So I guess you are all lobbying for your favorite handle materials now, huh?

OK.

1) Ironwood

2) Snakewood

3) Koa

4) Bocote

5) Pink ivory

6) Purplewood

7) Stag (preferably sambar)

8) Jigged bone (preferably peachseed)

9) Kirinite

10) Ebony

11) Kevlar

12) Cotton Fiber

999) G10

1000) Micarta of any kind.

Thanks again SK for all your assistance, and for showing photos to keep everyone on their toes!

Once Buck is the confirmed maker, and once the 301 is the confirmed pattern, I think you can run multiple thread/polls at once to decide a lot of the factors. A poll for 2 or 3 blades. Another poll for basic handle material type, and then another for blade shape choice.

After that, you can run a new poll for a refined handle material, grind options, with or without presentation box, etc.

It seems like a lot of options to vote on. But there hasn't been this amount of forum input available in quite a long time. I think the porch members are loving it!

Probably last chance for anyone not in either of the 301 or 501 category to update their vote, otherwise it seems the default grouping would be stockman vs LB, which stockman (301) wins at 55.4% right now (even including the fixed blade votes with the lockback).

I'd like to offer a suggestion or two.

Perhaps the next set of polls should be kept shorter, say FIVE days maximum, this speeds up the focus and might reduce the horseracing mentality that sometimes takes root in polls - I want my horse to win, I want to be on the winning side whatever the consequences...

I don't see why votes should be able to be altered, think carefully before you vote and vote for what you really want not changing your mind to stop some other option. This I think can lead to rancour & bickering.

Sometimes it seems like some people may forget this is a real life knife we are trying to put together and not a fantasy knife where I dream all is possible despite engineering, practical or monetary constraints;)

Not too many options on the handles list either otherwise bogging down can start and it encourages people who maybe aren't going to buy a knife anyway to poke their bugle in and promote their pet favourite. Blue Mammoth to hell with the cost etc:D

That said, can Buck get hold of Osage Orange wood? I've been most impressed by GEC's use of it

Shields? uh uh better off without one, Longpull? Of course:thumbsup: OK I've fixed all the details let's do away with these time consuming polls:D:D and if we DO have to have them let's remember Stalin's cynical words " It doesn't matter who votes for what or whom but who counts the votes" :D:D:D:cool:

I over-generalized... obviously ironwood CAN be exceptional even on small knives; but it often isn't. Liking ironwood, I do appreciate it even when it is less than "showy"; but, at that point, less expensive woods can look just as good.
I sort of feel the same way about snakewood...except less than impressive snakewood can be more disappointing. My concern with both/either would be the lack of consistency... and perhaps more important, the lack of choice.
I understand what you're saying and agree; the lack of choice combined with variable materials does at times lead to disappointment. So for a sight unseen purchase a material that varies less than ironwood or snakewood such as ebony or micarta, may be the better choice.

So many options are coming up... looking forward to seeing the next round of voting!

I'd imagine some people only check the forum once a week, so maybe make it 8 days or so.

If I may suggest, never end a round of voting until the winner has more than 50% of the vote. Right now the score is :
301 - 127
not 301 - 190.

Most people do not get what they want this way. Take the top 2 and re-poll and no one can say the majority didn't get what they want.

For what it's worth count me in the Buck 2018, GEC 2019 camp.
Sincere thanks to everyone on all sides doing what they can to keep the spirit alive!

I am all for a run off vote of the top two but I think skblades skblades reasoning is that 303 & 301 total is higher than 501, 503, 112, 110, 532, & 55. He is basically saying more want a traditional slip-joint than a traditional lock-back but I would still prefer the run off vote to as you point settle the matter with least room for argument.

another potential scale material that hasn't come up yet is paperstone: ~P had a knife with blue paperstone scales a few years back and I thought it looked really good.

We are talking about doing the 501 with Burlap and CPM-154 just like the photos I've posted as our own knife offering.
this intrigues me - where is this discussion happening, and has a potential price been declared, yet?

No it hasn't yet. I'm just thinking that the 301 will be the winner, but currently it seems there is a head of steam for another GEC wave to crash over the forum.

As for the 501, I'll wait to see how the vote shakes out and then we'll see about doing it ourselves.

I was under the impression that the likely Buck candidate for a Forum knife would be the 301 since it is the front runner in the voting.
It seems that I missed something along the way?

Can someone fill me in of what I obviously missed?

Ah, it helps to be able to read and actually use that skill! The 501 may be a special run not associated with the Forum knife. I can live with that very easily.
:D

Thank you very much Dadpool for the update!
