I think the nat/mic/M390 is gonna be a popular choice. I wish I could afford to also grab a 3V black. Maybe later!

I lied. I said I would buy one. I tapped the funds I'm using to save for a nice rifle and bought two (knives). One with CPM 3V and green Micarta scales and one with M390 and the orange stuff. Never had an orange handled knife before. And since I was blowing my rifle savings fund, I went for a sheath also. Mike

Can someone please explain the differences between the 2 steels? What is the purpose of a bow divot? Also, thanks so much for offering the different handles. Awesome

This is copied directy from the specs tab on his SUVIVE! GSO-4.1 pre-order page:

Blade Length: 4.25" (tip to grinding choil)
Blade Height: 1.25"
Blade Thickness: .156"(5/32")
Overall Length: +/- 9"

A bit about the steels:

CPM-3V is a high alloyed tool steel, with a very high impact strength and above average edge holding, on par with D2 tool steel. It is fairly corrosion resistant but can corrode if not properly cared for. Consider this steel for applications where strength and resistance to impact breakage is your primary concern.

Bohler M-390 is a martensitic stainless steel and is Bohler-Uddeholm's premier stainless cutlery steel. This steel is very low maintenance, with terrific stain resistance and superb edge holding. Consider this steel for applications where stain resistance and edge holding are your primary concern.

SURVIVE! proudly supports Peter's Heat Treating for all of our heat treating needs.

As for the bow drill divot, when you are using the bow drill method to make fire, it's used as the socket which holds the spindle that is being pushed in the fireboard that is being spun by the bow.

Can anyone comment on whether the "natural" color is more of an orange tone or a brown tone? Some of the pics make it look pretty orange. (I really like he look of the brown micarta, but it looks like that isn't available this time.)

Was there any further word on lower-ride attachment for the sheath from Kiah?

I hope the natural somewhat matches the coyote brown sheath but I'm sure there are some variances either way just in what source is used for materials, etc. But honestly, mine's going to get so filthy, it hardly matters.

The natural is really pretty tan. If it seems lighter in some photos, they were slightly overexposed. You can also darken them a bit by rubbing them down with mineral oil and wiping them off. Each batch does vary in color a little bit. I get the micarta from the same supplier every time and each batch has been slightly different. Just the nature of the beast. Last I heard from Kiah, he was working on getting the low ride clip perfected. I'll shoot him an email, to see where he is with that.

It will match up pretty well. My personal favorite color combo right now is the natural micarta, with an OD Green sheath. I mostly just feel like you do though, that their sexiest color is "dirt". lol

Ps. The natural micarta handles in this photo were wiped with mineral oil.

Can't decide on steel. My wife is an amazing woman, but she won't by me both for christmas. So which one do I want? If you could only get one, which would it be?

That is a hard call on handle colors. Everything is a good choice...But I'll be sure to place my order soon!

edit:those additional photos sold me on Natural Micarta.

Are there any pictures of the GSO-4.1. Maybe a prototype? Funny we all buy a knife from a visual computer drawing.
The CPM3V is on my way!

From where I am standing, the EDC-4's were the prototypes. If you are looking for some reassurances, there are plenty of great reviews on the EDC-4 now, from various sources and the GSO-4.1 is simply a revision of that model. If I developed my ideas and did a run of GSO-4.1's on my own dime, I would have no incentive to offer a preorder promotion. All of the CNC files are based on the computer drawing, so the final product is always more or less an exact copy, as with all of the other knives I've sold in the past.

Here are some photos of the GSO-5.1, from a Solidworks model, to the final product. I think anyone would agree they are the same knife.

Alright, just throwing this out there for Guy....

Any chance of scale-liners in the future? The GSO-5.1 spine-pic above immediately made me think, "Wow, wouldn't that look great with red liners?" It's not for everyone, but maybe just one more accessory to increase your profit margin and for customers to... er... customize... their knife? Or would the removable handle-scales negate that as an option? Btw, if I haven't already said it, on offering extra scales!

I already ordered 3 GSO-10's with Kiah's sheaths (no, they aren't all for myself, I've attracted 2 colleagues into Guy's work, hope they'll order their own after these), but for the GSO-4.1 I think I'd prefer leather. It seems such an elegant blade, even KiahDex doesn't do it justice in my mind ;). Haven't placed my order yet, still waiting on a paycheck...

I was thinking that too. Any chance a sheathmaker will get one of the 4.1s for a template? Leather would be great!
