Please help.

Seriously?

In the state of California, just like every state in the US, you can't purchase things your parents don't want you to have until you are 18. You should have had the discussion before buying not after. And yeah, it might suck that your parents are your parents but it is what it is. 3 years and you can do what you want.

Did you read the rules before you joined this forum? This is a family friendly section and the language you are using is not appropriate. Makes me question what other rules you are choosing not to follow....

And as for the advice on how to deceive your parents? Don't listen to it. You will get into more trouble.
Sorry about the language, I normally like to refrain from cursing, but I was just in a bad mood. As for disobeying my parents, I didn't do it on purpose. I just needed a tool and didn't think they'd have a problem with it.

And now you have learned to go about things differently in both matters.

Have them read this thread!

Also, regadding multitools, some of the newer knes have some decent steels on the knife, the leatherman charge tti has an s30v blade iirc.
That seems awesome. What's the price on those? Like amazon? I don't want to pay msrp lol

The tti charge is on the pricey side lol they have cheaper models that are just as good or reliable. The most popular tried and true model is the leatherman wave, which can be found less than $60 if you shop around.

That sounds pretty good. I'm still not much a fan of leathermans for their looks, and from what I've seen they're pretty heavy, but there's no denying that they're useful

A lot of people here don't have much patience for us younger folks. I'm 17 and see it sometimes with other teens.

But I see their point in that you really should have talked to your parents before buying the knife.

In hindsight, I totally agree lol

By the way, what do you guys think of me starting a separate thread specifically to show my parents. My thought process is that maybe they'll listen to you guys, because they just interrupt me when I try to reason with them.

Honestly once your use to it your barely notice it. I got the leatherman pocket clip they sell for my wave and its at all times clipped in my pocket. I don't notice the weight at all. Also it would be perfect for your yard work, for thicker heavier brush you have a saw (it actually works pretty good for it's size, I've used it to saw a 2x4 once at work when I didn't have a real saw handy) a knife, and serrated knife to use.

If you want lighter look into there sidekick or wingman. There not as solid as the wave or higher end models and don't have as many accessories but they're still quality. They usually can be found $20-30 (also these 2 models have spring loaded pliers, which can be useful until your use to working with a multi tool)

Thanks so much man, most people aren't as helpful. Btw, what do you think of the idea I posted earlier?

Np bud, honestly if she's that set on you not having it at the moment, I don't think reading comments from random strangers is going to do much. If your father is more level headed about the situation, I'd first have a sit down with him. Explain to him that you weren't trying to be deceitful buying it, you just needed a tool to help you work more efficiently and safer.

Ask him if he has any concerns and address them for him the best you can. If you can convince him, then he can then start working on your mom. A mom will more likely be convinced by the father then by you or strangers.

I can tell you from experience as I had to convince my wife to allow my 12 yr old stepson to have a knife.

Good point. I think he's just going the path of least resistance lol. He's on my side, but he doesn't really want to deal with her, so he just nods in agreement to her :). Still love him haha. Oh well

Well then take him to one of you jobs, show him the type of work you're doing where a knife is needed. Explain to him your trying to be responsible and work to earn money, and that you'll lose work opportunities by not having means to do the job with out a cutting tool...when referring to the knife don't call it that either especially with your mom. Strictly call it a cutting tool.

Moms tend to be over protective as it is, but yours being anti-gun, anti-weapon will surely make your battle a lil harder. Choose your words wisely, maybe Google up some information for reasons why a cutting tool is important and every day usages for it. Don't include anything that mentions self defense, you want that out of her head.
Put a bunch of information together like you were doing a report for school and one evening when things have calmed down present this information to her, and your father. Maybe if anything the diligence and effort you put into the presentation will get them thinking twice about there stand point

Thanks so much for all of the help. I think I'll try that. It probably won't work, but I've got nothing to lose, so...
