I'm sorry if I was the one that started this whole mess Chip, was just trying to get rid of some blades that I knew would never get used. Well hopefully this can get back on track and we can all benefit again.;)
You sir are the last person here that would nee to apologize:). The spirit you brought is admirable and it is that spirit I believe @strongbear0 was trying to continue in the thread. I understand wanting to keep a higher valued item up on the board but when you look at it wasn’t strongbear following with the true meaning pay it forward? He was simply going to put it up for someone who normally wouldn't be able to have such a nice knife. This is where @Quiet is wrong and misconstrued things as an “outsider” if you will and I don’t find it humorous as he stated many times. The knife truly would have been paid forward in the purest sense. I honestly don’t see the need for this to still be discussed. It has been and we move forward as gentlemen. WValtakis WValtakis this is not meant to say anything against you as I completely understand your desire to keep a nice higher end offering up, but I believe the one for one kept escalating just as the I will put up 20 items for your one did on the other side of that coin. One side affects those more fortunate and the others those that aren’t so. A happy medium we will once again find. To judge others generosity is a bad place to go. As I stated last night, I really appreciate this thread and being accepted so quickly. You all are a great group of people from all walks of life. Lets venture forth into the great pif abundance to come!

I forget what I sent you but you are all clear to chuck it in the river if you see fit :D

I’m with arrowhd and Quiet here.
The karma thing has gotten hilariously hard to follow, and the club like atmosphere is worsened by PIFs being posted and seconds later being claimed via proxy “I’m claiming this for one of the ten folks that are always in the mix”

I am on/off BF with big gaps in time because of work responsibilities, so I don’t really have an opportunity to engage for long periods, but it seems like every time I take a look back at the PIF thread, someone is middle of being annoyed at the vibe for some reason.

I don’t think banked karma should be a thing, and I also don’t think taking things to PM is a great idea either... because then shouldn't this ought to just go to the Marketplace? Besides, it’s already a tome to read to keep up, how does Jupiter keep pace if he needs to also constantly know what’s being decided via PMs?

Once a PIF offer is discussed by PM or email it is contingent on the one doing the taking to then return to PIF and write something to the effect: @JupiterPaladin I am taking the item offered by BF Member and posting this item as my PIF.
That is an easy protocol - importantly - alerts the keeper of the list of the change of status and anyone else who is paying attention.

Additional 2¢ - I agree too that banked karma and NO PIF required should not continue. As I wrote earlier - Offer today and claim tomorrow (so to speak). Works well and avoids confusion and/or conflict. I vote no more NO PIF.

IMHO and just offering my thoughts as to keeping things flowing smoothly.

Yeah, IDK. I think going to PM gums up the works and also doesn’t seem all that necessary based on the overall history of the thread. I’d personally rather know what’s being turned down so I’m not making the same mistake. I’ve been publicly told my PIF wasn’t acceptable, I’m still upright, lol.

This too ^ works - though it has the potential to add more posts and chatter and confusion.

However it is done - would be helpful if once decided, someone lets Jupiter P know what is happening.

The tanto benchmade is getting a true work out this weekend! From helping to pull out staples as I put up our no hunting/posted signs, to cutting up an apple straight off the tree for my son, and finally to helping clean out a header on a combine it's doing it all! I have zero worry that it can take it! Like a bare knuckle brawler that does ballet! Never thought I'd like such a beast!

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for the opportunity to try out knives and blades I never would have been able to! I'm finding that what I think I would have liked isn't so much the case as to what I really do like and am using!

Coming from the front end of getting into this hobby and thread, I really hope it keeps true to what I've experienced here. The allowing of others to try things they haven't, couldn't, or wouldn't be inclined to.

So is the beast of a knife Benchmade a true one knife do it all edc for you, or are you carrying others to test out? Everybody at some point figure out their edc preferences.

Funny you should ask! I'm finding that it depends on the day. Office job I Iike something that disappears in my pocket and is less scary to everyone else around me. At home I like something that is a little beefier but not so big that it scares my wife (phrasing??). But it also needs to have a fun factor or to it as I sit there flipping it around/playing with it as I think or do a task. I'm finding back here helping at the farm I want something that I don't need to worry about at all, does a ton of things, and feels like it won't fail me. Robust if you will!

I'm sure I'm going to find other situations that will call for more and different knives. I think I'm bit by the blade bug...trouble ahead!

This is awesome! And a great example of what this thread is and should. Unfortunately, some have lost sight of this... to me it is nice to have a mix of knives to use but they are tools to me. It is great to see a benchmade like that. It has a story to tell and that story is getting better.

Is there a holy Grail? One knife to rule them all EDC?
It seems different for everyone. For me it changes.
I Liked big folders for awhile but now I like lightweight small folders under 3 ounces and ~3 inch blade. I am like you in that I have a different knife for different activities. Delica walking the dog in gym shorts, manix 2 lw s110v hiking for a bigger more versatile blade and tomorrow I will be sporting the new folder from woodysone woodysone to church! I am no longer able to work but when I did as a financial advisor, I usually carried a small buck or sak. Good luck on your knife journey, that is half the fun as they say.

For me if I had to...a wharncliffe Delica or a GEC 72 wharnie lockback would be really compelling as single sole edc. But that would take out the fun of knives. A Tom Mayo Dr Death would do it for me as well, lol.

I don't know that I have "grails" as much as stuff I would like to try, and that is a pretty amorphous list... I suppose my grails would be getting on the books of specific makers? only because the window of opportunity to get on their books can be tricky to predict. I tend not to go after sought after, long discontinued items,as I feel the market skews well beyond the "actual" value of the item. I don't think that the increase is unfair... the market is what it is and scarcity is a function of value... it is just a value proposition that I am unwilling to justify after a certain inflection point is reached.

Lol, I was told the same thing and three other members expressed interest in the knife I intended to put up. All in all this is a great thread with some great people. But sometimes it seems to blur the line between Pif and trading or I'll swap this for that.

That’s why I’d say, for the purposes of the PIF thread specifically, keeping it all out in the open avoids conspiracy theories.

What Worldwatcher Worldwatcher said. For me, the native 5 is it. The BM sheeps mini-grip and Buck sprint pro are 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The spyderco UKPK is right up there somewhere. Just got a bugout and it seems like it would be pretty high up there on 1st impressions.

I like slipjoints a lot as well but for EDC, one-hand opening is pretty great some times.
