That is a beautiful edge on there now though. D2 rocks for a slicer.

To Jake, that makes perfect sense and another great eye opening thought.
 
I look at it this way: I have bought a lot of used knives as a collector/accumulator. Many many examples were used till dull, then put away or sold by the original owners. A good portion of the population has no idea how to properly sharpen a knife, let alone deal with a dull piece of D2, or ATS34. The last two queen made products I purchased: DB Barlow, and S&M Sowbelly Trapper, came through with blunt edges...If I were a "non knife nut" I would have been gravely disappointed to say the least. If I had purchased these as gift items, they would have been returned.
At the price point of these products they should be a functional tool right out of the box.
 
You know what?..I think the ownership is really cool news - for us, I cant wait.
Congrats to everyone who has literally stuck their necks out and purchased this Great Company, to anyone who does this-truly deserves the best, and I hope that we all give them this. I just bought a couple of Vintage Winterbottom knives, and eagerly await their arrival.
 
I've had the pleasure of dealing with Ryan and his wife at shows and hope he can make it to the Chesapeake show this December as a dealer. I am confident that he and his father will do a great job. I've gotten a few Queens in the past couple months. Two were new, a Queen utility single blade trapper and a cattle king. The cattle king came pretty sharp, but the utility needed to be resharpened out of the box.
 
Personally, I love the D2 that Queen uses, and I hope to see it continue! :thumbup: :thumbup:
 
The main thing I take out of this is hope for a more consistent quality product in the future. We're all going to wonder when it will happen and how it will happen, but the tangible sense that now it can happen is what's most encouraging. That feeling didn't exist to me for several years and now it does.
 
Another thing that's going to be interesting is: I wonder if any former Queen employees that went over to GEC will now return to Queen under it's new ownership. Could go either way as Jennie Moore has not only remained at Queen but has been promoted to President of Queen Cutlery as well.

Make that 65 HRC, and I'll agree with you. The thin grind and hardness bring out the best in 1095, IMO. Having said that, I own over a dozen Queens in D2, and they all have excellent heat treat!
 
The game is afoot! :D Will be very interested to see where this goes.

To be honest I have never used a knife at that level of hardness in 1095. No idea what it would be like.

Either way, you have a company making knives in the US. I will buy a couple just to support but I will buy a couple more it is 1095 :)

I saw it too Jake, it's a holding page that GoDaddy uses when site owners are updating their real pages. GoDaddy has a bunch of other clever ones too.
 
Funny. I haven't looked at this thread because I thought someone finally decided to buy a Queen knife... what's the big deal? Haha... but yeah, very good news. I was at the factory sometime in July and thought it and the entire town was just delightful. Would love to live up there when I retire, maybe I can sweep the floors... So happy to see someone take on the company and try to turn it around before it's too late. It's a lovely old building and I'd really love to buy a few of their knives. When I was there and got to handle a few I was immediately turned off by them- the GEC's just down the road were so much better. But I own a few Queen's and they're nice. I hope to buy a few more in the future. A little friendly competition is a good thing, I think. Seems to work well with Nikon and Canon...
 
Jake, Ken Daniels is the "smoothie" on the left, but no idea who is the gent on the right. It's not Ken's son Ryan.
 
I think the the guy on the right is the outgoing president.
The deal was sealed last week tuesday.
I am visiting my brother, only two hours drive from Queen and Great Eastern. I went down to GEC on business yesterday, and stopped in at Queen to congratulate Jennie in person! She told me Servotronics (sp?) came in and laid off everyone to release liability. Queen hired them all back Monday, with a RAISE which they hadn't seen in 6 years!! BIG morale boost!! The maintenance people are fixing all kinds of stuff that has needed it for years, and Ken has brought in some much needed equipment.
It all bodes well!!

As a knife user, I agree with you. But as a guy who is hoping the best for an American company, they need to correct this easily correctable matter. Either that or put a little flier in with each knife that explains that it's butter-knife dull so that you can put your own preferred edge on it.
