problems with TheBladeShop ?

That's funny: a month ago I ordered a Spyderco on Amazon from a store called U.S. Cutlery, but when I saw my order confirmation, it said The Knife Store. I almost fainted because The Knife Store was the same kind of crooked outfit and it went down a few years ago...
Is Amazon coming to the rescue of failed businesses owned by thieves? I hope not...

Well....it did take some time, but they did finally give me my money back yesterday. They finally recredited my card with all of it, the price of the knife and the $20.00 I paid for the 2 day shipping that I opted for...3.5 months ago.

They said a lot of problems were caused when they relocated....I wonder why they had to relocate?

Oh, darn! Did my research on what knife to buy but not where to buy. Just got an e-mail from them that the Ontario SP 2 is on backorder. No such notice on the seal pup elite that I also ordered, so I hope that one gets shipped. Guess I'll cross my fingers and ask my litigation attorney (wife) for advice. Perhaps it is still early enough to cancel my order...

I placed an order last Christmas (well it was about a month before) for a few knives, and all but 1 or 2 were out of stock. I did get an e-mail that told me this, so I called them up the next day and had them drop the knives that were out of stock and added a few other knives to the order. It took them about a month to actually get the right knives (or so I thought) in the order and to correct my address that they somehow f!#ked up. So I ended up getting my order almost 2 months after the day I placed the order. Even with the knives in stock they didn't ship on time.

I opened up the package to find that they gave me a different model knife for one of the knives I ordered, but all the rest were there. TERRIBLE customer service, I've never had to call one place so many times because of their mistakes. I must've made well over 10 calls and even then they still messed up. I've never used them since and really think they should be shut down.

That's the problem with The Blade Shop: they do not know what order cancellation means, once they have taken your money, it becomes their money, whether they actually have the knife you ordered or not.
Another thing they pretend not to know is that a refund actually involves giving back the money, not just send an e-mail saying that they have issued a refund...

Well, I did receive the part of the order I did not cancel. We'll see about the $32 refund... still not posted my CC 5 business days after the cancellation. When I called after receiving the "backorder" e-mail, they affirmed that it would be just over a month before they received the Ontario SP2 and they were delaying shipment of the entire order until it arrived. They were very responsive to the order change (except the refund) and shipped what they had.

My sense is that they are trying to run a legitimate business, but that they are very bad at it. I contacted gpkinves (after doing more research) and they are getting my next order.

They are not "trying to run a legitimate business" . They are trying to rip people off and in fact are very doing a very good job at it. These subhuman sleazeballs are the Bernie Maddof's of the knife world.

I thought the same thing, until I had to call them almost a dozen times to fix an order. And then I see what they've done to a lot of other people. I think by now they would know how to run things if they were trying to run a legit business.

There is a fine line between incompetent business operations and ripping people off. Given the volume of serious issues people have had with them, you are likely correct. personally, I will never order from them again and will actively discourage others from doing so as well.

i just did a buy from TGS/Blade Shop (and i wouldn't have had i done more research on them, lesson learned)...long story short; i called to see why it was taking them so long to get product to UPS...called on a monday, was told it would ship out on monday...called on wed to get a tracking #, was told it shipped on tues, couldn't give me a tracking # yet...called on thursday, still could not give me a tracking #, asked them "firmly" when did you ship: mon, tues, thurs, or not yet; they said tues...i am now expecting it a least a week out...

...so i get a ups delivery from a JEL Enterprises on fri; it's the order but with 4 out of 5 items i ordered...packing invoice shows 4 items, 5th item not even listed as backordered...the invoice has a print/packing date: thurs (as in yesterday)....it's the thurs THE DAY I CALLED AND THEY TOLD ME THEY SHIPPED IT OUT ON TUES! THEY LIED x2!!!

...only reason it got to me the next day is because the shipper/supplier is in my city, so my calling them got them to move their a$$ on it...

as for the 5th item, fortunately it is only a $20 pouch, the least critical of my $200 order so i still have some work to do; will have to call them again to get them moving on it...

...first and last order with this outfit...i wish i had known...BUYERS BEWARE!!!

I ordered a couple of sharpmakers from thebladeshop.com and received order in approximatley 1 week, no problems. I suppose I am one of the lucky ones. YMMV.

that being said, in light of the large number of documented problems with this company I will never order from them again.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

My story is so much like the others, I ordered a model 553 Benchmade from them and it took me a month to get it resolved.

If your Item says "processing" and you find that it is "waiting for supplier" this is how you can GET YOUR MONEY BACK from these people.

(1) Get out a piece of paper and pen, then call them on the number provided on the website. (we have already established that emails are useless)

(2) Once you get a hold of someone ask who you are speaking with and write down there NAME, the TIME and DATE. (I dealt with Joy and Crystal)

(3) Tell her/him that you see that your order is out of stock and you would like a refund. (in there refund policy it says that you may cancel orders on out of stock items)

(4) If they say "it'll be in at the end of the week, two days from now, next Friday, bla bla bla" say "I Just want my refund" and reference their policy on refunds for back ordered items if need be.

