Quartermaster knives

Directly from Quartermaster's website:

"This is why all QTRM5TR knives, 100 percent of their components, even the boxes they're sold in are Made in the USA."

Yeah right. Also, I do wonder if they keep spelling their name wrong on the website if this means they get out of any issues saying, "Oh, you meant Quartermaster, no we're QTRM5TR.

There's a loophole which allows for the branding of something to be made in the USA as long as it's X amount produced here or something like that.

I don't have to worry about it as I buy from reputable makers but still the fact of the matter remains that someone along the line is deceiving someone.

Kind of like how SOG does the whole "Assembled in USA". The more I hear, the less I am liking this whole matter. I have no problem with imports, but I do have qualms with being misled about that.

I applaud SOG for being truthful. Especially with things like their autos, you CAN NOT import autos, so the parts can be made overseas, but they have to be assembled domestically. Good on them for being truthful, but it is slightly deceiving to not say made in China/Taiwan and say Assembled in USA.

"QTRM5TR" is more like.. QUARTERMESTER or QUARTERMETER. It should be spelled like, "QTRM4STR", since the letters are capitalized.

This shipping manifest should be verification imho V
(Wayeah Knives & Tools Co., Ltd. shipped to Copiousity Llc aboard ocean vessel Mol Matrix loaded at Yantian, China (Mainland) and discharged at Los Angeles, California on July 9, 2013. The cargo was described as: pocket knife **this shipment contains no solid wood packing materials** ...) V

COPIOUSITY LLC, 227 TURKEY DR, DRIPPING SPRINGS ...

I didn't even see this - great investigative work Skyhorse. It just validates what I (we) already knew. There needs to be a sticky for this to warn future possible buyers.

Interestingly enough...

Taken from Quartermaster's website...
The 6-acre complex is under 24 hour surveillance using recently de-classified thermal imaging sensors. The 8,500 square foot facility is home to multiple design studios, think-tanks & a 3,000 sq ft shop floor. However, a medical-grade clean room and a 3 story-high knife museum with a biometric-scanner that allows/denies access are likely to be considered the highlights of our facility.

The house on Zillow was the image initially used on quartermasters about page. And the lot is six acres. I wonder how one would be able to access the "three story knife museum".

Bwahahahaha... He can't even afford to pay WT and fought with him constantly over the pricing when WT was giving him a fantastic deal - and now somehow he has some top secret, ultra-high security facility!!! What, so people can't sneak in and re-steal his designs before he has a chance to bring them to market? :D

Not trying to be an ass but I've been trying to contact qtrmstr through ig , I've been wanting a Hannibal for a long time then got the money together and they are like less than 30 miles from my house so I was gonna drive up there to pick it up ! No response for the past week. What's up with totally ignoring me. ???

Why not just order it online like everyone else if you have your heart set on that "piece"? I doubt you'd be able to get through the Area 51 top secret security anyway. According to Jared, the facility is top secret and has cameras, and all manner of James Bond style security gadgets protecting it. Might even be wrapped in tin foil. I'd use that money for a Benchmade, Spyderco, Kershaw/ZT, anything else.

Bump. Wherever they're made, they do have spare parts available, if anyone's concerned about that. I partially stripped the Torx socket on one of the pivot screws on my QTR-2. Totally my fault, as I thought I'd put a T10 bit in the driver, but actually still had the T8 in it that I was using for the frame screws. :o:rolleyes: I emailed them, told them what happened, and asked about purchasing a new pivot screw. I got a reply asking what finish it was and saying that they would send me one at no charge. Just got it in the mail today, along with a QM decal and the latest mini catalog.

yeah, I saw the booth at the NRA annual meet in Indy, 2014. (I had no idea of all this shite in this thread). I have 2 Mantis knives, and I bought a QTRMSTR - Higgins in Texas Tea for $100. Super solid overbuilt knife, good lockup, nicely centered, smooth after you open/close it a bit. I noted when I got it home, that one of the chain bolts was dinged by someone overtightening, so I emailed them from their site. They answered back in about 30 mins, and sent 3 chain bolts out to me. Good customer service.

I can't speak to all the shite above, but I have bought a number of knives without researching the owners, shops, etc. I primarily look at steels and grinds, man. [I'm sure the same thing went on 500-1000 years ago in sword circles, with everybody wanting an "INGlerii" branded sword, or a "Gorō Nyūdō Masamune" katana. ]

Regardless, I like the knife, although it is 2x bulkier than say my Spyderco Police, so it doesn't get carried in dress pants.

That's what gets me about Quartermaster. The knives are generally well made (some stinkers are there, but every company has QC slips), and the knives function well, but there is the lack of transparency, less than reassuring import invoices, and the whole thing with Warren Thomas.

It sucks because the knives are, regardless of who makes them, good, and the prices are pretty good. Customer service seems to be pretty good too. The product speaks the loudest, but I can't discredit the evidence as innocent or not slightly damning.

I was thinking the same until recently I saw they have a second instagram account called quartermaster backstage that shows some of the behind the scenes at their Texas facility, some of their other issues were mentioned and resolved on that account's pics. Either way they are coming out with some pretty neat knives soon, check out their upcoming "spicoli", it looks really sweet.

I was willing to forgive the lack of transparency and such, but the whole thing with Warren Thomas is too much for me. I would have eventually bought a Mr. Roper, but oh well.

Quartermaster says they were tempted to sue Warren Thomas because they gave him like $8k or something to fabricate some of the hardware for the Roper and he never came through.

What's the deal with the Ropers blade thickness? I heard somewhere it is thinner than the specs because the chinese messed up the order and they had to double up on the washers to compensate.

Uhm, what's up with this picture?

It looks like a poster of bricks or whatever it's supposed to be. You can even see one of the wooden poles.

Here's an overview picture of their compound, though;

And, again, a capitalized A does not look like the number 5. 5 - A. It looks like the number 4. 4 - A. Non-capitalized a looks more like a 5, I guess, but a 4 would do just fine. 5 - a. 4 - a.

Actually you cant import autos in part or in whole. Just ask spyderco. They learned that the hard way and it was on a butterfly knife. Technically all sog autos are illegal.
