This is an Alessi Espresso maker exhibited in the MOMA, as a perfect design combining form and function (performance).
Or like this sleek looking urinal. The ultimate in low/no splash back design.

Just drawing fire for you after that cappuccino comparison.

At a certain point “decoration” (especially when it’s essentially commodity material like bulk produced Timascus or random pattern Damascus) isn’t that interesting and design and performance are far more so.
I've got nothing against makers whose focus is aesthetics. There are a lot of them that I genuinely consider 'works of art'.

I just prefer knives/choppers meant for use, to focus on the performance aspects, vs supposedly functional knives that focus more on looking cool, or sharpened prybars made for the sole purpose of being able to claim that they're 'tough/unbreakable'.

I agree with you on the performance aspect, but that's not all for me. I love CPK ergonomics and also aesthetics in how they reflect function of a given fixed blade. E.g., clearly a lot of thought was put into the scales, going with Mashed Cat sheaths was brilliant, etc.

This is what CPKs are for me. I have a couple of AEB-L CPKs and I like them just as much as my D3V knives.

Roland.
Don't disagree. The ergonomics are yet another facet of their performance oriented focus, like their FK2 handles improving on the OG FK on how much more comfortable they are when applying more pressure.

Not saying that their knives are ugly, because there's already a beauty, simply in functionality, and CPK's focus on fit and finish is fantastic (which, while it affects aesthetics, is yet another facet of performance). What I meant was that some folks reasoning on whether the price of a knife is expensive, or decent for what you get, hinges on things that have no bearing on the knife's abilities to perform as a knife.

Truly amazing to see Nathan’s HT creation compared to those first chipped blades he showed not long ago. It is so appreciated that someone would go through such tedious, frustrating, time consuming, and costly testing in order to make a product better than most folks would ever need it to be. Very cool.
Well said - this is why I buy CPK and basically only CPK these days

My apologies timmy ..... sometimes even though I like watching documentaries...

the calming voice narrating the possible extinction of an advanced ancient civilization we do not know about puts me down like a baby......
