Hey Guys and Girls! Well, I hope there are some girls out there. lol Here is sneak peek at the SURVIVE! Necker. I promised to kick it up a notch and I told you I had a lot to share this year. lol

I'll be rolling out the SURVIVE! GSO-3.5 details in about two weeks or less. I'm driving my Solidworks guy crazy. lol I am going to be offering a few neat little upgrades, that I will be debuting with that model.

I am also going to be moving to all domestically produced steels moving forward, so this upcoming batch of GSO-4.1's will probably be the last M-390/Elmax blades you'll see. BUT, having said that, I have some calls in to Latrobe and I believe they'll be able to supply me with domestic equivalents of those powder metals, that are every bit as good. The person I spoke with also mentioned they might be working on some other fun stuff I might be interested in. I'm excited. lol. Nothing against Crucible but I'm really aiming to maintain high performance and S35VN just isn't it, IMHO. I will continue to offer CPM-3V though. That steel is outstanding.

And yes, I do have an outdoors axe in the works. ;) It's going to be epic. A one piece design, with fully contoured micarta handles. A true user.

That necker looks awesome! BUT, any way to build in a bottle cap opener? :D

I tried but being so small, it seemed more dangerous than useful. Just not enough real estate on this little guy and if we're opening beers, you how the dexterity goes downhill after a few. LOL This was designed to be a minimalist chore cutter. It could also provide an advantage in a dark alley encounter if wielded in a clinched fist.

The flat pommel on all of my other models makes an EXCELLENT leverage style bottle opener. Maybe I'll design a bigger brother to this necker, since people are asking about something more "Izula" sized. I can easily incorporate a bottle opener in to that.

Sweet! With enough beers, meh what's a little blood loss

I have already made a full scale cardboard cut out of this little guy.
I would like to see more of a hook for the middle finger so one could get a little more purchase on it.
If you ovalize the hole somehow or put a small flat area on the bottom of the hole it could work as a bottle opener.

Hahaha! My buddy always helps me think "liability". He's talked me out of a few designs for things I think will be "smart", by explaining how someone will get mutilated with them. Like my ultralight hammer face idea. It will mount to a knife against the blade spine, with a small vice jaw providing tension via a thumb screw. The knife ends up being the hammer handle. I'm still making one for me to throw in my personal kit but after talking with him, I realized all the ways that could go wrong. lol I just love tinkering.

The hole is already an oval. With the blade being right there though and knowing how a bottle top just breaks loose most of the time, it just seemed dangerous on my prototype. I also made that big lanyard hole toward the back, specifically for the purpose of gaining more purchase. In reality it can become a full grip knife if you wanted it to be.

All the little add ons begin to defeat what I was trying to accomplish with this little guy. I can come up with a slightly larger variant, with more stuff built into it, that is safer to use for the things you're describing.

I just doubled up the thickness and it is perfect. My cardboard was just too thin and flopping around a bit. You got it going on bro.

It really does become a fist full when you hold it like this.
I'm in for a couple.

Yeah, you have to take in to account the "heft" of it being steel and that I am keeping it a full 5/32" thick for better purchase. You can basically pinch it between your index finger and thumb for cutting and the tail on the back mitigates the leverage when you're cutting.

You might also consider Carpenter Steel's CTS-204P, which is the equivalent to M390 (and USA-made!). Also CTS-XHP might be a nice stainless to try as well.

I've got a call in to the folks over there, thinking exactly the same thing. With luck they'll be able to help me out and give SURVIVE! some viable high quality domestic options for moving forward. I hope they tell me good things when they call back. My only worry is consistent availability but lets keep our fingers crossed. I'm also taking a closer look at CPM-154 , for a stainless option in these larger blades. Pulling any straight data though has been "fun", to say the least. lol

Was a little let down hearing that you would be making the switch from Elmax/M390 to S35VN over on FB, really excited to knowing that you're looking for Elmax/M390 equivalents. But then again the more I read about CPM 3V the more I like about it... decisions decisions:(

CPM-3V is an absolute monster. I LOVE that steel. If it were any more stain resistant, it would be the only steel I would offer. I realize the need for a more weather resistant offering though, so I'm hoping Latrobe/Carpenter can dazzle me. No worries though, I won't compromise the quality of the steel offerings.

Would you ever consider using M4? I think that would be pretty nice, especially in an edc knife.

As the company grows, I'm trying to par my production steel selection down to one premium "carbon" steel and one premium weather resistant stainless grade. The powder metal high alloy tool steel CPM-3V is absolutely bulletproof IMHO, so that will be my carbon offering. I'm just trying to find that domestic powder metal stainless that makes me say "holy shit", similar to what Elmax and M-390 do for me. Me being greedy though in my expectations, I'm also looking for improved toughness. lol

Much like my designs themselves, I want steels that are an excellent balance of all around performance, that are well suited for the knife's intended application. I might entertain a special limited run of a different steel down the road but with so many steels out there, I'm not trying to offer a rainbow of specialized blade materials as standard offerings.

99% of people just get confused. My best example of that is the BG "Ultimate" series. People just see the word ultimate and think THAT is the knife they can rely on. I get probably 10-20 emails a week, asking me how my knives can be so much more expensive, when they got an "Ultimate" survival knife for much less... :barf: Even with the two standard steels I'll be offering, it's an up hill battle, trying to undo so much aggressive marketing brainwashing.
