Can you do something via Ebay? You could try showing him the marksnin the picture on the blade are the same as the ones he told you were a smudge. Doubt it will work though this guy sounds like a real scum bag. He probably doesn't have your money to refund you, it's already in his crack dealer's pocket.

Try wd40 or sharpening oil. It does look like tape residual. And the nlade does look new or like new.

The guy is pretty angry and calling me a liar, even though I've been civil the whole time. I asked him before I bid if those marks were scratches to the blade, so now he's accusing *me* of scratching the blade while cleaning it. <forehead slap> I posted the pictures to eBay. I just have to wait a few days for eBay to get involved; it's fine.

Shit Josh. That sucks.
Try to get your money back brother.
Do not do ANYTHING else to the knife!!
Since you have it in hand, do you like it?? Does it fit your hand well?? Do you like the flipping action??
Think you would buy another after you send it back??
Joe

Hey, Joe.

Of course I am not using this knife for any cutting or carrying; I'm just flipping it open and shut and holding it to evaluate how it feels in the hand, as well as how smooth the action is. You know, I have no baseline to compare it to, since I've never had a flipper. All of my knives have been either from ESEE or Spyderco, so this is a new beast. The handle is a bit small for my palm, causing the end of the handle to dig into my hand a bit. (There are two corners at the base of the handle that I think ZT could have rounded to good effect.)

Assuming I successfully get a refund for this one, I'm debating between this model--the ZT 0562CF--and the ZT 0456. My current knife guru, Nick Shabazz, gave the latter a good review but felt that the knife was needlessly big and thick, making it a sub-optimal slicer (and probably bigger and heavier in the pocket than it needs to be). Then again, I'm more partial to larger knives than Nick is, so the 0456 may be perfect for me.

On a different note, what I'd *love* it to buy a Grimsmo Norseman, but they are only producing them at a trickle right now, through their lottery system.

I'm pretty sure my next knife will be brand spankin' new and purchased from Knifeworks or GP Knives. :-)

IMG_2310.JPG IMG_2311.JPG Maybe this all happened for the best, as long as you get your cash back!! Maybe the knife is not for you.
If you like larger, have you checked out the 452???
Bad ass!!! It's a bit murdery, according to Nick!! But it is amazing!!
I have the CF version. Got it from USAmadeblade here on the forum. You can get it anodized by them for no extra charge also!!
Don't have a pic on my phone of the lock side of my 452. It's bronze and looks great!!
Here's the show side and a pic of the lock side of my 562 that USAmadeblade anodized. Both are 2 years old. The ano holds up very well!!

Hi guys.

Seems like you've all been busy while I took my nap today. :) The knife came. The very first thing I asked the seller--before I bid--was if the blade was scratched, since it showed some discoloration in the photos. He responded that it was not scratched in any way; that it was just tape residue. Well, the first thing I did after taking the knife out of the box was wash the blade in soapy water. The "tape residue" did not come off. I have requested a refund.

Sorry to be a negative nancy here, but hopefully from now on you will stick with reputable knife dealers like those that are on bladeforums. That blade looks used all the way. Hopefully you get the refund quickly and no problems with the seller saying you did the scratching. (edit: I just read where seller is doing this exact thing!)

Lapedog and PurpleDC, thanks for your input. Like I said, I used Coleman fuel, which is a mix of hydrocarbons that Coleman makes for its lanterns. It's not exactly the same hydrocarbon as lighter fuel, but it should do the trick if lighter fluid takes out these stains. Before that, I scrubbed the knife with soapy water and a paper towel. The whole saga has been fishy, so I requested a return, posting pictures of the blade. He claims I damaged the blade while cleaning it and refuses the refund. I expected that, so I'll wait a few days and get eBay involved.

The seller is an idiot then. If its really tape residue as the seller claims then the coleman fuel should have done the trick. Their is absolutely no way naptha or lighter fluid of any kind is going to stain a blade like that. And to be perfectly fair to you no matter what the stuff is its definitely NOT a new knife with that crap on there if it wont come off. I'm confident Ebay will side with you.

I would try same nitro thinner to clean this blade .These are no scratches in any case ................

^ Josh: you don't owe anybody here, any explanations. Just ignore the, "what if's" & "hypotheticals."

FYI: BF's just switched over to a new hosting site. The best feature here: the ignore option. Use this option to your advantage, and it can make people on this forum literally disappear and non existent. It can and will, make your experience here much more positive, and enjoyable.

FWIW: About 4 years ago, I purchased a Spyderco Military Sprint Run, which turned out to be a very good replica/counterfeit, on Ebay. Something didn't look quite right, so I ended up contacting both Spyderco, and the dealer (whom the seller stated he purchased this from). After speaking with them, there were even bigger red flags. It turned out, that this Millie was in fact a fake.

