Post Odd Hobbies Here

I was driving to work today with the normal random thoughts wandering through my head ...

As is probably the case with most Busse freaks and knife people in general, a lot of people find our 'hobby' odd or at least don't understand it to some degree. I came up with a hypothesis that as Busse collectors and/or users, the majority of us probably have other hobbies that are equally misunderstood by others.

Post your other obscure hobby here! We wanna know... (And I mean, odd). Hunting, shooting, fishing, 4 wheeling, mountain biking and other random 'guy' (and sometimes gal) stuff don't count. Neither do any of the 'standard' hobbies like coin or stamp collecting or woodworking for example.

Here's one of mine that NOBODY understands: I collect memorabilia (posters, T-shirts, promo ads, lp's, anything) of Mexican Rock band Mana. My girlfriend (and most others) think I'm nuts. Funny thing is I was a Metallica concert once and got thumbs up from several people when they noticed my Mana T-shirt :D Even surprised me...

Let's hear 'em! I know that by nature you knife freaks have 'em!!!

All knife buffs (not just Busse) are encouraged to respond!

I collect knives. HA! LOL

LOL I collect s***... Autographed 8x10's, movie posters & other autographed items, custom knives- Mainly folders, BUSSE is my latest obsess... errr hobby. The problem with me is I always buy with the intent to sell later for a profit, AND NEVER DO. LOL I sure hope this ain't all trash! I do have a Honeymooners (signed by all 4 main cast members) 8x10 that I know is worth something tasty, but it is one that I may NEVER sell. Now... I seem to be collecting houses, at least until I sell one! I just finished having a 110 year old church/school/FOP bar/Italian-American club/rental property POS (a 'real' crackhouse lookin' POS) turned into a sweet residence. I am about ready to start 1 or 2 small internet businesses and run them all out of this place as well. It's claim to fame? A small one, but the Rev. Billy Sunday used to preach there when here in Philly waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day. (He's the preacher that Frank Sinatra sang about not being able to "shut that city down", meaning Chicago.)
Here's 7 pix. 3 before, 3 most current ( I need to shoot a new set) & one of my view. I'm kinda proud of this house renovation, it's been about 3 years since I bought it. Needless to say, the neighborhood loves me for totally fixing up this trashy property. The structure is still very sound, but EVERYTHING in it had to be ripped out! Total gut, and everything is new. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, everything.

It is just about done, I just received the Certificate of Occupancy from the Township, and am waiting for a bit of a warm-up to start moving my stuff... and upstairs still needs carpet, but otherwise done FINALLY!!! Not the oddest hobbies, but still... Meantime, with no wife or kids, I do enjoy the extra disposible income, LOL. ...Oh yeah, I collect cats. I have 4, but for now that's about ALL I can handle!!! LOL

I enjoy tazering people... or using the shock shield. But my favorite hobby is throwing a sting grenade into a room and watching ppl scatter. :D Yes I'm a evil Bastard :D

Forgot to mention that I also tend to carry a training bottle of pepper spray... just soap and watter... I randomly spray trainees and coworkers just to have them freak out :D:eek:

Jay, maybe you could bring one of the sting grenades to Blade to clear out the piglets at the trough when Jerry brings out the custom blades?

Hmmm, funny you should say that. I enjoy getting tasered. Never tried a sting grenade. Could be fun.

Well are you sure you want to know?

Many of you already know about the bicycle obsession. But what you know is the tip of the iceberg, belive it or not, I have shown mercy in telling you about bike racing:o.

There are the eight or nine bikes I own but then there is the actual bike racing obsession…. just the love of the sport. I manage a racing club, personally sponsor riders, promote one or two races a year and also have an extensive collection of recordings of European races.
I have (on tape or DVD) every Tour de France since 1985, most World Cup Races (like Paris-Robaix) from about 1997 forward, and since my friend went to the World Cyclo Cross Championships in 2003 I started collecting those races too.

