301 for me, would love a - a) Buck, b) Stockman c) Multi bladed FFG full sized traditional in modern stainless - as I have nothing which answers any of those three criteria as yet unfortunately. I'm afraid non of the lock back options would work for me, not legal for regular carry here :( .

Incidentally CPM-154 and burlap would be more than fine for me. :)

Why no fixed blades? 113, 102, come to mind.
And the new 101 fixed blade 110.
Maybe it would've been wise to setup a poll where you can select a Number of knives purchased per pattern. That way you could also speak out that if pattern x is chosen you wouldn't buy a knife at all.
If not for budgetary concerns, I would buy two, one for me and one for my nephew/god son. For some reason he seems to treasure the same things I do.
As it is, depending on how the options tally up at the end, I'll be lucky if I can get just one.

I voted for the 301 for the blade selection that the stockman pattern has and the fact that it is one of my favorite patterns to carry(have got one in my pocket as I write this) but will be pleased with whatever the majority wants.. I'm easy with regards to traditional pocket knives.

So, I originally voted for the 112 but it seems that it is not very popular, so I switched to the more popular 501 because if we're going to do a Buck, then I really think that it should be a lock back as that is the main thing I think of whenever I think of Buck. This may be the only forum knife ever produced by Buck, and IMO it would be a shame if it was not a lock back. I am very sorry that apparently it is illegal in some places for folks to carry a lock back, but IMO that is absolutely ridiculous and just not enough of a reason to prevent us from going that way.

I had also originally voted for the 112. Due to the traction the 501 was getting, I switched my vote to that.

Excellent reasoning!!!

Yesssssss! Great choice!

Goooooooo...501!

Looks like we're going to have to run a secondary poll pitting the 301 and 501 head to head. I'm working on getting some estimate pricing for a 301 and 501 with nickel silver bolsters, CPM-154, and the burlap micarta, just to give everyone more fodder and an idea what costs will look like. I'm hoping you will be pleasantly surprised, but I'll wait to hear from Buck before I count my chickens.

Awesome, I was thinking the same on all counts! Thank you for doing that!

Bill NJBillK NJBillK thanks for the heads up on the 113. While it may not make the Forum Knife you can go the Custom Shop route :

Thank you for the heads up, but near $150 for S30V is a little beyond my preferences. I would prefer CPM154 for a bit less, or M390 for slightly more.

Both of those alloys have attributes that I prefer over S30V.

Since you're checking with Buck can we determine if a two blade 301 is feasible?

If the 501 is chosen, would a Sheepsfoot or Lambsfoot blade be an option?

I don't know if the 501 frame is conducive to a full size straight edged blade, be it Sheepsfoot, Lambsfoot, or Wharncliffe.
The Sheepsfoot is the most used blade on my Stockmans.

This poll/thread makes me curious. Which are there more of amongst us, between:

Stockman guys that are OK with a single blade lockback (a BF Buck for this purpose)

Or

Single blade guys that are OK with a multi blade stockman.

I’m quite partial to single blades, even more so lockbacks. That said, I think we should go with whatever pattern the majority of people would be most “OK” with, since there is no way to please us all (hence my thought process above)

According to SK Blades, that will be the next poll. :)

I went with the 501 from the start - I'm a single blade guy. I'd probably be open to whichever single blade gets the nod, just for the sake of participating; but I'm pretty picky about patterns with more than one blade.

Understandable. I was just curious about the “I’d be ok using a ____” type answer.

For example, I’ll use myself.

I will vote 501 because I like the 501 (and would probably buy two). If the 301 was chosen I would still pick one up, but would be purchasing it as a collector instead of a user, and certainly not multiples (I just do not like/use multi blade knives, no matter how many chances I give them).

Maybe there is a 301 guy that feels the same, meaning he’d buy the 501 but wouldn’t use it, but would get multiple 301’s if available (some to use, some to store).

On the other hand, there may be 301 guys that would carry and use the 501. Or 501 guys that would carry and use the 301. “Whichever knife is chosen, I’ll happily carry and use” kind of people.

I hope that little rambling made sense.