(5) Then she'll tell you it takes about 10 business days for the money to be refunded, bite your tongue and say "OK, thank you"

(6) Make sure you wrote down the whole conversation, you will need this information later when dealing with your bank. Print out your order receipt(from your email) and a copy of there refund policies from the site so you can present all this information to your bank representative.

(7) After the 10 business days are up check your account, if the refunds not in there head up to your bank with all the information you've collected and file a dispute (charge back). you should request a new credit/debit card as well.

I have ordered with thebladeshop.com 5 times, and 4 were very dissapointing. Three of the five orders I cancelled after waiting a month, calling them, finding out the items were out of stock and no longer available! They never called to let me know, no email, nothing....just holding my money probably sitting it in some account that pays interest. They charge the card, wait a month, when you call to ask they say the item is no longer available, you ask for a refund, then it takes a month for the refund to show up for some unknown reason. If I didn't know better I'd think they were in the business of holding peoples money, not selling knives. I'll never use them again.

They are still doing the same things everyone here mentions. I ordered three weeks ago, back ordered. They say that they don't know what Benchmade will send them, they just get boxes in and sort them orders every two weeks. My preliminary research shows that they MAY be operating without a business license from the secretary of state of TN. I'll wait my 10 to 14 days and see if I get my refund. I'm documenting everything and will dog them until I get my $$$ back. The credit card companies should revoke their privileges. In todays economy, it's risky letting companies take money before shipping.

Has anyone called Benchmade to inform them the have a dealer acting in this manner. I bet Benchmade would care. I went to Benchmade's website to look up to see if the Blade Shop was a dealer and found the following;

JEL ENTERPRISES
3701 NEAL DIVE
KNOXVILLE TN, 37918
(877)-291-1328

Same phone number and zip code. Maybe Benchmade is not aware that JEL is actually The Blade Shop.

Just my experience with the Blade Shop, in September I ordered a Spyderco Manix 2, which was backordered by everyone, anyway they kept pushing back the expected date, this was after they had already charged my debit card(which to be fair they say they will do on their web site, don't know anyone else who does this however) Any way after waiting awhile I decided I did not being like being charged for something before they ship it so I sent them an e-mail canceling. I received an automated response that they had recieved my message and would contact me in 24-48 hours and that if I did not here from them to call them. A few days go by no contact so I call and was told that to cancel an order you have to contact by phone. Okay, I cancelled, then today I realized that the 86.50 still hasn't been credited to my account, I was told it would take 10-14 business days for this to happen.(the debit was immediate on the original order!) So I called and talke to a fellow, very nice, he checked and apparently it had never been done so he resubmitted it to their credit dept? and he said I should have it in two or three days. Soooo, I to will take my buisness elsewhere,as they are too many great web sites to deal with. Stay Safe.

i would like to add my name to the ever-growing list of customers fed-up with thebladeshop.com. after searching for a while, and doing comparison shopping across the web, i decided to purchase the amazing microtech combat troodon (i already own an mt ultratech, which i love: precision, heft and craftsmanship personified). i saw a good price at thebladeshop and placed my order, adding expedited (two-day) shipping. my credit card was charged immediately, i saw that my order was marked "processing," and anticipated the knife showing up in two days. next thing i know, the word "backordered" (sound familiar yet...?) shows up. i email them and find that, according to them (three days later):

"Hi,
We are still waiting on those from Microtech, but there is good news - we heard from them directly that they will be shipping more knives out to companies because they have had to put a halt to their gun production. So, this will hopefully arrive soon and we email you when it ships. They do not give dates on each knife. I apologize for the delay, but we do appreciate your business and patience."

so, i am optimistic, and not yet suspicious. then, i find out that the knife i wanted was going to take even longer to get. i contacted microtech and began a very satisfying relationship with meme, their customer service rep. she was willing to work with me directly, and offered to send me the same model with the wharncliff blade for the same price. when i emailed tbs.com to cancel my order, they said they could send me the same knife that mt was offering -- for only $89.00 more!
i wrote them back, pretty heated-up by this time, and said no! they were going to send me that knife at the same price or they could cancel my order. then, like the sales person at the ford dealer leaving the room to "go talk to the manager," the email person said that she spoke with her supervisor and they would send me the knife for the same price.
i said no, again, just cancel my order. next thing i know, the person emails back to say that through some shipping error, the knife has already been sent out! i received my knife today -- over one month after i placed the order.
i would like to say that the knife was worth the wait, and it is a fantastic piece of engineering, but my experience with thebladeshop.com was a royal pain in the ass. on the other hand, mt was very responsive, meme in particular. the only way thebladeshop.com will learn is for folks to stop ordering from them. let the market speak: thebladeshop.com is a jalopy on the information superhighway. the sooner the competition passes or crushes them, the better.