Then I am even more obsessed with the science of training and fitness and performance testing. When I start training myself –like if work would slow down- I’ll train about 14-16 hours a week. That would include restful active training like easy swimming or light weight training.

Also at 53 I started longboard skate boarding.... again:o.

Oh almost forgot the HO Trains.... but I have been selling them off.

The Jaxx House of Crack looks like a mighty fine place to cool one's heels! That crib is pimpin', yo!

I see Guyon here....

How about that collection of Rock Star leather pants he has?

A lot of people think fishing out of a kayak is a pretty strange hobby, but more and more folks are getting into this style of fishing. Heck, even Hank Parker has a signature kayak on the market nowadays. I got into kayak fishing pretty seriously last year. Had a lot of fun rigging out a kayak and fishing with it. This year, I'm going after some of the stripers in the area and may even haul the yak down to Atlanta to fish with some of the guys in the Atlanta Kayak Fishing club.

Here's a collected list of kayak fishing links if you're interested in reading more: http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/ri_links.asp

And here are some pics of the rigged yak:

The fishfinder runs off of 10 AA rechargeable batteries for which I built a couple of power packs out of PVC pipe. The packs ride on a shelf I fabricated inside the hull.

Since the pictures above, I've also rigged an anchor trolley system so that I can anchor off either the bow or the stern with a simply pulley set-up.

And I've built things like an insulated, aerated tank for keeping live bait in the yak.

My leather pants collection (aside from the one pair that surfaced) shall remain hidden until I'm able to collect each variant from 1974 to the present.

Strippers are crazy about kayaks. First day out with my rig, I was approached by no less that three boatloads of female strippers who gave me a day to remember.

It's running from the damnable male strippers on the lake that makes the sport so exhausting. I suspect those bastards are really after my leather pants collection.

Oh yeah, I also built a kayak cart out of PVC so that I can get the yak to and from the water by myself. I've since changed out the wheels to plastic. (See top pic.)

I always thought the flag stone goes on the outside:confused: :o

Heh-heh, well... I'm different!! Plenty out there too. LOL There is a sweeeeet hot tub in part of the new addition, too. :D Oh, this house is a rockin', alright. The Church of ROCK. :D

Jaxx, that is a great looking remodel, top to bottom.

One question: Why did you cover up the strippers' pole with rope? Don't the strippers get a little chafed?

I make antizombie armour and weapons. I have a decent setup with a ICON Merc
synthetic motorcycle jacket that I have taken the ABS armour and reinforced it with kevlar. Canadian military boots resoled with vibrams. Fullfacemotorcycle helmet with bluetooth. US milsurp kneepads.MEC backpack with poor mans Jack Bauer kit and cheness katana. I have 2 canadian milsurp 82 pattern packs made into saddlebags for my Honda 919 motorbike along with matching mag pouches
on either side of my headlight and gasmask bags as tail and tankbags.

Future additions will include a fuel map for the bikes EFI computer so it will run on everclear from my still. A swamprat M6 for times when the SS4 is not enough EDC and a dogfather for clearing buildings of zombies and it is to cramped to swing a katana.

In case you havent already guessed I also collect comic books.

Guyon, that yak is pretty cool. I admit I had never thought of fishing from one. The wife and I tried kayaks for the first time a few years back up on Door Co., WI. I got hooked. I get out on one every chance I get, not that often maybe once a year. We have discussed getting one in the future and running down the river that is a a few dozen yards from the house, but nothing yet.

I am trying to think of what odd hobby I might have and I don't really think I have one. I used to collect Batman stuff, no laughing ya bastids. I still have a good sized comic book collection. That isn't odd though, or is it? I collect sirty diapers an awful lot these days, I don't keep them very long but I have a good pile of them around at any given time. :D

OK so after reading Unsub's post, maybe comic book collecting is a gateway to weird. :D

Oh yeah Jaxx, I dig the house man. I see an old place like that and I think bulldozer, I guess all that work that it takes to pull off something like that is just overwhelming to my little brain.
