Not a native (originally from Maine) but I've spent most of my life in Oregon. And yes, the state gets better and better the further you stray from the I-5 corridor 😁.
I loved living in Portland. It’s a great city. The food and beer are amazing, plentiful and local.
Having grown up in a brand/chain city it was really refreshing.
I also loved heading in any direction every weekend to hike. Being close to the mountain in the winter and to the coast the rest of the year. I get that Portland (the people) is too weird for some but as far as cities go - it’s a good one.

How long has it been since you have been to Portland? It's currently... not great.

I haven’t lived there since 2006, but I still have a lot of friends living there.
Maybe just a matter of perspective or relativity. When I lived there and guys I worked with (construction) would ask what part of town I lived in, Northeast Portland, they would always respond surprised with “Wow, you’re in the ghetto.” I would laugh. Portlands ghetto was like any working class urban neighborhood in every city I’ve ever been in.
Of course I’ve spent time in illustrious cities such as Los Angeles, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago… Portland seemed nice.
Definitely the best beer/brewfest I’ve been to. Yoko would love it.

Admittedly, I am a bit of a country bumpkin and I don't care for large urban centers - as such, I have a hefty bias. That said, I tend to avoid Portland even more than I used to, it just isn't the same place. I'd argue that whatever charm it once had has long been buried under the mountains of garbage, tarp villages, boarded up shops, and the steady exodus of business owners.

Still, PNW beer is amongst the best in the nation, if not the world. The water here is amazing and it translates to exceptional beer.

For all my animus towards Portland, I head up there on Sunday to go see the Scorpions in concert. 🤘

That's a fair point. I remember driving through a neighborhood in Philadelphia once and being rather shocked to see buildings that were literally crumbling and falling apart - and people, kids even, were still living in them.

Should've seen Detroit a few years ago....

That was crazy to witness how bad it actually got at one point

I did when I was truck driving. I started crying and had to pull into a parking lot of a ghost town shopping center because I couldn't see very well. It was so sad seeing them closed down and dilapidated, one after another, after another, etc...

Yea it looked like a war zone... when I was younger I had family and friends that lived there so I visited a good bit

I will say they're doing a good job building back up

I first posted this to the wrong thread in response to guys sitting the fence on whether or not they should get a Shiv2 .........

If you can some how manage to justify the expenditure, no matter how silly it seems, I would encourage you to seriously try and make a Shiv2 purchase happen. Something wicked this way comes, and it likely will never come this way again.

Plus, I need 300 of these to sell before next Friday cuz I made a bet I really don't want to have to pay out on, so help a brother out and buy as many as you can between now and then!

I am willing to cover your bet in your favor by helping out by 1% if someone convinces Nathan to offer latitudinal satin finish in addition to acid wash. This is no knock on Mark who normally does the excellent longitudinal grinds but with the fuller implementation, I'm just not sure about vertical to the edge satin finish. I'm gonna throw a number out there for this extra option to see if Nathan bites: 2fiddy?
