Primble & Friends March Madness Knife GAW - Winners Announced !!!

Very good post Ron - rules followed precisely. I like your pick too. ;);):):)

I would like to enter if I'm welcome. My favorite picture of knives is this shot of my early collecting. I've never owned a Schatt and the sheepsfoot is one of the most useful of blades. It helps when the knife is stunning too. Sorry, but I don't follow Basketball.

You are more than welcome to enter Steve and thank you for doing so. Neat pic of the "early days" too.:)

1. Definitely my favorite
2. I've spent a lot of time camping near titusville and have a GEC knife (3) but not any queen made :( I need to remedy that.
3. IF Kentucky doesn't win the championship its probably because they cancel the game. Wisconsin, I think, is a team that may have a chance of winning it all.

Primble,
your giveaway threads always have something special ;) this is not an entry but I'll play anyway :D
I was completely out of track about horses and the Kentucky Derby, but it seems I follow basketball (meaning NBA and NCAA) more than many US members. :p
Actually, basketball is one of my favourite sports and I played my share until I entered university, although I only played it with friends and at school (I pursued my "career" in sports in volleyball until my job took over), and I still watch it on tv when I can (be it the Italian league, the Euro league or US basketball). So here's my pick for the final four:
- Kentucky
- Arizona
- Michigan State
- Gonzaga.
My sports memory tells me that the team entering a final series unbeated usually does not win...so I say the Spartans will defeat you 70-63.
As for knives...this is my favourite slipjoint:

That's what I'm talking about Fausto! :D

Fausto - that knife might very well win a design contest - it is surely a beauty !!!:thumbup::thumbup:;)

Thank you for the entry.:)

That's what I'm talking about Fausto! :D

I still like the chances of 36-0 and I think the press might result in - well ......... sorry to say ........ over the top slam dunks!!!

The press and rough you up play has already been attempted, many times. ;):D

Final Four:
Kentucky
Wisconsin
Oklahoma
Gonzaga

Championship game final score: Gonzaga 77 - Kentucky 73

I like the giveaway knives because: I am a knife junkie!

Any of these knives could (and should) win a knife design competition.

Actually, my post was not an entry, but thinking about it, I could get a chance for the Kentucky Shiner S&M :)
As for the Spartans, since I watched them win the NCAA finals (was it 2000? 2001?) they're among my favourite teams :)

Fausto

IThe rules:

1. Post your favorite picture of any knife that you own or have owned.

2. State what you like about the GAW knife or why you want it - do you collect S&M, collect sheep foot knives, etc.?

3. Tell me which team WILL trounce (and by how many points) my beloved "Kentucky Wildcats" basketball team in the upcoming NCAA March Madness event.:D

4. Open to all members who post regularly in traditionals or can be a new member to Blade Forums Traditionals.

5. The winners will be picked during the week of the "Final Four". I am currently thinking about it and will get the method of choosing winners straightened out and clearly listed A.S.A.P.

6. Last, but not least - you cannot be a Christian Laettner fan !!!!!!!! :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy::D

7. You do not have to know anything about basketball to win a knife - just state in your post that you do not follow basketball. ;)

1. This is my favorite knife, given to me for Father's Day a couple of years ago.

2. GEC makes excellent knives, but I've always had a fondness for Queens. My first truly excellent slipjoint was a Queen (technically Schatt & Morgan). Queen knives just have that old-timey look.

3. There is only one team that has a chance to beat this year's Kentucky squad. Who better to put an end to their winning streak than the greatest team ever in college basketball history? The school that measures success not by Sweet 16, Elite Eight or Final Four appearances but by national championships won. The team with eleven  (yes I said eleven) championship banners hanging from Pauley Pavilion's rafters. UCLA by 6.

4. Check.

5. Looking forward to it.

6. Who is the one person who had no business being on The Dream Team?

7. I enjoy college basketball. Don't pay much attention to the professional ranks.

The rules:It is a TOUGH road to get to the Final Four and even TOUGHER to win the NCAA Championship, so this will be TOUGH, but, not as tough as it is for the teams to win the Championship trophy. The TC Barlow is your trophy and is yours if you get it all right. I have to admit that I feel pretty safe that none of you are that good "at your game" ! ;):D

The trophy - a like new, never used, walnut handled single spear TC Barlow in it's proper tube.

