Quartermaster knives

Regardless of where they're being made, I'm keen on this new Grant and Gavin Hawk collab.

My only concern is that they did not show it being closed with one hand. As neat as it would be to fiddle with the E.T. feature, I have no use for a knife that requires two hands to operate at any stage of use.

I definitely am attracted to the new WT collaboration knives, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they weren't actually made in the U.S.

I just got my knife back from Quartermaster. They replaced my knife entirely, now I have a sweet new PE Murdock. Stonewashed finish too. Pretty damn sweet customer service, considering that it was pretty short turn around.

I had a Quartermaster knife for a while. Not sure where they produce them, but I have no reason to believe they aren't produced in the U.S. The knife was very nice, and the steel seemed legit. Fit and finish was spot on. The model I had (Face Peck I believe) was simply not practical for my uses. I will certainly be interested in buying more of their products though, especially that Hawk collab.

That's pretty nice of them, what was wrong with it?

Do they have a written warranty published somewhere? Didn't see it on their site.

The Instagram vid shows one handed operation. Watch your pinky though!

I like the idea that QM is made in the USA with all parts made in the USA; even the box. Also that I'm a Texan and QM is in Texas. With all this negative hype, not sure what to believe. I ordered a Quartermaster Murdock from BladeHQ before even hearing about Mantis. Watched a video review on the Murdock on YouTube by pyaoliang and digged the knife. Love the deep carry clip, stubby thick blade, and blade material. I use a knife daily on opening boxes and cutting plastic wrap off pallets. Need a strong, durable material to hold an edge. This knife, along with next possible purchase of the Mantis Pit Boss, seemed to fit the criteria of what I needed in a knife. I did a lot of kicking tires on both Mantis and Quartermaster websites after reading about both companies. The design grew on me after looking. I was more into a classic design since I consider myself a classic guy; I wear Polo and Rolex watches (maybe kind of shallow that way, forgive me). And being a collector of fine watches, I know my Swiss watches are 100% Swiss in every way. No loop hole here for my collection (Rolex, Omega, Cartier, and Panerai.). Seems like Jared West or someone from either Company would want to clear the air.

Well............, actually they are not 100%.
But as this is a knife forum, I'll leave it to you, to look into the Swiss law regarding when a Swiss manufacturer can call a watch 'Swiss Made.'

Man did I sound like a snob. I was into my third Shiner when I wrote that. At least it was a beer brewed right here in Texas. Not sure if it's by staff that are all 100% Texans lol!

I have no doubt that some of the lower end Swiss watches are not 100% Swiss. Whether it be in parts or put together. For example Tissot, some Invicta models, some Movado models as well. And that is other countries saying its one thing when it's the other. As for Americans saying it's made in the USA, that's just blasphemy when it's not 100% made in the USA. I know Jared West mentioned that some of the Mantis knives are outsourced from other countries and that QM is made from all parts USA with put together in the USA in a interview on YouTube. Just not sure why he would lie about it when people that buy knives are still purchasing knives made outside the USA.

So I finally got to try one of these out for myself. I picked up a QTR-5 in the black on stonewash. I had an issue with it unfortunately and it had to go back, but QTRM5TR made it right and quick. They replaced the knife and I had a new one in their Texas Tea finish in my hands in less then a week (TT was all they had in stock, which I don't mind a bit).

The knife is smooth on opening and rock solid. Pretty heavy for the size but with a steel frame lock that thick I was expecting it to have some heft. I got to say, I'm happy with it and pretty impressed by the customer service I received.

Edit: Just wanted to add, I emailed them on a Saturday with my issue and received an email about 10 minutes later with an apology and a RA#.

I had the same, lightning quick response on a Saturday night of all times.

After my new Murdock going a few sharpening and a whole lot of stropping, it is still awesome. If it had a flipper and went on a diet, it could be a superb edc.

Totally forgot to answer this, I just sent the knife in for a new pocket clip and they offered a general refurbish (lock was getting a little late, so why not?) and I included a note saying that a replacement plain edge blade would be really groovy, so they sent me a brand new plain edge stonewashed model. Absurdly over the top customer service, and I loved it!

As for warranty, I saw it once and I can't remember where. Standard lifetime warranty, from what I remember. They also paid return shipping, but I don't know if that is normal.

You guys just love the drama, some of you guys are worse then middle aged women in that regard.

I think Quartermaster's very active and friendly social media presence has done them wonders for distracting people from the very questionable information that is being presented here. Shipments of knives being received from China, a residential address (later changed to a PO Box) as their headquarters, and not a single photograph on their very active instagram page of their factory in Texas that they continuously emphasize?

Furthermore, the quality of the new "Mr. Roper" model has been dubious at best. Every customer review I have been able to find has complained that they're very stiff, and one person even posted the terrible finishing on the washers and the questionable machining on the pivots. Also, they all seem to come with about 80% lockup from the factory with a radiused lock face.
