Post Odd Hobbies Here

I wish the one fellow had gone in the drink. He was doing a pretty crappy job and deserved to get wet.

You could always borrow Skunk's .50 and reach out and touch someone from shore. :D

Yea around here you wouldn't want your legs in the water next to a fish that might be hooked deep and bleeding. That would be pretty dumb.

And don't get me wrong on the taking of fish... I take some but that clip was pretty bad.

Looks like a blast though. My girlfriend wants to drag me to Mexico later this month something like that could really salvage the week:thumbup: ... possibly more than a working stripper poll.:p

I collect (and smoke) vintage pipe tobacco, and also have a pipe tobacco cellar that I am busy filling with premium brand pipe tobaccos so that when tobacco is banned one day I should have a pretty good selection of aged stuff. I also collect various carnivorous plants.

Hmmm... paddling. Nope, not with little leather paddles (don't get your hopes up, Morimotom) but paddling kayaks. Two small children really slowed down this hobby but I used to paddle a lot. For about ten years I lived in East Tennessee and there were hundreds of whitewater runs within 2-3 hours drive in addition to the dam released Ocoee Olympic course. I taught whitewater kayaking in the summer on weekends and even met my wife that way. She was my student back in '94. I would average about 60 (8-hour) days on the river each year. I typically didn't paddle below 23-25 F but most of the great wilderness runs didn't pick up until the temp dropped below 35F.

I did compete some but that stopped over ten years ago. (I managed 2nd in Southeast on the Nantahala and 4th in a National Open Class Whitewater Sprint Race on the Ocoee Olympic Course in '96.)

These days my paddling is virtually all quietwater. My "big rig" is a 17' sea kayak that I could easily travel out of for weeks. My last trip was solo island hopping around the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.

I do enjoy surfing too!

Otherwise, I'm a gear nut. It doesn't stop at just Busse knives. ;)

I'm not sure that paddling is that odd of a hobby except if you include my urge to do the flatwater/open water stuff solo. I have to be a bit more conservative solo than if I was with a group (open water crossings of <5miles as opposed to 10-15 miles crossings) but I enjoy those rare bits of solitude now and then.

(Jaxx - I LOVE that place you fixed up. kudos!)

Cool

Do you store pipe tobacco the same way one would store cigars? i.e. humedor, etc.??

Yeah, yeah... I collect 'pipe tobacco', too, right I forgot to say that... cause I wuz smokin' some! ;) LOL :D :D

Jaxx, that is a great looking remodel, top to bottom.

One question: Why did you cover up the strippers' pole with rope? Don't the strippers get a little chafed?

Ya know, my contractors had a GREAT time with this one! It IS a stripper pole AKA a foot bar... :) They wanted me to leave it as is, and I wuz tempted!! It is, however, a 2-piece removable cat 'tree' that goes up past the 2nd floor for my black cat, she loves to climb up trees, and won't have the outside time that they are used to out here at my other house. It can be disassembled for moving, parties, whatever, should it get in the way. I'll have to tie some cat toy thing around the middle to hide the gap. :D I think that they will dig it, and happy cats stay out of my ****. LOL

I knew it! I can spot a stripper pole a mile away. Maybe I should start collecting stripper poles. :D

Tony G, I have no idea where you'd go in Mexico, but I just read a post somewhere about an outfit that does kayak excursions out of some Mexican coastal town. I'll see if I can put my finger on it.

cstorr2004,

Pipe tobacco is cellared differently than cigars. The best way to celler it is to buy it in 2 ounce or 50 gram tins (most tins are vacum sealed) and then keep it in a cool (not cold) room. If you buy the tobacco in bulk (bulk tobacco doesn't come in tins) or if you open a tin and don't finish it or think it needs some more age on it the best way is to seal it in mason jars and seal the jar tops in canning wax. Both methods will keep the tobacco intact for several years if not generations.:)

You should! This one is a Delilah's Special. Very rare! :D A true CAT pole. :D

Jaxx,

Good luck in the new home.

I know that some night you’ll open up the front door a big smile will come to you face when you see that poll with pussy climbing all over it.

I atually have dreams like that some times:eek: .

:D  How about... Strippers DRESSED or rather undressed, like CATS! :D LOL

Weird? Naaahh....Different? Yeah. Besides knives and firearms I collect license plates and old real estate company signs. I also enjoy getting on the atv for a days ride. I can leave my driveway and in 2-3 minutes I'm on a trail heading into the woods for the day!

Jaxx....awesome job on the house! I am into old architecture and really appreciate it when someone restores/remodels rather than do a tear down. Those old buildings have class. Something a lot of new construction doesn't even come close to having! Well done!!!

Well besides collecting guns and knives, hunting and fishing, I also breed and raise snakes.
