Question about what to do with some old knives

So where do I go now to discuss their value? Which forum? There's so much to read... I'm getting overwhelmed. Is it only in the exchange forum that these types of discussions can happen? I read it said no auction type sales... or links to Ebay. But is it allowed to ask for privately emailed 'best offers'? Please delete this post if this is not a question I can ask.

That quote about 1933 was poorly stated by me - sorry! It came direct from Bernie Levine's Guide, and I am sure meant last used by the earlier owner.
I'll go back and look!

No not at all Charlie, entirely my fault for not comprehending your words properly :) PS Because the stamp is quite thick and heavy does that not indicate a still fairly early knife though? Someone was suggesting the 70's even but surely not?

I think you could start a thread in the Levine forum to get pricing or just shoot for the moon and post in the exchange with a fair price and see what happens.
I know I'd like one but probably wouldn't want to offer enough to be fair. I'd want to use it so that's a bit different.

Good luck on your sale, welcome to Bladeforums and it's nice to "meet" you.

Thanks Neko2 :) Wouldn't know where to start re 'fair price'... I have not a clue. Hence need to 'discuss' it I think. I shall check out the Levine forum but am due to pick the kids up from school shortly (and a cat from the vet lol). Nice to 'meet' you too :)

Nice find, I don't think you've struck gold however I could be mistaken.. I did a Google search for the keyword "C+X Lockwood Brothers Sheffield", and not much info came back a little chatting on britishblades.com but none that I could find about your specific knives. Searching completed auction site listings revealed other models going for $20-50, but again I didn't find anything regarding your model so.. fwiw.

I might have missed some editorial goings on.
I apologise for perhaps suggesting you name a price?
That was not my motivation. My question was aimed at suggesting that you have in your possession knives that might command a great deal of interest from the forum muchachos.:D.......and they have.
Jigging can be done by hand but mostly it is a mechanised process. Unusal on stag antler because it is used for its individualty and nuances of texture and profile.
Your knives I'm thinking were made with big fat 1970s stag and to make them look uniform was jigged. At a glance. That would be simply because it was much more widely available in England then than it is now. Nowadays it would more likely be found on custom handmade knives. Even on factory produced knives it commands a higher price. Old stag is sought after especially in such good nick as I see on yours. Im tipping you have been contacted already. Thats good. A win win imo.

Thanks for the interesting info on the bone handles. The handles on these are in great nick from what I can tell. No cracks (on this lot pictured anyway). Of all the knives we have, there is only 1 knife with a crack in the stag handle.

I shall check out the Levine forum

If you ask one of our mods, they may be willing to move this thread to the Levine forum for you.

However, if you continue posting like this (below), there or here, I think you're risking an infraction.

Yes I've so far had (what seems to me) a very good offer, but couldn't accept it as it was for the ones on Ebay which I can't pull off according to the rules. There are other boxes though... so still open to great offers :)

You've had a lot of help from members here Iris, please don't turn our sub-forum into a market-place.

I have consulted my olde and veritable 5th edition of Levines-don't worry I wore my fez and used a page turner. After I had blown a thick cloud of dust and spider webs from its hallowed cover I settled down in "the study" ;) and discovered this interesting factoid.

"JIGGED BONE or BONE STAG(called STAG in most knife catalogues):mechanically gouged bone ,or sometimes second cut stag, that is usually dyed (often with potassium permanganate) to resemble genuine stag."

it goes on but the point of interest alludes to my earlier observation about unusual jigged stag antler.
Levine discerns between this and
"GENUINE STAG: outside cut ("bark") of deer or similar antler,"

So even though it states STAG on your box of knives they could very possibly be bone-which is different -just as nice really but different and therefore... :(;) Hard to tell from mere photos.
Food for thought.

Jacks comment above is very close to my heart as well which is why I PMd you with those other thoughts .

To be honest there's only so much tippy toeing around the forbidden question that can be done -even with my mystical and yet frustratingly vague abilities.

Good work, Meako! I agree the handles are jigged bone, commonly called "Stag" in the trade years ago, as opposed to "genuine stag " which is of course, antler.
I must obtain a mystical Fez!!

Thanks Meako, that is super interesting!!!
Although I'm a bit disappointed they're not stag though lol... seems more elegant somehow...?
Haha...
PS I'm going to stop posting now I think, as no matter what, I seem to still be making mistakes. I thought the membership would make things easier and less confusing. I'm more confused than ever.
I'm just going to put it out into the universe for a bit and hope for the best :)
Cheers, Iris

Thanks Charlie,
I have replied... I think... but it's not showing in my sent items... so can't be sure

Take some time to read the forum guidelines, and all will be revealed Iris

We want the forum to focus upon the discussion of traditional knives...not the purchasing process, prices nor vendors and their websites.

Per the rules of the exchange and in furtherance of curtailing potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. Even with that caveat, the Traditional forum is probably not the proper venue for such questions and such threads may be moved to a more appropriate area of the site.

Members may not post links or offer their own personal knives for sale within forum threads.
Please do not post reviews or discussions within the forum solely to shill knives for sale or trade elsewhere on the site (or in immediate advance of their being listed).
We don't want to see the forum become an extension of the "Exchange". In line with this, please do not make public offers or inquire as to the availability of another member's knife which has been posted within our threads.

This sub-forum is intended to be non-commercial in nature and we intend to keep it that way for the benefit of the community.

Iris,
You have to go to your profile/settings and check the box for 'save a copy of sent PMs'.
If I may ask, How many boxes did you find?

Iris nobody knows the answer to the million dollar question oop I mean the forbidden question that must never be spake ...., sought ...spooked..., asked.
The answer is..(lightning strike...frazzle.....fry....crackle.....smoulder.)

Sorry JB I think I might have created a confusion . Apologies....although
Like most kiwis she needs help:D

Is there nothing about Kiwi-bashing in those guidelines?! ;) :D

Thanks Jack, I've been trying to read the rules but there's so much to read and trying to figure out if I've replied to everyone is taking up a lot of time too :) your comment above is really helpful though thanks!