This was back when you could actually see/know whom the other Ebay member's leaving feedback, were. I contacted 3 other Ebay member's, and all 4 of us (2 of which were fellow BF member's), were eventually given full refunds. The seller was banned, and I was allowed to keep the counterfeit Millie. I ended giving this knife, along with another knife, to a BF member (active duty military), who had posted an ad for seeking knife donations for deploying USMC soldier's out of Camp Pendleton. They actually sent me pictures of these knives being put to hard use- which was an awesome reward!

^ You're welcome!

Hey, $77.50 is a lot of money! About 3 or 4 months ago.....

I clicked onto the BF folder's sub-forum, and low and behold there was a freshly listed, Zero Tolerance 0562 M390 Carbon Fiber, with anodized titanium hardware.....

LISTED FOR $75!!!

Guess who the lucky guy was? :D

This place can be a haven for finding really great deals...provided that's what you're here for. :):thumbsup:View attachment 707954 View attachment 707961 View attachment 707963
that looked like a fake as the carbon fiber doest have the same type of weave as all the other real zt 0562cf's. its possible zt switched carbon suppliers but I've not seen them with that type of weave on these models. the fakes actually have a different weave too, so siding more with it actually being legit with a different cf supplier. $75 for the m390 version is unheard of (i don't get why folks raise the prices on these first gens, the 2nd gens are better in every way).

OP - nick shabazz is a great reviewer but please don't lube your knives like he does for the love of god you don't want that much lube. also nano oil is just really expensive mineral oil with snake oil marketing, nicks great but not the most informed.

I have and use Happich Simichrome Polish polishing paste. Put a dab on a soft cloth or even paper towel, apply it across the blade, buff it out by hand. It's always worked on every stain I couldn't get off with soap and water. The stuff is amazing.

I was holding the 0562CF again and realized it may not be the sharp end of the handle that's digging into my palm; it appears that it's the pocket clip. I didn't plan on EDCing this blade (because I don't have a need to just cut things when I'm out and about), so if I purchase this ZT model (after hopefully getting a refund on the one that I have), I might take off the pocket clip. But I'm kind of leaning to the 0452 or 0450. I EDC a Spyderco Civilian; it's just there for defense, so it stays in my pocket and doesn't get used cutting things.

Looks like a real 562cf from that pic. Maybe post the other side of the blade and serial number?

The edge looks factory. That smudge is probably dried lube; prolly wipe right off with rubbing alcohol or tequila.

As Roc suggested, I'd try something like Flitz or Semichrome polish if you care enough, but personally I'd be too ticked at the seller at this point. Sounds like they've been deceptive from the get-go. I have a "don't pay for 14 day" thing on PayPal which can help circumvent similar issues. Sorry to hear this. There are different style clips you can get for the ZT, so I'm sure you'd find something to your liking.

I'm pretty new to knives and completely new to ZT. I had no idea you could get different clips for them. Where do you suggest picking one up from online? And how do you find them? Search "ZT clip"?

Joe, thanks for your responses. No one here flamed me, but it's a bit annoying to have people ask you to justify yourself when you've already done that several times, each at moderate length. And some people may be trying to be helpful but end up saying things that are, in my opinion, a bit puzzling, like Lapedog, who says that even if there were 50 owners who sharpened the knife, as long as they were all responsible owners, it's not a big deal. But it *is* a big deal! I wanted a knife that was next to new, and that's what the seller represented it as. 50 owners is not next to new! And then there are the people that ask me why I didn't investigate before I bid, and I try to explain multiple times that things came to light only after the fact. Oftentimes, that's exactly how life works; you find out information after you need it. So, I get a fair number of comments/questions like that that don't make a lot of sense to me, but at the same time, I don't feel like getting into Internet wars with people over this; it takes about 5 minutes for these things to escalate where one person is ready to shoot the other one in the face over some silly crap. I explained myself pretty thoroughly; if people don't get it, what can I do.

Nice knife you got there for $75!

Being new to BladeForums, I'm curious to hear your methodology for finding out if a seller is legit or not. I assume it has something to do with searching for their name in the Fame/Shame section(s).
IMO, at the end of the day, you're spending YOUR money, and how choose to spend it and whether you decide to worry over said purchase(s) is your prerogative. That being said, it sounded like Joe only wanted to give you some advice for your next second hand purchase. And since it's only advice, it's also yours to do with it what you wish! Welcome to blade forums and I hope you enjoy your ZT!

Since you already purchased the knife, try not to worry too much about it. It sounds to me like the knife is legit, but the story behind it isn't.
