Random Thought Thread

That’s after seeing the exchange this am.

Although having some fun in here on that subject, it doesn't bother me as much as it may bother some or perhaps mostly the Maker. Certainly some self interest and subjectiveness is always mixed in with anyone's POV but even if I was being purely objective based on what else is readily available for sale (IMHO) not even in the same mold as Nathan's Shivs / UFs, I've come to the conclusion that those now retired patterns are worth at least by a factor of 2 x as compared to their original prices and even more if a rarer and more collectible iteration with fancy-schmancy handles. JMHO.

Sure, I can see wood, one-offs etc being a solid double the original asking price in particular after they have changed hands a couple times.

3-4 x original price? No. IMO a Shiv isn’t a ~$1000 knife and I doubt there are many buyers, if any in that range.

Glad I'm not the only one who almost choked when I saw that price.

The market will determine the selling price. Or vice versa.

What was the original price btw?

I don't know what the original price was, but it makes no difference. If someone wants something bad enough and can afford it, they will buy it. More money than brains? Look at what some watches sell for.

Someone needs to post a picture of Edward Shiverhands. He’s a guy with a bunch of shivs instead of fingers.

Oh yeah, it stings a lot less than many other products and works fast. Love it!!

I have the green puck kickin’ around here too.
Would you recommend one over the other between Skinfix and O'Keeffe's? And any particular version of Skinfix? It appears they have a few.

One single instance of working for a couple of hours on metal parts with metal tools with no gloves on in -12f to -14f temps many years ago, seems to have lowered my hands' ability to withstand the cold.

Ever since then, it appears I'm more susceptible to dry, cracked skin between my knuckles if my hands are exposed to cold winter air for too long.

I've never tried either of those products, but when my hands were raw, cracked and chapped and nothing seemed to work (tried moisturizer, Neosporin, Vaseline), I tried all the skin ointments on the shelf at the pharmacy that mentioned "dry, cracked skin", and for some reason, Psoriasin ended up working for me.

Over the years, when I've been dumb enough to expose my hands to the winter cold for too long, I've actually tried using different things on each hand when they've gotten like that, and the Psoriasin has been the one effective thing thus far. Relief within 2-3 days. Healed in 5-7 days. I wouldn't mind trying something else though.

I use a homemade salve on my hands, shea butter base with lavender, sandalwood, rose hip seed, tamanu, kukui, and I don't remember what all else oils, and a little beeswax. Excellent stuff, if I do say so myself :cool:
