Just got back from my middle nephew's last Band concert before he Graduates H.S.

He plays a pretty mean bass if I say so myself.

I'm fixing to go look in the kitchen drawers to see what kinda butcher knives I got in there to sacrifice for a Nessie LOL

Just slappin the bass man.

I'd go with Case for sure Queen is very hit or miss and their CS sucks.

Damn, I'm wore out. Piano recital at 5:30, ballgame at 6:45. Just got home. trade, that's a gorgeous sunset.

Yep. Grew up there, hiked and camped all over it. Kay and I lived smack in the middle of it for four years.

That's cool.
The reason I ask is because I'm transferring to Carbondale in the fall to do their forestry program. Plan to spend as much time there as possible and just wondered if it was a cool place to explore. All the pictures I've seen are beautiful but I haven't made it down there yet.

The Carbondale/Marion area is a pretty area. Giant City State Park, Shawnee National Forest, etc., beautiful places. My son used to live in Benton. Went down to that area quite a bit.

I'm about an hour away from there. Would be glad to hook you up on some of the lesser known but fabulous spots.

I need to reprofile a little double bit hatchet. So I was looking at those Gransfors Bruk puck stones. Sticker shock ensued. $50+.
Couple of hours later, I walked into the knife section at local chain sporting goods store (rhymes with "the lad in me") and found the Lansky "The Puck" for $7.99. Bingo. That's more my speed.

trade can also show you the blood splatter spots you should avoid.

1911 fans, what are your thoughts on the best bang for one's buck 1911 clone?

What's your budget? Currently, I think the best for the money is the Springfield Range Officer, but it might not be in the price range you're looking. Cheapest reliable 1911 I'd go with is a basic RIA.

I had a dream where someone gave me a set of scales very simmilar to the ones Captain Airyca has for her BK-9... Weird much?

Willing to go up to a grand with a nice trigger. What's street price for the Officer?

+1 for the RIA.

I've had mine for about six years now, and it works just as well or better than my Colts. The pistol is fit together better than my Colts, too. Very good slide to frame fit. The only problem I had with it is the same problem I have with all spur hammer 1911's--the hammer chews up the web of my hand. But that was an easy fix.

The RIA Tactical has everything you need in a 1911 for just a little more $$. And Armscor has a hell of a reputation for backing up their guns. They'll fix your problems in a jiffy.

Another 1911 that have a good rep are the ATI guns. A couple of guys I know swear by them. I like how they are set up and would dearly love one, but I've already got 4 1911's that I never shoot or carry, so I haven't bought one yet. The nice thing about them is that they also come with everything you need and nothing you don't.

Here's a good pic of one by the very prolific blogger, the Mad Ogre.

those are cewl. i can't remember how many axes i've fixed in the last 10 years.

my first 20 years? i had no idea how to use a stone. nobody in my family tree had a clue. old knowledge lost. regained.

there are days i wish i had kids, to teach, but you know, i have the internet ;) so do they ;)

what i really am sad about, is having forebears that didn't teach me enough, that i had to waste time FIGURING IT OUT. oh well :)

Thanks for the 1911 tips, folks. I'll check out teh googles tom find out more on those brands.
