot snaps method. View attachment 1976143
This is pretty comfortable and easy to draw. I can also remove the sheath without having to unbuckle my belt.
I go through this whole process with every new knife. It’s part of the hobby.
I can relate, my right shoulder is shot. High strong side IWB can be painful most of the time. I like to carry the UF2 ISP, or cross draw behind the belt. Also found it feels much better if I place it at 3 or 4 O clock with the blade forward and draw in reverse grip, or you can do a cavalry draw. Of course, I would like to have it on a drop loop, but I can’t get away with that in the suburbs.
