Clip and sheeps foot? Thinner overall footprint? Potential monetary savings that could potentially be used to upgrade scale choice?
What’s not to love about that!?

Can't find one argument in that logic. I'm only here to facilitate (no matter how much I love that burlap :D) the choice. But you make a really great point, especially opening up some budget space for material, increasing rarity at the same time.

I am totally in on the 2 blade clip / sheepsfoot opposing end option.

And even though I don't have any micarta knives and love the look of that burlap, I also kind of agree with some previous posts that since last year was micarta this year should be different. I'd be just fine with elk or horn as well.

I was ready to switch my vote from the 501 to the 301 at the prospect of a buck jack knife, but I just haven’t warmed up to two blade opposing end knives yet. I’m keeping my vote for the 501

If the 301 wins, I think a subsequent poll for two blades vs. three blades would be a good idea. Maybe three blades vs. different combinations of two blades, all in one poll?

For my money the clip/sheepsfoot combination is unbeatable, albeit identical to the 2015 BF knife. But whatever two blades got picked -- assuming that option won out, of course -- a slimmer, lighter, more unique knife is a good thing in my book.

At risk of throwing jet fuel on this discussion, Buck just confirmed with me that you can do a 2 bladed 301 if you so choose, and you can choose from the 3 blade options available for the 2 blades. Not only would this be very unique, but it would DECREASE the cost of the knife.

For those of you unfamiliar, your 3 blade types are:

Spey
Clip
Sheepsfoot

Edit: The 2 blades would be on opposing ends of the knife.
That clinches the deal for me wanting a two blade 301, that seems to be about the most unique pattern we can get from them.

I am going to change to the two blade 301 in clip and sheepfoot. It’s a small knife and I think it should be lite. Bone or horn is going to make the small knife too heavy.

Dadpool Dadpool The ‘15 was a harness jack.

...and I’m wrong it was the ‘16. Time flies...

Ummmmmmm, didn’t we just have a serpentine frame clip and sheepsfoot Forum Knife???

Cough, cough, Canal Street Cutlery....

Umm ... Wasn't the CSC a Barehead ... no bolsters?

Yes but I don’t see the point of using the same blade configuration in a similar sized knife. Just adding bolsters doesn’t make it a different pattern of knife.

Same here. I had a Pakistan-made knife just like it when I was in junior high school. I associate that look with cheapo knives.
Ditto... I won it at the county fair because I was really good at chucking ping pong balls into those big glass Pabst beer chalices LoL :D

Perhaps, but they are still different.
As for "a different pattern" ... how many GEC 14's have been used for the Forum Knife now?

We could of course put that money into a 20CV blade that's engraved if it can't be stamped and stick with micarta ;)

None, just like there hasn’t been a lockback. Just like there hasn’t been a _______ (fill in the gap). I think the point is to have something different each year, not just putting bolsters on a knife that’s already been done, that’s what I was getting at. Pick apart my statement all you’d like and nitpick the finer details if that makes you happy. In the end, my opinion is that a 301 with a clip and sheepsfoot at opposite ends isn’t much different than the CSC Forum Knife.

If it comes down to being the 301, I’d vote stockman since the TJ pattern can’t be done apparently.

They all belong in my pocket JB. lol. Is the top right one in the bottom photo from the custom shop? Is it available anyplace?

Hi Joe,
That was a Buck limited edition knife made a while ago and was a catalog item, only 250 made. It's a Wild Bill Cody design, these show up on the auction sites for sale from time to time.

I've been watching intently both the 2018 Traditional Forum Knife thread and this Polling thread and noticed that skblades skblades has not touched on the "blade options" topic at all for the 301/303 (eg. 2 blades vs. 3 or swapping out the spey for a more popular blade, etc.). I'm guessing it is either not going to be an option from Buck or is going to be a very pricey option to modify the blade setup... any thoughts or insight SK? Might sway people's vote depending on what the possibilities are.
