Though I don't have the vote, I tend to agree that the international members should not be excluded. We'll see how this shakes out. Out of curiosity, do we know exactly how many would be excluded?
I think Denmark and the UK have outlawed locking knives completely. Here in Germany it's a grey area and it could be fine or could result in the knife being taken away (and losing ones "trustworthiness in regards to weapons"(approx.) which is really far worse than a destroyed knife)

Side note, I'll be in Germany in September. Bis bald!

This looks wonderful - I'd definitely be in for something like this setup, irrespective of the handle material (especially with upgrade steel/FFG).

@skblades ~ are there any gaps between the backsprings and liners? I have a 309 in Sambar stag that has a hidden center pin like that and the knife has huge gaps between the liners and backsprings.

I think when they peened the ends,, it spread the springs. On my 309, the center pin is just a little spud that moves within the knife, so there's not any pressure holding the layers together... hopefully that makes sense! I've been meaning to send my 309 in to see if they can correct it because those huge gaps really bug me. Otherwise, that's pretty much a dream knife for me, I like it so much I did my own 303 in the style a while back, and have been thinking about one of those BCCI BG42 301s to do the same thing on... Changing my vote to a 301 :D

This sample has no gaps in it, and I don't believe any of the production would either! I'm going to see about putting up a video or something of me opening the knife, handling it etc.

I can't legally carry a locking blade without good reason where I live and am interested in the 301. I wouldn't want that to sway a majority opinion though. Let the polls decide?

Locking knives and European Porch-mates is a great point.

I have also switched my vote from the 501 to the 301.

At risk of throwing jet fuel on this discussion, Buck just confirmed with me that you can do a 2 bladed 301 if you so choose, and you can choose from the 3 blade options available for the 2 blades. Not only would this be very unique, but it would DECREASE the cost of the knife.

For those of you unfamiliar, your 3 blade types are:

Spey
Clip
Sheepsfoot

Edit: The 2 blades would be on opposing ends of the knife.
BOOM, decision made!
Clip and Sheepfoot for me.

While not my choice, I could get behind a 2 blade 301...as long as it isn't micarta. (I bought the micarta last year, and am still awaiting my opportunity to get it recovered.)

With this news I have cast a vote for the 301. Although my wish would have been for two springs, Clip main and Sheepfoot secondary in the same end. Thus creating a traditional Jack Knife configuration.

I am pretty sure that in Japan you can't have a pocket knife with a blade more than about 2.3 inches long. The 501 is 2.75 inches. Maybe better change all of those 301 votes again to the 303 so that any potential Japanese participants will not be excluded.

The Mayor of London announced a ban on the personal carry of ANY knife, and you cannot order one on the Internet and have it delivered to your home. Does that mean we should scrap the whole thing because Londoners will be excluded no matter what knife we choose?

If a two bladed 301 is what everyone wants, blades on the opposite ends would be the way to go. The way the 301 frame is configured, there is a lot of room at the end of the clip. Going with a two bladed jack would leave tons of extra unused space and I don't think it would be very well received. Anyone that has a 302 knows what I'm talking about...the blade to handle ratio is way off. I personally don't mind all that much, but it's something to consider. It doesn't sound like it's a possibility anyway, just something to think about....

Switched to a 301 to keep as many BF members as possible included. Don't want the lockback getting in the way.

Still want the slimmer two blade option though!

Agreed. I have a 302 and the unused handle space would look out of place without going opposite ends.

Ummmmmmm, didn’t we just have a serpentine frame clip and sheepsfoot Forum Knife???

Cough, cough, Canal Street Cutlery....
Agreed, except one thing to keep in mind is that this knife that you are referencing is one of the more highly sought after forum knives. That being said, I have been keeping an eye out for one for quite some time and I would love to have a shot at something in the ballpark.

I am sure many would agree with this.

You do realize that the subgroup of "people with restricted carry" may be a bit bigger than that of those that can't at all? It wouldn't make sense to not order anything at all because some people couldn't get it, but imo it does absolutely make sense to not exclude those that could get one, by choice.
And since it seems like the option that's favored by this inclusion was already leading the race I see nothing bad in pointing that out.

Judging by the Buck made 300 series knives I've seen, I'm assuming that the two bladed serpentine would be on two springs. No crinking of blades, but possibly not as slim as people may be envisioning it as single spring construction. Is this right, skblades skblades ?

I voted for 301. If the baseline model is less expensive than the lockback, maybe fancier covers would fit in the budget?

Okay, I got some estimate pricing on the knives that I mentioned earlier in this thread. Buck also made a sample of the 501, that I need to get photos of, but it sounds amazing.

Both the 501 and the 301 will have similar pricing at the specs of CPM-154, Burlap Micarta and the nice collectors box I showed in the other thread. We are looking at $80 +/- 5%, and then you'll want to add shipping to that. I am very pleasantly surprised by this pricing! At that price, my costs will be covered, so it's pretty sweet if you ask me! Remember this is tentative pricing, so don't hold me over the coals. But it will be very close to this if these specs were chosen.

This give us some leeway to play with in terms of materials. I don't have the numbers, but more expensive options such as elk, or jigged bone, or snakewood would all be options and possibly still keep the knife under or around $100. I can get more pricing ideas later in the process.
Didn't know Buck did jigged bone tbh

I voted 301. How does one order one when it’s time?
If it is anything like the prior years, it will probably be pre-order. That will also let them know if they need to order more than the minimum 250 knives.
SK Blades will let us know.

I would be OK with a 2-spring version of the 301 that left off the spey layer. That would improve the pocketability of the knife.
