I hesitate calling anything a grail until it's proven to be just that. (I have a handful of knives by makers I admire which could each be considered a grail, but that would sort of make the term meaningless, or render it temporary.)

And your joy at my lack is offensive and off-putting...and very, very hurtful. 🤣
I'm disappointed that my attempt at a Monty Python reference didn't land.

As far as that goes, the water is deep enough to prevent that.

One of the camping trips we went on in the Boy Scouts, we were camped right by a stream for 5 days. We ended up using rocks to dam the stream (which we took apart before we left), so the water was about shin deep (maybe knee deep at the deepest parts), and took to having a daily 'touch football' game in the water.

When we discovered that being tackled and falling in shin deep water didn't really hurt (no dogpiling), it rapidly became a little more than 'touch football' 😂
When I crashed wakeboarding it’s felt like I went about 6 feet under. And it was face first. Lol. I will have to take your word for it.

I'm disappointed that the boot, (anti-personnel / bad dog), dagger didn't place higher.

I guess I'll have to continue to use the DEK1.

(These are the times that try men's souls. 😂 )

I'm one of those law-abiding citizens who's the most impacted by regulatory measures, so while I'd find it fun to have one, I can't justify its use or carry. (Still, it ranked 4th on my list 😁)

(I will admit that I've checked the law here in my state and I qualify for an exemption. Not saying it's just or fair, simply that I qualify.)

I kid, of course. 😁

It's been some time since I worked for my local Sheriff's Office and I can't recall if we would have been granted exemptions for such blades or not (edited to add - moot point, perhaps, based on the following). Oregon knife laws are pretty lax and are enforced largely via case law. Some of the hard and fast rules have to do with concealment and intent though. No restrictions on ownership of any kind of knife, just on concealment so I suppose I would be fine open carrying a dagger - but that appeals to me just about as much as open carrying a firearm (not at all).

RIP d2 Skinners?
Speaking of D2...years ago on another forum, Bob Dozier made this prototype (blade) and let several of us have some time with it. It was his first convex ground edge as he is, or at least was, an adherent of V grinds. He was actually impressed with the result and no longer disrespected convex edges.

Bob called me up and told me to keep the blade, and I had a handle and sheath made for it by two friends from that particular forum who lived in western NY. The handle is every bit as good as those CPK builds...and I do not say that lightly. Ergos are amazing.

It's just a great knife in Bob's D2.

“Surprisingly little love for the Field Knives.”

Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist just wanted to say in response to your mention above…

At least in my case, and I would think many others as well, that one has been offered in abundance relatively recently. It’s the model I personally have the most copies of, so least needed in terms of a re-release. It’s one of my favorites ever and was the gateway drug here.

The chance to get some of the unobtanium models is what dominated your top 4 poll. Even if it was a “list your top 4 favorite CPK models” poll…ugh. That’s really hard to do without some use context.
I'd say that's a pretty good assessment/summary.

D2 doesn't rust like crazy if given the low temp tweak. Also it has WAY better edge stability. D2, given the industry standard heat treat is pretty terrible. And I think that's probably what they're looking at. Knuckleheads.

Since Nathan was nice enough to allow folks to change their votes, it's possible for folks to pick their battles;

Eg. The Shiv appears to have a good lead as the 1st pick. All the folks who voted for 'Shiv' on the "2nd choice", could just roll with the trend on 1st and switch to that for 1st choice, then switch their votes for 2nd to something else.

Much as I'd like a Boot Dagger, it looked like a wasted vote for 1 or 2, but has a shot for 3.

For 2, I picked Skinner and Potato Knife (the PK being the one I could/would use year round between the 2).

I mean. I didn't read the thread. But there's a bunch of people who think they don't like D2 because they're ignorant.

I also don't use D2 much anymore. For the same reason. Fantastic steel but nobody wants to buy it.
I ❤️ D2...your's and Bob's at least😉