The RULES:

1. Starts today and runs until this coming Thursday at noon, or when the sweet sixteen begins. You can edit your post until noon on March 26th, 2015. :grumpy:

2. Allowed to enter: Anyone with at least thirty posts in Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades Forum. Donaters in this thread are eligible and encouraged to bring your best game, as well. ;):D

3. Name a traditional knife that you think could be considered worthy enough to win a knife design competition. Post a picture, if possible.

4. The challenge - you must choose correctly the teams that will make it to the Final Four and you must predict the Championship game teams and final score correctly.

Example:

Final Four:
Kentucky
North Carolina State
Gonzaga
Arizona

Championship game final score - Kentucky 82 - Gonzaga 74 :eek::eek::D:D

5. Must show good sportsmanship and let's try to keep in mind that all competing teams, from all areas of our nation, deserve our respect. ;):)

I think this puukko by Joonas Kallioniemi would win a design competition.

Check out the recessed washer.

Here's my Final Four:

Kentucky
Arizona
Michigan State
UCLA

UK v. UCLA for the championship in a battle of blue bloods. Final score Kentucky 67 - UCLA 73. UCLA makes it an even dozen for the trophy case.

Revenge is so sweet.

:p

Great post Christian and beautiful knives. Good luck ! Thanks for the entry.:D:D:D

First off let me say how amazing the people around here are! I'm amazed at the sheer generosity and the constant desire to share the love of these and other fine made goods with each other. One day I hope to repay even the gesture.

1. I don't take great photographs but I liked how this guy turned out and have it ready.

2. That's the type of knife I've been trying to find as vintage. I've been pretty focused on sheepsfoot blades since I casually took up whittling and have been on the (endless) search for a good knife to use for such and eventually pass don to my little boy when he's older. I really don't want it to be a Rough Rider but don't have the cash for S&M or GEC. Also that knife looks gorgeous.

3. I know nothing about NCAA but I think the Spartans are going all the way.

4. I think I'm half way in between on this one. The traditional bug didn't really bite me until 2013ish.

Thanks again to everyone (and some of those pictures are sickeningly good, wow).

Well, how could I not enter this? My favorite photo of a knife I own is this one of my Ohta wharnciffe; it just looks right. I could use the English Jack to keep my Irish Jacks in line. I have no idea who's playing in the basketball tournament; to me this is AA or AAA baseball season. Is Oregon playing? Not to sure what religious splinter group that Christian thing is either, and not interested enough to Google it.

Final Four predictions, along with the required knife content that complies with the possible TC Barlow GAW entries, closes tomorrow at noon, for anyone interested. ;):)

Some very generous folk here :) Not an entry, but good luck to everyone

Always wanted a S&M knife, WVU. I am looking forward to having one of my own trad give away if I ever win one of these GAW's. Thanks!

OK, I'd better throw my hat into the ring for that TC. Wisconsin, Kentucky, Michigan State, Gonzaga. Due to a technical foul called on Primble , with 0.3 seconds remaining, Wisconsin makes 2 free throws, and eeks past highly talented Kentucky 73-71, thus avenging the pain of last years final four loss by 1 point. Wisconsin goes on to beat Michigan State in the championship, whilst Primble re-oils his knives, thus preventing rust damage (from the salty tears :(). Primble watches an old tape of Adolph Rupp leading the 'Cats to a championship in his trusty VCR. A shaky, but recovered and "already looking forward to next year" Primble, musters the courage to pack up his trusty TC and ship it northward. At least that's the way it's all playing out in my head this morning.:D

Oh yes, a knife that could win a design competition? Right now, I'd say this one:

This knife that is being made for me by Rick Menefee could definitely win a design award

Final Four:

Kentucky
Wisconsin
Michigan State
Duke

Final game - Michigan State 69 Kentucky 64

You have my address Roberto, please ship before your ticker goes out on you after the upset :eek::D

WOW - that Meneffe is awesome Mark. Michigan State - not sure they got the mustard ole buddy.:thumbup:;):thumbdn::grumpy::D

Coolio - That is a fine Palo Santo. Your posted had me laughing. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Good luck everyone !!!! ( fingers crossed behind my back )
