Queen purchase finalized!

She told me Servotronics (sp?) came in and laid off everyone to release liability. Queen hired them all back Monday, with a RAISE which they hadn't seen in 6 years!! BIG morale boost!! The maintenance people are fixing all kinds of stuff that has needed it for years, and Ken has brought in some much needed equipment.
It all bodes well!!

That's a very good report.

However, if they really did hire everybody back?

Hopefully the "morale boost" will lead to sharpened knives.... :p

I think the the guy on the right is the outgoing president.
The deal was sealed last week tuesday.
I am visiting my brother, only two hours drive from Queen and Great Eastern. I went down to GEC on business yesterday, and stopped in at Queen to congratulate Jennie in person! Now that's the kind of story I love to hear

Guess I better start saving now, I haven't bought a Schatt or Queen in weeks :D

I know they weren't really popular but I love the birds eye maple handles. The dogleg jack I received earlier this month is excellent, and the BEM whittler I got earlier this year is nice too.

What's interesting is Servotronics is still holding on to Ontario Cutlery and more importantly no mention of Robeson Cutlery which they also own and only licensed right to...

I bought my kids grandpa a birds eye hoof pick knife a few years ago and really liked the scales on it. One knife that is on my 'someday list' is their muskrat with clip and Spey blades- I don't own a muskrat, and once Mike was unable to continue shipping to Canada it fell off of my radar a bit, mostly because every Queen I have bought/received has needed a full movie worth of time to get an edge on them with diamond stones, and like others that has turned me off- especially dealing with trappers and skinners like a muskrat- knives that should be designed for more pure slicing IMO. I understand tweaking the edge to your specifications, but hours of sharpening should be your choice, not a requirement.

I wish the new owners continued success and hopefully they maintain a presence on this forum and respond to customer feedback, especially now that they will be on my radar again.

It does indeed. THANKS for that info. Made my evening!

So, today I "casually" stepped into this (yes, yes, I know it happens to you guys as well, websites of knifemaking companies opening on their own on my computer...) and I thought it would be good to post it:

It's not really my cup of tea, but either way I think it's some sort of "restart" sign. At least I like to think that way.

The ad people need to go back to grade school.
And cutlery school!!
And why 420 stainless on their maiden voyage??

Time for a rewind!!! And for Queen to tune in to what is REALLY happening in the cutlery industry.
Heck, for a small fee, any of 100 people on this forum could advise them!!

I wouldn't be too hard on them yet Charlie, who knows what kind of materials were left for them, probably just using up some in stock inventory to help cover salaries until they can get up to speed, it aint cheap running a shop that size.

There are a few other errors on the site: "a abalone", "its etched". The knife looks pretty but 420....maybe it's the same stainless they use for the S&M line?

I'm also not seeing the coping blade in the picture, I see 2 clip blades and a pen.

Haha not sure what a copping blade is either. Makes it even worse that the knife doesn't even have a coping blade.

Also, perhaps they should have wiped off the knife before taking photos for the website...the big fingerprint on the right bolster is quite glaring.

Well, I've been quite happy with all my recent Queen purchases, especially considering the reasonable prices. Much better than the Case knives from 2-3-ish years ago.

My one selfish wish for the 'new' Queen Cutlery is that they continue the annual Heritage series.

Wow, that ad is really sad. I sure hope that's no indication of things to come. It would be a shame...

Obviously a copping blade is the small tanto-clip hybrid used to annoy cops.

Lolz.

That could be a fault of whoever did the photo cutout. They may have cropped the source image oddly.

But yeah...hmmm...interesting? Guess we'll see what's to come but that's kind of an awkward knife to launch the "dawn of a new era."

This is just conjecture mind you, but I would expect an improvement in quality, with a changeover. Ken Daniels knows quality, and knows what sells - in other words, what we the consumers like to consume! He's going to have to re-organize, and it may take a while, because "stagnation" which I think has been happening, takes some effort, and trial and error, to clean up.
Ken may be the guy for the job - we will see something happen - I hope it is for the good.
Queen was run from a distant corporate office, not ideal!! It drove out their best knife designer, who now owns Great Eastern! We all have had the pleasure of watching Great Eastern improve with its growing pains and successes.
As a consequence, not only will Queen have to be good, but it will have to measure up to Great Eastern's ummmm . . . .greatness!!!:D

I was going to ask the question "what happens to a company that makes it fall down like this?" I think you answered it already just here. Distant and corporate.

I thought that looked like a Schatt stamp on the main and a Queen stamp on the secondary. A lot of my Schatt's and Queen made Colonel Coon's have 420HC blades too.
Queen does nice pearl, I'd like to know more.
