At risk of throwing jet fuel on this discussion, Buck just confirmed with me that you can do a 2 bladed 301 if you so choose, and you can choose from the 3 blade options available for the 2 blades. Not only would this be very unique, but it would DECREASE the cost of the knife.

For those of you unfamiliar, your 3 blade types are:

Spey
Clip
Sheepsfoot

Edit: The 2 blades would be on opposing ends of the knife.

Judging by the Buck made 300 series knives I've seen, I'm assuming that the two bladed serpentine would be on two springs. No crinking of blades, but possibly not as slim as people may be envisioning it as single spring construction. Is this right, skblades skblades ?

I voted for 301. If the baseline model is less expensive than the lockback, maybe fancier covers would fit in the budget?

You are correct. Two blades, two springs, no crinking.

Excellent point @FSUwelder1212:thumbsup: As I stated before, all stainless Stockmans with improved 154 blade steel cannot be obtained from GEC, CASE or Böker Germany or anywhere else as far as I know. Buck lockbacks, and as many have alluded to, cloned Buck lookalikes abound. Rather unremarkable to say the least.

Agreed, except one thing to keep in mind is that this knife that you are referencing is one of the more highly sought after forum knives. That being said, I have been keeping an eye out for one for quite some time and I would love to have a shot at something in the ballpark.

I am sure many would agree with this.

I didn’t know those ones were highly sought after but if it comes to be the same setup again, I won’t buy it because there was a reason I sold my 2 CSC Forum Knives. Oh well!

That CSC was an equal end serpentine shadow, so two opposing blades and a single spring, no bolsters, and on a slighter frame than the stockman serpentine. I think we're talking about a jack, two blades on the same pivot, with a bolster. We're also talking about a serious upgrade in blade steel - those CSC knives had 440C blades.

Buck made a hill (not a mountain) of these for a vendor. Surely they still have the tooling...

Who’s up for a US made Buck Canoe?

What do you think skblades skblades ?
I have a couple of those AG Russell Buck collab canoes. Pricing would probably be way above where we are targeting, and it may be an exclusive pattern to AG Russell, that point would have to be looked into. All that being said, it is a really sweet knife, very thin and rides pretty much un noticed in the pocket. It was released with two different blade steels, one S30V and I believe the other was CPM 154.

I'm partial to a 3 bladed stockman if we can't get a Moose or jack..... I love a spey and the 301 ain't really that wide....

Has there been a 3 spring forum knife?

The Buck that has been proposed is not a Jack, it has the blades on opposite ends.

I do not.know if this has been addressed yet, since I am responding prior to refreshing the page from an earlier viewing.

Not that I am aware of. That being said, without the liners, this wouldn't really carry like a sterotypical three bladed knife. Even you said that the 301 isn't that wide, a few others have mentioned that as well. Many going so far as to say that it carries like a two spring knife due to the thinness.

We have had a few knives that would be comparable in thickness to a triple sprung 301 but thise were two spring knives...

The two spring 301 should carry like a single or 1.5 spring.

Serpentines with the same dimension ends are called equal end just like a cigar, especially if it has two blades (the CSC was called a "Double End Jack").
I figured a cigar would be an equal end as each side mirrors one another, hence being equal. The serpentine would denote the change in the handle shape, similar to a non-tapering dogleg.

Thanks for the info.

Thank you skblades skblades !!

Regarding the potential of a two blade 301 being selected as the 2018 forum knife I think supratentorial supratentorial said it best and I quote, ":thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:" !!!

Two of the most useful blade styles in a thin, lightweight package with excellent stainless steel made by the world reknown and completely competent, Buck Custom Shop... what's not to like? Add in the unique factor, some desert ironwood:cool: and the fact that it would be a knife most all of our forum members could own and use:cool:, makes the decision quite easy for me. Even with the 501 being very tempting, make mine a 301 two blade please and I'll be happy till 2019.;):)
