Quartermaster Knives....WTF

GPKnives has also stated that they have all their current Quartermaster stock on clearance and will no longer be carrying them after those are sold due to the exact concerns raised in this thread. They're good people.

Good on them! I don't mean to single out BHQ but only bring them up because that "was" my trusted go to source.
There are plenty of online retailers and I may be old fashioned, but I want to buy from someone that believes and practices the old saying "we stand behind the product lines we carry" ... not "we can't vouche for what we sell is even legit", I mean seriously what the hell. I can buy knives all day from anonymous third party stores off Ebay and Amazon if I want to do that.

You do understand that BHQ, even if their initial reaction was less than satisfactory (in my opinion), has done the right thing and removed any assertion of country of origin, right?

Yes they are good people ! I won't be doing business with any Retailer that carries the 2017 Quartermaster Knives !!!

Doing the right thing imho would be to do exactly what New Graham is doing, by clearing out current stock and DUMPING Quartermaster all together !

They didnt say anything about clearing out current stock and dumping them. he said he changed the location of origin to "hell i dont know" or something like that. GPKnives stated they were on clearance on whats left in inventory and not picking them back up. am i wrong? i just went through the thread again and didnt catch it otherwise.

knife center still hasnt put any comment yet. i dont know if anyone brought it to their attention. can someone email them please?

I remember Blade HQ's response in an earlier thread. Basically, they said it is not feasible for them to check all supplier claims, and that Quartermaster had told them that they were USA Made. IMHO, the "tone" of Blade HQ's response was rather petulant and left me with a very bad taste in my mouth.

My company (nothing to do with knives) builds products 100% in the USA. Domestic manufacturing is a VERY big deal to me, and I am disgusted with how many companies fraudulently claim that foreign products are made in the USA.

Blade HQ has admitted that there is a problem with Quartermaster, yet they continue to sell their knives. The claim that removing the "Made in the USA" claim is an adequate solution, but I don't see it that way. I have spent $1000s of $s with Blade HQ, and always been happy with their customer service. However, Blade HQ's continued selling of Quartermaster is a deal breaker for me.

I WILL NOT SPEND ANOTHER $ WITH BLADE HQ AS LONG AS THEY SELL QUARTERMASTER.

I will not spend a $ with any other dealer that sells these knives, or any product that fraudulently claims to be Made in the USA.

they cannot be responsible for checking every manufacture or business licenses. /troll (edit)

but you are doing exactly what im doing. i think the whole 10 people it matters that much to wont be a loss to them and i think removing the origin is at least better than nothing. agree about the past responses and thats more upsetting more than anything.

That is not what is being discussed or requested. There is a huge body of evidence supporting claims that QM is not made in the USA. Blade HQ is aware of it and concerned enough about it to remove those claims from their website. However, the still think it is ok to sell QM. That is their choice. My choice is to spend my $s elsewhere.

edit to add:
I actually really like Blade HQ. They always provided great customer service. However, this issue is bigger than customer service. I doubt I am alone in thinking this way.

You took every word right out of my mouth EXACTLY- I agree 1000% percent and your observations. It's the biggest copout I have ever seen.. I can't even believe for the life of me ANYONE reputable in the industry would knowingly sell a product that looks likely to be COA counterfeits.

We didn't ask Blade HQ to check every manufacturer, only the scum bag manufacturer Quartermaster that they still continue to sell.
I think their response is a joke.

A thread dedicated to dealers who continue to sell qtrmstr might be in the future. We as a community could politely ask them to help us get verification of there origin or stop selling them. When the views start piling up and the pressure builds, things change.

But basically, bladehq says they don't care. So maybe if we raise enough awareness we could "help" them care by decreasing their sales.

Funny, how people who don't care, start caring when they start losing money.

Like the "BG42" knives from his "Mantis" brand? (Since he is still selling "BG42" knives, I wonder where he is getting BG42.)

Or the secret "M-VX" super steel:

I don't know if Jared was with Mantis as at the time, but I picked up something with this super M-VX. The only reason I bought it was because it was super cheap as my dealer was trying to clear out inventory. Fifteen bucks may have still been too much. [emoji51]

About the steel, it is SUPER SOFT! I would guess 3cr at best, maybe with a poor or non-existent heat treat. I really like most knives, but this one was really only bought for laughs. So far it's done the job. [emoji23]

While I agree with the sentiment, I think this is a step too far. I would be satisfied with any dealer that simply stops asserting that the knives are USA made, when that claim is clearly not supported by anything other than the supplier's claims, and there are lots of reasons to believe that claim to be false.

As it turns out U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the agency that enforces Country of Origin marking and claims.
