I'm afraid to ask, but just how much extra do you estimate copper would cost?

Blue burlap micarta (or similar) with copper bolsters/liner would be stunning and unique...although I did get the idea from a 532 (in copper and blue carbon fiber) I saw while researching the pattern.

Thanks for keeping the copper dream alive Sabercat!

No problem! I can't say I like it on just any knife, but paired with the right handle material - it is gorgeous.

I'm all for it even if it adds some $$, if reasonable. But it seemed from prior posts that the cost could be too prohibitive.

At risk of throwing jet fuel on this discussion, Buck just confirmed with me that you can do a 2 bladed 301 if you so choose, and you can choose from the 3 blade options available for the 2 blades. Not only would this be very unique, but it would DECREASE the cost of the knife.

For those of you unfamiliar, your 3 blade types are:

Spey
Clip
Sheepsfoot

Edit: The 2 blades would be on opposing ends of the knife.

Opposite ends.

I'm curious, is there no possibility of having a two-blade 301 with the blades on the same end? I personally like the two-blade idea much more than a three-blade (three-spring) stockman, but I was most intrigued when Charlie suggested it as a Texas Jack configuration.

I like desert ironwood...but it isn't all that on a platform this small (IMO).
hhmoore hhmoore I respect your opinion and consider it valid even if I disagree.
I am of the opinion that desert ironwood can look fantastic, wear well and feel great even on a platform that is smaller then the 301.
Most likely I will purchase a 2018 BF knife regardless what is chosen but when it comes to cover material, wood often gets my vote.
Smaller than a 301 with ironwood covers and I like it!:)

And one last photo to show that the Spey can be "fixed" to sit lower in the frame. Though if the 2 bladed option is chosen, it won't matter.

That'd be perfect after I regrind the tip to a pen blade;). (Although I would still prefer a punch).

I over-generalized... obviously ironwood CAN be exceptional even on small knives; but it often isn't. Liking ironwood, I do appreciate it even when it is less than "showy"; but, at that point, less expensive woods can look just as good.
I sort of feel the same way about snakewood...except less than impressive snakewood can be more disappointing. My concern with both/either would be the lack of consistency... and perhaps more important, the lack of choice.

Another cover option that makes sense to me is Ebony. Ebony is one of the more indestructible covers available which pairs well with a super steel.... just a thought. I also like a fine pattern micarta like paper micarta. Delrin fits the bill too.

If stag is chosen, I definitely prefer Elk polished or not.

I also love jigged bone, how about a peachseed or corn cob?

If we did half the run in Ebony and half the run in Micarta, I think that'd make everyone happy, including me.
