man am i jealous. how does the 0551 compare to the 0561 is slicyness. I know the military is slicier but is the 0561 better than the 0551?
 
Yeah it is, I would say its about half way between the 2. It's pretty amazing though.

Just tried getting a good pic of the edges for comparison but couldn't

So, I have been looking at Nessmuk style blades, and I see how popular they seem to be, but I have never handled or used one to my recollection. I figured I might try one out, anybody have a brand/model suggestion? In a half-way reasonble price range...say under 100$ or close to that. I see Condor has a Nessie for ~35$

Might as well try one, I dont care for the looks, but as much as people like them they have to have something going for them.

intriguing....I may be able to make a Nessmuk out of a properly shaped Ol' Hickory....Would be a cheap and easy way to try the blade-style out.

Here's one I modded up about twenty years ago. Carried it for a long time now it works in the shop (hence the overspray on it). It's an interesting knife pattern, great skinners.
