Queen Cutlery Company Closes

I went back and pulled up my original thread on this and in that thread "knowtracks" posted this:

"Servotronics (correct spelling) Corp. based in Italy, bought Ontario Cutlery in 1967. Ontario bought the Robeson tang stamp in 1971. Servotronics Corp. bought Queen Cutlery in 1969.

From "American Pocketknives"

Interesting and I'm glad this bit of buried info is into the light again.

I was told that Servotronics from Buffalo, NY, owned Ontario and Queen. I remember my first SFO (ca. 2005) had to be discussed with someone who was mostly based at Ontario (forget his name). That indicates that Ontario might have been a step up the corporate ladder.
I wonder where Ontario is in this whole business???

I think Ken Daniels purchased Queen from Servotronics and Servotronics kept Ontario.

One thing I've never fully understood was the relationship between Queen/Schatt & Morgan and Ontario knives.

Back in July 2010 I bought a Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe knife. It had many issues and I called Jennie Moore and she said to send it in for repair. I did and time went on and on. I called Jennie to see what the problem was and she was a bit rude and put me off.

Someone mentioned that I ought to contact Ontario Knives and talk to Diane Stanbro, which I did. A couple days later I got a call from Jennie saying they were working on my knife and she didn't sound like she was pleased about it. I then got an e-mail from Diane Stanbro as follows:

"I apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
Regards,
Diane Stanbro

A few days later I received my knife all fixed up and beautified.

The part I don't understand is why did Jennie Moore at Queen/S&M answer to Diane Stanbro at Ontario?

Diane was always the person I corresponded with for repairs and warranties
And she was very efficient
It was never Jennie

If there is no future for Queen then I can't help wondering why they keep attending knife shows? Is it simply because they still have some knives to sell?
I just noticed on Queen Cutlery home page that there are no future knife shows listed, as there were previously under the announcement. Perhaps they attended shows that were already booked and had booths paid for? A lot of stuff goes on at shows, not just selling, but vendors often catch up with old acquaintances and connections...

If they aren't able to make a comeback, I wonder what will happen with the tooling, machines, and unfinished parts. In the past we saw aftermarket built Camillus knives hit the market, AG Russel had knives built from long defunct companies leftover parts, etc. What about intellectual property? All of these things are probably going to be sold, auctioned, however these things are worked out. Where will these things pop up? Will there be information beforehand if such a sale is going to happen, or do these things happen by private invite? I really don't know much about how these things play out, and am speaking merely on curiosity.

Since they've filed under bankruptcy laws, if they can't work out an agreement the court will order a sale of assets which will go to creditors in some order and percentage.

It REALLY will be a shame IF this is the end of Queen.......:(
I'm VERY grateful to have been able to tour the factory last year at their show and take some pictures of the inner workings and the building......SO much history there........

By no means exhaustive research (because I don't know exactly what the entity legal names involved are), but some initial federal docket searches show no filings of an actual bankruptcy case.

No I didn't talk with Ken. I did overhear him telling someone about the problems with a female in the company.
I assume that is what several posters have been mentioned.
I heard it from a prominent knife guy that is a wholesaler and deals in countless brands including Queen, that Queen wouldn't reopen and if we ever saw any more that they would probably be from China.
He was set up right across from Ken.
He also had a large box of assorted Queen, Schatt & Morgan and Moore Maker knives that appeared to be seconds, for $25 each. He said those were some of the last knives to come out of the factory. I figure that he probably purchased those from Mr. Daniels.
I picked out 4 of those for myself ( hard to pass up a bargain lol ).

Telling potential buyers ya better buy your Queens now, since there won't be any more, sounds like good ole US smart salesmanship. Particularly if you are selling seconds.

I hear you lol, but trust me this guy acts like he could care less if you bought anything from him or not.
I’ve bought several knives from him and he is very firm on prices. Won’t budge, but has some really good knives at good prices.

Had another check and it looks like DFC has now filed, as of the end of March. Western District of PA, Erie Division, Case No. 18-10250.
Chapter 7 = liquidation only. :(:poop:

Glad I got a Queen but it was an old stock and sadly from the sounds of it the old stock is all that is worth picking up so even discounts on their current stock wouldn't be of much interest.

I Have Just Returned From The Oregon Knife Association show in eugene. fabulous show! everyone was looking for mint Queen knives in the box- recent production, prices up about 20 -30 % above average for those knives! I see a little of that already on-line.

Thanks for searching the docket and posting this - I was afraid to look, expecting it but hoping they would reorganize and reopen. I posted earlier in this thread somewhere (I think) of Ken Daniels (is Ken the older one?) giving pocket knives to kids, for a penny, at the defunct for a year of so "Knife Days" show, used to be held in Wilmington, OH, twice a year. The kids would be so excited, he would get a kick out of talking to them, and their parents or grandparents, and he was always good natured and plesant when I spoke with him. Mr. Risner was also at that show, another fine gentleman. Anyway I wish Mr. Daniels and all the former Queen employees the best and hope this goes as easy as possible on all of them.

I've written earlier in this thread that I sent a trapper in for repair in November. They mailed back a letter saying they got it and will take up to x weeks. In December they closed up shop.
Where is my knife? How do I get it back? I've emailed with no response.
