Truth be told, I like the looks of the Mr. Roper. If I had the extra funds laying around, I just might pull the trigger.

I just got my Spicoli and am very disappointed. At first I was in love. The knife felt quite solid and solid. Then i checked and it had A LOT of up and down blade play. I contacted qtrmstr and hope they can resolve this problem.

Apparently their customer service is pretty excellent... as it needs to be given how much controversy there has been. I'm sure it will be taken care of. Let us know.

That was quick. gave me an address to send it back to them to fix.

I have a mr. roper and it is currently one of my favorite knives. It was pretty rough opening when I first received it and I almost returned it. Instead I disassembled it and smoothed out the washers on a sharpening stone and now it is perfectly centered and very smooth even though I keep the pivot fairly tight. I love it. I also pulled the trigger on a spicoli so I'm hoping it turns out ok but I haven't received it yet.

I wanted a Mr Roper, but coudnt pull the trigger because of the size. Then I saw the Spicoli and had to get me that BHQ one on sale. It's on its way too for me. Hoping for the best!

I was tempted to buy a Mr. Furley or Vaquita, until I found out the back story with Warren Thomas. The Vaquita is very tempting, there is even another one (approved by WT) called a 9line Sinraptor. I can't find any for sale, though :(

I think the QSE-2 is neat, but I can't pull the trigger with all this shady business I keep hearing. China made or USA made, I don't care, but don't lie to me.

That was quick. They said they fixed my blade play issue and just shipped it back to me.

Wow. I've liked there designs for a while. And have been following them on instagram. Funny the difference in opinions from here and instagram. People rant and rave about them There. I'm glad I searched them in blade forums! I have to say, you guys have made me happy I haven't purchased any of their wares.

Personally I don't care if they make good quality knives or not. They are in my "will not give a dime to" list, and they are at the top. I'm not going to start anything up by listing any others on the list but If anyone makes a thread for people pledging to not buy Quartermaster/QTRM5TR until this is resolved let me know and I'm on it.

I say that with a bit of regret too because I have to say I REALLY liked the Mr. Roper and Spicoli and 1 or 2 of their other designs, but after 1 hearing about the WT issue, 2 noticing that the QSE-2/3 are just revamped masaad ayoob designs and the QSA-1 looks like a revamped boker magnum kuhkri folder and (I just read and looked for myself) the mr spicoli looks like a knockoff of the brad blount surge flipper, and 3 for me the final strike on the list is the questionable headquarters and manufacturing, let alone the fact that the SHOT show interview with Mr. west is segregated and sketchy (like he didn't want to be seen). I understand that some of this is word of mouth but when this many things are brought to question without being addressed and there is little evidence proving otherwise I will await Mr. West's defense to get himself off my sh*t list.

(What kind of moron would name knives after Three's Company characters anyway) These names for knives and spicoli is real dumb and childish. Its the biggest turnoff for buying these knives, let alone grey beadblasting them front to back for almost a 200.00 price tag.Just get a reate and get much much more for your money...

The owner of a specific Instagram account can control what is said there. They can easily remove any negative posts and leave only the bootlicker, brownnoser style posts. It skews everything, pretty simple and easy to see why there is a "difference of opinion". Just like anything else in life, if people take a moment and pause their incessant need for instant gratification and actually research a topic they can usually make much better decisions across the board. Unfortunately, many people prefer the easy (lazy) road of instant gratification and the "I want it NOW" mentality takes precedence.

Yep. If you say ANYTHING negative about the brand (even in someone else's post) they will block you instantly.

I liked someone's post about their knives (or at least the parts) come from China and I got blocked.

its suggested they have a very strong social media presence, but they feel the need to erase questions and feedback about the products origins. Perhaps the knife business isnt for you if youre that touchy... Standing by what you do with facts, and absorbing feedback should be the mission, not obfuscation. You are making deception part of your mission statement. Thats not the mission statement represented on the website...

his own father has had to step in, and post that he lied to the community and fanbase at Mantis. I would be frankly embarrassed if my father had to come behind me and clear the air of my fabrications about my station and nature of position in a family owned corporation.

all and all the saddest fact is presented with all this evidence, they are by all accounts selling. This speaks volumes about the knife buying population outside of the "forum" community. It also is plain that there are people who will read any and all information about the potential of deception and will STILL buy a tacticool hunk of junk with 4 thumbstuds. They have a huge instagram presence, however when instagram purged "purchased" followers their numbers dipped significantly. However, now a days its way easier to groom your fans, and anyone who doesnt like you is a HATER... Having an opinion doesnt make you a HATER, "hater" is a made up bunch of crap from weaklings who want their every decision to be lauded as brilliant, regardless of fact or opinion. There are still those of us who dont need that.

stomp this guy out and within a year there will be another incarnation of the same motiff and similar motive.

sad.

I put a made in the USA sticker on the boxes of our product. If it were to ever fall into question where my product is generated, I have the information to refute and prove otherwise, and would produce it immediately, it would LITERALLY take me about 60 seconds to do so.

so how would anyone believe, brown bagging from shot, muddy physical address', shell corp, girlfriends name on documents, chinese shipping documents, distanced by your own father for unethical business, called out by collaborators...
when in 60 seconds you could end a lot of that heat with a tour of the factory and showing your machines in operation...

doenst make sense.

youre telling BHQ they are made in the US.
SOLUTION: Show them they are with video, pulling a good company into your potential deception is deplorable, put their mind at ease with facts, not lip service.

you know theres speculation about the origin of the products.
SOLUTION: Post a video of your factory, your staff, your machines, and the work being done in house. Since your well capable of using social media, it would literally take you seconds do dispell the negative cloud around your product.

best-

you guys can think what you want about quartermaster; but one thing for sure is that their customer service is amazing. I emailed them that the detent on my qtr-3 got to the point that it was so weak that I could use momentum to swing the knife blade out. They told me to ship the knife in and they will take care of it. About 3 days after I mailed it in they told me they are sending me a brand new qtr-3F, the new and improved version of the model (which is $60 more expensive on BladeHQ) and it got to me in a few days. The whole process took around a week. They are great company that uses great materials to make great knives at a great price, their marketing strategy seems to be a little scummy if all this China BS is true. Quartermaster has a saying "The phrase LIFETIME GUARANTEE is more than just a marketing strategy, it's a sign of our integrity" and at least this is fully true. Regardless, I really like a lot of their designs and will continue to be a customer

One thing to consider is a lifetime guarantee is only good for the companies lifetime.
