PLEASE POST YOUR TRADITIONAL GERMAN FIXED BLADES & POCKET KNIVES,

I bought this set about 3 years ago, and paid quite a lot for it. Took these pics, (mainly so I knew where everything was supposed to go!), then put it down, still wrapped in the tissue paper I bought it in, and completely forgot about it! o_O Any thoughts/info on the manufacturer or factor would be very welcome

That is a great set, Jack. I paged through Carter's "German Knife and Sword Makers" and could not find that particular stamp.

Dan, those two are gorgeous, I looked very closely at a Simmons Hardware Cattle Knife in Peral a while ago- I bet they are pure quality in the builds- what's your take on these two?

Thanks Duncan. The build quality is quite good on both of them, with the shadow being better by far. However, neither is up to the standards of the multi-blade, with the scissors, that I posted back on page 5.

Great thread, Duncan! It has really taken off. You posted some real beauties, but, I really like the first Lutters equal end jack!
Lot's of great knives posted by all, especially fine showing from Jack Black.
Here is a German made Simmons Hardware. I don't know who made it. Carter's guide to German Knife Makers has no reference to Simmons. My speculation is Kastor & Co.
Charlie, @waynorth, was kind enough to sell me this one.

Dan matey - Oh yeah! This Knife is quite a Knife and it isn't surprising those last two don't meet the standards of this one Dan, Charlie is great isn't he- he did you a favour by letting that one go to you my friend.

Pt. Luso- those Ramblers are great aren't they, the German Buck 110 !

Hornetguy, both neat, but if I was to choose, that Copper head all day long- what a beaut!

Ed, we better not get too much into the conversation with Butterfly knives being non traditional- well to be honest I do think they are under that Umbrella somewhere because they do go back in time and not just a cheap Military Shop type of product that's for sure !

You see some very old ones being displayed at times.
I used to be very good with them in younger years. That looks to be a real nice Knife there my friend!

Like yourself it's not "pattern" I'm familiar with bar the type you mention Campbellclanman.
But perhaps still worthy of this thread as its likely over a century old, is well made and this one at least requires two hands to open.

ed_is_dead ed_is_dead Curious Butterfly and likely old. What struck me is the tang stag RÖNTGEN & SABIN as a patent, Wilhelm Röntgen 1845-1923 is the scientist who harnessed the use of X-Rays, thus revolutionising medicine and surgery, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for this. In Finland, we officially use two languages, the majority Finnish and a significant minority of Swedish speakers- in both languages the word for X-Ray is Röntgen.

The origin of this maker would be worthwhile information if anybody has it. This thread throws up fascinating items.

Thanks, Will

Hi Will
A Roentgen is afik may still be used as a measurement for xray?
As to this maker the tang mark is somewhat worn and the R is actually a B! :)
Here is some info I found when searching, hopefully it's OK to link this site, if not perhaps a mod might please let me know.
