Proposed 2022 Bladeforums knife??

Well, I hope that you found one. I don’t know much about FB and I’ve never had an account. I do know that there’s no knife that I would abandon my moral compass to obtain. That particular club sounds dreadful.
No I never did. Will remain a grail. I have 36 in my humble collection and all but 6 were direct from dealer. Others were traded from dealer purchased knives.

you too eh? she booted me ages ago for calling her out. There is no secret who that is for sure. she scoops ups knives here for thos "waffles"
I could send you the text convos. I became really annoyed and directly bashing all the known eBay flippers. It’s a joke.

Just for the record, and the only thing I'll say on the subject of Facebook; there's not only one group, and multiple groups are being discussed here. waverave waverave runs the one referred to as GECC, and waffles are only allowed for admin approved good causes. There's another that's primary purpose is as a marketplace, and that's where the waffles and the vast majority of flipping is done in my opinion. It's pretty clear that people are discussing these groups without much if any knowledge of them, and I don't really care but it's worth pointing out that there are MANY different groups on Facebook dedicated to traditional knives. I don't know where all the drawing of the proposed knife was posted. I like the history of the Bunny Knife and therefore would be happy to get one, but if I don't I'm as sure as I can be without asking Bill that they'll do a regular run (of some similar if not necessarily exact variety) of knives on the same pattern that I can go for instead.

Man, I don’t post a ton. Joined the forum last October and heard of all the drama this forum has and the unfriendliness. And I haven’t seen it yet until these last 3-5 pages.

I love my GEC collection. I love that there is a forum knife. If I’m eligible great, if I’m not, I’ll grab a regular run of this upcoming PPP.

Some of the really rude comments just proves what everyone has told me. I now see who to avoid.

As far as the the FB group 98% of the members are great guys and great conversations are brought up on a daily over there. Anyone here that thinks otherwise is just narrow minded. Or spouting opinions on a topic they know little about. waverave waverave does a fantastic job with the group and is ushering in a new generation of collectors.

High horses need to be stepped down from here. Otherwise, make the porch it’s own forum separate from BF so you can deny future members.

Your post is very well said and very well written. I want to piggy back and add a +1 to this specifically. 👍

You guys are mistakenly thinking The Porch is rude. There is a history of exploitation that many members are obviously disappointed in, that was caused by a lot of new members scrambling to get the knife. It was further exacerbated by some of them flipping it for large sums of money.

There is even a YouTuber that created an account, scooped one up, and then decided to make fun of the Porch members.

There is an understanding that the knives are to be offered back to the community first, or better yet, don't buy one so another member who participates here can enjoy it.

At any rate, don't write of BF with a broad stroke. There is a lot to offer here.

I would also add rabbits are very easy to raise for meat. The worst part is getting past how cute they are. Very easy to clean (watch out for the urine bladder, it will ruin the meat), very easy to humanely dispatch, and delicious.

I have not spent enough time learning how to prepare the fur to be used, but it's on the bucket list.

I am also curious on how the Bunny Knife pattern came to be. I wonder if it's due to the butt protruding a bit lower that allows for your last two fingers to manipulate the tip with a little more finesse?

But a certain person is doing the same with “Facebookers”. We’re not all bad. In fact I’d say we’re more into the GEC community than most here. We have our fingers typing all day and night chatting with BF members, GECC members and comments on pictures on Instagram. Some of us live for this stuff.

And I totally understand being protective of a forum knife. I’ve seen the stupid prices. I get it. But that’s what a free market does. You can say the same thing about regular run patterns. Way over priced on the secondary.

This is false, which is the issue.

ive been told its very gamey? or stringy? im not sure what the proper term is. However I do look forward to some day adding it to the list of exotic meats ive tried.

Hmmmm, it’s easy math. You spend your time in one outlet for information and community for the hobby/brand you enjoy. I’m already spending it in twice as much as you being in the GECC. BF tab open all day. FB GECC checked all day. Following Instagram hashtags such as #gec #greateasterncutlery and #slipjoint to check out collectors pictures of their prized knives. Not hard to figure out my friend.

I'm a member of both of the groups you mention, both GECC and the Slipjoint Exchange. Can we please not act like the Porch members are the bad guys here? I've seen the comments about Bladeforums, its members, and forums in general before, during, and after last year's BF Forum Knife debacle. The negative comments about Bladeforums, its members, and how "Forums are just for old people, Facebook is WAY cooler*" because there happens to be gatekeeping around the Bladeforums Knife were numerous. Also? The thread that's up on GECC right now already has negative comments happening, and those comments have likes. And oddly, I don't see any mods stepping in to shut that down. So, let's stop acting like stuff isn't what it is, alright? You, a stranger with an absurdly minimal post count attempting to call out someone like Jack Black Jack Black is rich, maybe if you were actually a participating contributor here, you'd know who you were talking to.

But, since you're just here for the knife, I understand why you have zero clue.

* The amusement I took at the ridiculousness of this comment, I can barely put into words.

I would consider "gamey" to be a taste and "stringy" to be a texture. I've eaten a pretty good amount of wild rabbit and I'd say both can be accurate. But it's very good when done right.

I'm not as familiar with farmed rabbit.

I wouldn’t do it with your prized meat rabbit, but you don’t even need a blade to clean a rabbit. You can squeeze/push gut them. Squeeze below armpits, squeeze and slide and it’ll come right out the rear end.

That or slice down the belly and literally fling/flick the rabbit and it’ll all fly out.

Much prefer larger game but I’ve cooked a cotton tail or two on pack hunting trips.

You continue to not know who you're talking to, and you keep making false statements. It's a bad look, please stop. There are actually many of us who are members of both Bladeforums, GECC, the Slipjoint Waffle House, Reddit pages, and have an IG, and follow all the big guys. You and your browsing habits aren't special, and certainly don't place you above anyone here. Sorry to have burst your bubble, which is ironic, considering it was you (or one of these other folks) talking about high horses.

Edit: For some reason this posted twice

Again. Since you didn’t read previous post. I really don’t care if I get a crack at the BF knife. I won’t complain about it. It’s a knife. The ones who do complain have bigger problems in their lives. I’m not here to win one. Just pointing out that the comments are absolutely rude. The high horses you “older BF members” ride is really just a cloak of entitlement.

I'm genuinely curious, did you mean to quote me? I have over 8,000 comments on BF (mostly in this subforum), have only positive feedback here, joined before you did (almost 10 years ago), and most importantly didn't say anything negative about anyone. I simply pointed out that there seemed to be some confusion about what groups were being discussed.

If you were intentionally replying to me then I don't think there's a discussion to be had for us, but I wish you the best.

One reason that many on this forum are so appalled by forum-knife-flippers, is that by agreement with the forum owner, the members who organize and distribute the knife are not paid to do so. When buying one, you agree to only sell at your cost, if you decide to sell. So it's not the same as the free market dealings of regular runs. It's an insult to the efforts of volunteers.
