Price increases blown out of proportion?

For those looking for the Shaman at the old 2017 prices search for it and you'll find dealers who have yet to update their pricing. However, I'm sure it won't last long.

A good rule to live by is if you see something you like to get it. Otherwise it can sell out, and not be reissued, or go up in price.

Waiting it out isn't always the best call for anything.

Sometimes you have no option but to wait. Although I love knives and spydecos at that I have other bigger priorities :(.

Costs of goods and services go up, I get it. It's just a bummer, because so do utilities, groceries, interest rates, etc. Only so much discretionary funds to go around. It just means I have to be more selective.

I wonder if it is a smart move to price the shamen so close to many beefy ZT's.

I guess time will tell.

Oh for sure.

Example; I want a One Eyed Jack. I'm gonna use my good guessing skills to estimate they didn't make a lot of them. They're in stock at the local store and I could have one for the weekend. But I'm going to wait as I really don't need is as much as I want it. As I like to say the more you want the unhappier you will be. So maybe they'll all sell and I'll miss out before the price drops. But that's my call.

And as I've posted this I peeked at the store and see they've loaded up all the 2018s and that Stretch in V=TOKU2 is right up front and center and costing a lot less. Then right next to is is the Respect and that's a lot more. I'll have to manage my expectations and decide what's a priority and for all I know when they come into stock it could be none. If that happens though it won't ever be the fault of the knife prices.

There's always going to be more nice knives coming.

I wish spyderco would fix their store searching tool. The only stores I know that carry spydercos around me are cabelas and their selection/pricing sucks.

Prices do go up and I understand that. I think the biggest thing is that this has priced some of the knives into where the value is questioned when compared to the competition. I will still purchase some spyderco knives just will be a lot more judicious with what ones I buy.

Curious which knife value is in question compare too competition. I am genuinely curious; not starting anything.

I am a big fan of the Golden line. If you compare other US made knives (BM, ZT, and Kershaw), there really is no model I would consider a better priced competitor to the PM2, Military, Manix 2, Para 3, or Native 5.

I do like all these brands, and have a knife from each. But both ZT and BM are more $$, and there is really nothing in Kershaw that I would consider as a replacement for couple of my favorites, PM2 and Military.

I do agree that Spyderco does have good value still but for instance I think the big one was the new Shaman that experienced a crazy jump and the further the prices creep up the less the difference between the competition. I do still believe the para 2 and para 3 and manix 2 are good values but the native is now the same price exactly as a mini grip. The griptilian is 102 now and the manix 2 with BD1 is 91 and g10 with s30v is 110. I still think spyderco has value and is still by far my favorite knife brand and I will buy spyderco. There is also some ZT knifes that creep into the para 2 price range now. I also think that it might cause people to look more at the china brands such as WE and others that have popped up. Again just my thoughts.

$180 for a regular military is not a good value . Maybe new comers to the game will buy spyderco knives at this price but what I see most veterans are going to wait for sprint runs and exclusive .

I gotta agree. It’s terrible/nonexistant. I have no idea who the authorized Spyderco dealers in Canada are and never have.

I think you got your wish, it's offline right now.

If you search in the GBU you should see some threads on a great spot to buy Spyderco in Canada. Due to the forum rules that's the only subsection that non supporting dealers can be discussed.

Thanks for the tip. Threads in GBU mostly point to the two retailers I currently use. Unfortunately they are both 3000 miles away. In my area there is one B&M but it is pricy.

Spyderco Military with S30V/G-10 liner lock overpriced now at $191.72!

MSRP went up from $267.95 to $294.95 and of course the MAP change. In effect, the street price went up from $160.77 to $191.72 or an increase of $30.95 (19.25%).

Wow, that's a huge increase, especially since the new lower corporate income tax rates are going into effect. Ok, crossing the Military off my list now.

It is the satin s30v blade and black g10 millie price. Interestingly, millies with a DLC blade are cheaper. The s110v blurple remains $174. I thought the DLC version is always more expensive. BTW all these are bladehq prices.

LOL proves my Point . Spyderco is going to have a hard time selling Military at this price that unless they sell the sprints run for $300 . Why will I pay $190 for a regular s30v Military or $185 Shaman when the sprint runs are going to to be $20 to $30 more . Believe me military don't sell as well as PM2 knifeworks still have their sprint military in stock and the reason Blade HQ sold out they had a great Christmas incentive to buy it they gave away a $40 Spyderco and the m4 was on sale for $170 . Like I said people that buy them at this price are new comers .
