The seller is at fault; I don't know what you guys have against me. Might want to think twice before saying douchey things like that--even if you are hiding behind your computers instead of saying them in real life. I'll stop here so you can enjoy the Mountain Dew and Pop Tarts your moms brought down to your basements.

Josh, don'the get your panties in a bunch,,, while I agree that the seller is clearly wrong, you started to complain before you even got the knife... absolutely you should have bougot from a brick and mortar store, sure it might have cost you a bit more, but typically they would exchange the product if you were not satisfied. Consider it cheap insurance, plus you will not be subject from of the ver few shady people out there... 90% of the people are good but the 10% of the random jacks will make your life misable...I have had great luck with Amazon, as the return policy is great, but if possible I think it's better to buy from the big resellers. OK that said, I am enjoying the pop tarts......

I thought about it 2x, heck maybe even 3x, munching on my pop tarts (Frosted strawberry, my fav). I still hold my comment, but I promise we are far from hiding.
If you want new knife with warrantee, you have to pay retail from a trusted retailer. That little stain on the blade can be fixed in less then a min. If you cannot tell a difference between scratch/tape residue/or patina.. you are definitely not the guy to sell a knife to.
Sips on Mt. dew his mom brought down. Burp!

At this point, I've said almost everything I can think of that's relevant to this discussion, so I'll wrap up my contribution and then that'll be my peace on the matter. (You guys can continue criticizing and/or talking about Pop Tarts, afterwards.) Consider this my version of Jerry Springer final thoughts:
  1. Yes, I saw red flags after placing the bid but before receiving the knife, one of which was the claim as to the provenance of the knife, based on the discrepancy between the seller and ZT customer support. I think that is enough to start worrying about things, even before the knife is in hand. You're free to disagree; obviously you do.
  2. When the knife came, I immediately tried to clean off the "tape reside" using these three methods, in the order listed, and the "tape reside" remained:
    1. Soapy water and a paper towel
    2. Coleman fuel (which is similar to lighter fluid)
    3. Rubbing alcohol
That is some effing tenacious tape residue.

I'm done contributing to this discussion.

Josh,

At the end of the day I am sure ZT will fix it for you at no charge minus the shipping to them,, just a major inconvenience for sure but most likely the fastest way to get resolution...as it appears the seller is unreasonable, and the dispute process thru ebay takes time...

Good luck

Hey, people. I said I was done with this conversation, but I changed my mind so I could tell you all how it ended. No surprise, eBay sided with me and refunded my money. I sent the knife back to the seller using the label that eBay generated, but the seller e-mailed to tell me that the knife was sent to the wrong address and that he wasn't going to refund my money until he got his knife back. Well, first of all, that didn't matter, because eBay/Paypal refunded my money, not him. Second, whose fault is it that the address was wrong? Clearly his, because eBay doesn't set up your address in the system; the user sets up their own address. The seller again e-mailed me to ask if the knife had been returned to me. I told him it had not (because it had not). A week later, though, it showed up on my doorstep. The seller had been pretty nasty about the whole thing, while I had been reasonable, so I'm keeping the knife. Eff him. As for the marks on the blade, I spent a while buffing each side of the blade with a light grit belt, using my Ken Onion Worksharp. It's not perfect, but it's better; I didn't want to be really aggressive and wind up grinding off too much steel. At some point I'll send a few pictures to ZT to verify that the knife is authentic, though when they took a look at the pictures on the eBay listing, they said it appeared to be so.

I would consider yourself lucky if you took a belt grinder to the blade and still managed to get a refund. Quite impressed actually. AND YOU KEPT THE KNIFE?????? WTF..
Now the seller and buyer both screwed each other.. Well you screwed him to be exact. You just stole from the seller, regardless how nasty he was.
This type of drama I would have kept to one's shallow self. WOW..

Quoted for posterity.

And better yet, once you start monkeying with the knife (washing/polishing) it is yours. That is the deal around here. You now owe the seller his money back. How would paypal feel knowing you got the money and the item? That is just not right.

Agreed. Whatever greivances he may have had with the seller, when he kept the knife after it showed up on his doorstep AFTER receiving a refund (unless I misunderstood something), IMO, it reflects poorly on him and in my eyes, he's not a whole lot better than the seller that he's be profusely complaining about.

Welcome to BF's, Josh!

The good news is, that you purchased this ZT on Ebay; so you're covered under their "buyer's protection policy."

I closely examined the pictures that were posted in the sale. The ZT in question, appears to authentic.

Good luck!

Seal of approval.
