Quartermaster knives

I think Quartermaster's very active and friendly social media presence has done them wonders for distracting people from the very questionable information that is being presented here. Shipments of knives being received from China, a residential address (later changed to a PO Box) as their headquarters, and not a single photograph on their very active instagram page of their factory in Texas that they continuously emphasize?

I don't think anyone is gonna ague the fact that it's Jared West company. As far as the information, it is questionable, but it also coming from someone that as it appears now, seems to be working for Mantis Knives in some capacity or another (Mantis being the company Jared was fired from by his father, Gary). So I don't know what the hell is up.

What I do know it that I had a QTR-5, had an issue, contacted them and was more then taken care of. The QTR-5 is the only QTRM5TR that I have held or seen in person and I can say it's a well made knife.

It'd be nice if Adam (FlipinBean) would post up all the info he has pertaining to QTRM5TR and their supposed importation of china made knives and then we can see if QTRM5TR has an answer for any of it. Posting things up, then editing it out several hours later doesn't do anything to help the situation.

I received a letter from qtrmaster attorney so I can't reall say much because I'm an unemployed student now so can't risk crap. Second no I do not work for Mantis. Occasionally they will have me work a show but that is the extent of that.

Now that is a little odd, receiving a threat from an attorney when all you did was post that there may be a little issue between Quartermaster and Warren Thomas. An immediate attorney response makes it seem like there is something to hide.

Thanks for clearing some of it up.

There's a lot more to it but as I have been advised that I should sit back and let the truth come out

This is unfortunate. If the information is out there it should be shared. That said, I understand your situation. Perhaps Gary would like to share it:D (especially after how Jared left Mantis)

Gary wants to focus on himself. He doesn't want to talk of qtr or Jared.

I have a NIB QTR9 up for grabs in the trade section if anyone is interested #99/300. Quartermaster is definitely a good company regardless of their design similarities with Mantis. They are so far above Mantis its not even funny in terms of materials/F&F. I just wish they'd produce some non futuristic ninja looking ones. They are pieces of functional art though.

I have never wanted to be one of those people who goes on a personal, butthurt crusade against a manufacturer but take a look at this post from Warren Thomas himself:

Questionable manufacturing (and Warren's recent reputation) aside, stealing someones design outright and then claiming you have their permission isn't cool.

oh wow, whats up with that? any more information about this? i wonder what is going on. the warren thomas designed quartermasters look great, i was hoping they would be around for a while.

I'm not crazy about Quartermaster but was considering picking one up since they are made here in the Lone Star State. I have to say now I'm thinking twice because I'm not sure where they're coming from.

Still, this has been a really interesting read and I'm curious to see what's going on with them.

I know Mr. Thomas and have met Mr. West. Mr. West has stolen at least 3 unique knife designs from WT and never paid him royalties on the one knife that they did have a deal on (Mantis coin knife). This seems to be Jared's business model:

1. Gain trust of custom knife maker
2. Wave around wads of cash, promising large sums and royalties for design rights
3. Get free protos from custom knife maker
4. Reverse engineer said protos, have them made in China, assemble them in the US and slap "MADE IN THE USA" all over them
5. Stop answering the phone when said custom knife maker calls to ask where his money is

Mr. West is an unethical businessman, and I don't care if his attorneys track me down. They can
spit venom and threaten me with slander but I have first hand experience. I anodized the handle
scales on the Quartermaster "Vaquita", which we all know is a copy of WT's mini T-Rex. I was there
when WT was trying to get ahold of Mr. West. I was in line at the post office with WT when we dropped
off the last batch of them. Mr. Thomas was not compensated for his design or labor, nor was he paid
any of the promised royalties.

Quartermaster knives/ Jared West has hurt a good friend of mine financially and his young children
have had to suffer because of it. Mr. West caused WT a huge financial loss that he's still feeling the
shockwaves from. Warren's too nice of a guy and entirely too busy to go around bashing people or defending
himself on the forums, so I'm going to take it up on myself.

People need to know the truth about this awful little man, Jared West, and his evil company.

...and to whoever harped on WT's rep - you have no idea what the man has been through. His shop and
majority of his work was destroyed a few years ago and he was desperate to rebuild - thus the deal with Mantis.
He's had great difficulty bouncing back after Jared raped his good name and stole his work, time, and money.

Due to this fiasco he's been forced to work 12 hours+ a day, 7 days a week just to keep his home and kids fed
and healthy.

So come and get me attorneys. You can PM me for my real name and phone number. I have piles of evidence
against Mr. West and would like to testify if it goes to court.

You're representing a liar and a thief. Quartermaster should be nuked from the face of the Earth.

EDIT: What kind of moron would name knives after Three's Company characters anyway?

Sounds like WT needs to lawyer up and take the fight to Jared if this is the case.

Wonder if anyone was consulted before Jared started producing a copy of Massad Ayoob's design that he had worked up with Spyderco?

I agree, messages on Facebook (I saw WT's post earlier this month) and forums isn't going to get it done, in my opinion. At least in terms of actual restitution not just public opinion on the matter.
