problems with TheBladeShop ?

Here is some feedback. I was looking at my credit card statements over the last year prior to filing my 2008 income tax. I ordered a protech knife from these dirtbags almost a year ago and of course my credit card was charged immediatly and I never recieved the knife. After I contacted them I was told via email that my credit card would be "refunded" within 5 days. Being the trusting sort I assumed this would happen and I never checked to confirm it untill recently. I am amazed that this rip off scam has been been allowed to continue for so long and quite honestly I think the state attorney general deserves a lot of the blame here. I have to meet with a consumer lawyer next week for a different issue but rest assured I am going to pick his brain about any recourse regarding these parasites at "The Bladeshop". Quite honestly I would gladly invest one thousand times the amount of money I was ripped off by these examples of human garbage if there is any chance I can help put these crooks behind bars.

I ordered a Spyderco Superhawk from The Blade Shop on 03/24/2009. It was delivered yesterday on 03/28/2009. I paid $171 for it. It is a factory first with zero blade play. Free shipping and they insured it. I've ordered from them before without any problems.

Sometimes they are fine. But a good company should be fine all the time.

I (attempted) purchased a knife at thebladeshop.com on 3/12/09 the charge appeared on my debit account on 3/13/09. I assumed the product had been shipped as most "Legitimate” on-line retailers don’t charge your card until they ship the product. I waited a week and when it still had not arrived I checked back on-line at thebladeshop.com to check order status. Status stated; “processing”. I waited till the 3/23/09 and checked again. Status: “Processing”. I tried to call their 800# and received a busy signal. I continued to try and call for several hours and continued to received a busy signal. As I was calling and getting a busy signal I was on their site trying to look up the knife I had ordered…they had taken that model off of their site…I attempted to call later in the afternoon and finally the phone call went through to an automated hold sequence for at least 15 minutes. A real person finally answered and he looked up my order and said it was on “back order”. I asked when do you expect the order to be fulfilled? He placed me on hold for 8 minutes and came back to say that the knife was no longer available. I asked for a credit back to my card and he said he would take care of it.

The fact that, other than receiving a order confirmation email when I placed the order, I never received any communication regarding the product being on “back-order” or “no longer available”. Obviously they realized the product was no longer available as they removed it from their web site but never contacted me.

A week later on 3/30/09 my account did not show any credit received from thebladeshop.com. I called and again it took 8 min in the automated hold…finally got through to someone explained my predicament and the fact that I have yet to receive a credit for the order placed 18 days earlier that was never shipped because it was a discontinued product. After putting me on hold for 5 more minutes she came back and said that they do the returns in batches and they would do another batch today and I should see a credit in 7-10 days. I expressed my frustration with the fact that they charged my account and never had the product available to sell. I am still waiting to see a credit on my account.

Looked them up on BBB.org and they have an "F" rating. They are located at 3207 Tazewell Pike Ste. 102, Knoxville, TN 37918. Eddie Loveday is the owner and Will Chagnon is listed as management. The BBB has processed 82 complaints in the last 36 months. From the looks of the complaints on this message board going back 3-4 years it has been the same thing. They charge the customers CC for products they dont ship...they dont credit the money back when they say they will. They need to be shut down by the federal trade commission.

I placed an order December 2008. I received an e-mail today stating that they have no ETA for the backordered items, but that they expect a shipment in 1-2 weeks. :jerkit: I replied back telling them to cancel and refund (roughly $700).

82 complaints registered with the BBB! This "company" has been in business for a number of years. All this tells me is that the state of Tennesse regulates it's business worse then a third world country. I for one will never again deal with any online company located in Tennesse.

Actually, this business clearly is and has been in violation of Federal Law and subject to some reasonably stiff fines. Either they don't care or don't know. They should, since penalties per violation can go back several years and the business has been racking up quite a few just in Blade Forums alone.

I got lucky. I just got into knives and ordered from them before finding bladeforums. After the usual things started happening (orders not showing up on time, immediate charging of my credit card, not answering emails, busy phone etc etc etc), I googled it and that is how I stumbled upon bladeforums. Luckily I received one of my orders and the other was refunded even though it took almost a month. When I started reading the thread on them I could not believe the amount of pages that detailed all of the wrong doings from thebladeshop. It is almost comical how they continue to do the same thing over and over and over, and are still in business!

If you paid by credit card initiate chargeback procedures. Don't let them find ways to delay your refund until it is too late to do a chargeback.

I ordered four knives from TheBladeShop as Christmas gifts. I'd put everything off as usual, so this was like 10 days before Christmas. Called first to make sure everything was in stock, then submitted the order online. The lady I talked to on the phone was nice, the knives showed up a few days later in time for me to wrap and distribute them all by the 25th. It was really a good experience. Maybe I was lucky, or maybe the stuff I ordered was all common B-flat high-velocity stuff that was kept in stock. Hard to know. After reading through this thread, I have to admit I'd think twice about ordering from them again. Or, at the very least, I'd use the same "call before ordering" strategy.

However, one thing I must say is, the TheBladeShop's online catalog is MUCH easier to browse that than those of some of the other online retailers who receive consistently positive reviews and recommendations--e.g., GP knives, New Graham. Maybe knife biz is low-margin, or maybe lower online production values are expected, I don't know. But I betcha dollars to doughnuts if those guys would drop some money into reorganizing their websites, they would recoup the investment pretty quick.

After I posted my issues with "thebladeshop.com" on this forum I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov) If everyone who has had issues with thebladeshop.com would have filed complaints with the FTC over the past 2-3 years perhaps they would be shut down or forced to run a legitimate business. I also filed a complaint with the BBB...but even on their web site it states that thebladeshop.com did not respond to over 30 complaints that the BBB submitted.

Check out knifeworks.com. They have a catalog similar to bladeshop

I don't know how can somebody say that their online catalog is good if most of the items listed are not in stock even though they show as available!
If you compare positively the Blade Shop to New Graham, GPKnives or any other reputable online knife retailer you are either very lucky or you have not been buying knives for long.
That company is a scam, they charge customers upfront for items they do not have (and they cannot have, since they are discontinued). They then put your order on hold and give you a hard time to refund it.
Please do not post positive experiences with this store in this thread, you are actually helping them rip-off customers! Who cares about a 1 in 20 satisfied customer!

I search online for various brands all the time and noticed that The Blade Shop isn't on Google Adwords any longer and when you go to their site you see that they are temporary closed. Not really certain how long this has been this way. Maybe they received a knock on the door?

That would be great news and I am convinced this outcome was made possible by all those that contributed to this thread with their negative experiences about those thieves.

Even better news: both TacLighting and Tactical Gun Armory are also closed, so this does not look like routine maintenance. I hope those guys end up making license plates for us...

As they should! Not only that using this information from the thread should help folks with their cc companies to reverse charges in the past, which were denied due to 'time restrictions' caused by the lack of response from The Blade Shop!
