Please make a cf calypso jr or the paramilitary in ZDP-189

It seems to sharpen easily on the sharpmaker.

I believe Kelly said the MSRP was about $110.

Yippy skippy . I'll take one ok maybe 2.

But... if this is the Ferrari of blade steels (as said in Blade mag) I would think that the Military would be the knife to do.

I collect Delicas, but to me putting the steel in a Delica is like putting the Ferrari engine into a Neon. Now a g 10 Delica....

Just my 2 cents.

I agree. I think the Military would be a better choice for this steel. However, if I could have any knife with that blade steel on it I would go for the stainless steel Endura since it is my favorite blade shape and handle shape out of all of Spyderco's line-up.

To my mind, I'd way rather have Sal do exactly what he's doing: give us all the chance to try out this new steel, because it's in a more affordable package. If it works out, then worry about doing a special Military run. I think the lightweight calypso jr. is a perfect test vehicle platform! The Military is already expensive for most people, and a ZDP blade would put it over the top for many, so very few people could try this new steel out.

I really would like a Calypso Jr in this new steel (I just discover it by this thread), even if it's burgundy... (I hate this colour :barf:, but if it's a Calypso Jr with a new unbeatable steel, I want it!).

BTW, is the ZDP-189 corrosion resistant, how does it compare at this point to VG-10, S30V, or others? If it is even tougher than D2 and not as known as S30V (maybe because it's too recent now), there is surely a reason, but what is it?

I can't wait to hear more about this ZDP-189 steel. I thought s30v would stay the King of knife steels for a longer period of time. I wonder if we'll see ZDP-189 quickly replace s30v as the steel for high end folders.

After we pestered Sal into doing that special run of Grey Caly Jr's I felt obligated to grab one early. I went up to the outlet store and payed full retail the first week that they hit the shelves. I almost never pay MSRP for knives. I have a threshold around $70.00 where I feel compelled to go discount hunting. With an MSRP of $110 I'll probably be getting my ZDP-189 version at an on-line discounter. Since this is my third Calypso Jr it gets a little hard to argue the necessity of buying it. I won't argue, I'll just go buy.

I must say that I don't like burgundy...really want to try the ZDP189 but why burgundy or even blue?

Prefer the grey, or, red (like in the red cross red), or, rescue orange...

will still get one, but ....

the colours I like: black, dark and light gray, forest and lime green, dark and light blue
the colour I barely can bear: red (not burgundy)
the coulours I hate: burgundy, pink, orange, yellow

please don't make it burgundy, it appears that I'm not the only one to not like it.

lol :D (I didn't know these wines, I say lol after a quick search on google)
I don't drink alcohol, but my dislike of burgundy colour isn't linked to wine, I think.

why not this new Calypso Jr in G-10? (if it wasn't asked before)

I love burgundy. Business-classy kinda thing!

My guess as to why no g-10: keep the cost low enough for us all to afford. This will already be a relatively expensive calypso jr.

I like burgundy too.

It's a _different_ color then we are used to.

The FRN to keep the price down is a good thing! 110 or so is expensive for a small Caly, coompared to the VG10 version which was 65MSRP. With G10 the new one would probably be more than 150. (Just guessing here). Spydies are worth it at just about any price, but the cheaper they are, the more we can afford. :D

Just seems to me that burgundy as a FRN handle colour is a bit of a test all by itself. No one knows what the market thinks of burgundy FRN (and 1200 units needs a market beyond the 50-100 people on BF that will buy one). Putting burgundy on the ZDP limited run confuses things. If the run fails, did it fail because not enough people like burgundy?

Admittedly, I'm in the anti-burgundy camp.

Sorry if we missed on the color for some of you. We had to make them different colors to be able to distinguish them from the VG-10 version. There are only so many colors that "might" appeal to the largest audience.

I selected the color and the Sales & Marketing managers selected the pantone.

Somthin' 'bout "leasin' all the people all... ;)
