I'm all outta beer for this Friday's eve :(

Luckily the nearest Albertsons is considered a light promenade, albeit on foot :D

Was anyone else hoping for a "Super Sneaky Secret Sale" today?

I was really wanting to see these guys rear their ugly heads today:

Wow those just look awesome !

Well, good news/bad news. Turns out I don't have to worry about missing the Oregon Blade Show :):(

There are still silver linings, even if you don't get into the PhD program you wanted.
Sorry to hear that! Things usually happen for a reason. Now you'll probably get to go to blade west and get in to a stellar program elsewhere.
Good luck!

Disappointing knives.

I’m sure we’ve all been there. You get a knife you were really looking forward to. And for one reason or the other, it’s a massive disappointment.

I’m never disappointed when a knife just isn’t for me but it’s what it should be.

But what about when a knife has a loose fastener, poor mechanical function or something similar you don’t accept in the price point that you paid.

Sigh.

I’m with you man. I was massively disappointed by an axe I just bought. Swiss 86 axe ugh it is so lopsided it’s like it was melty taffy and they laid it on its side, even if I file down a completely new blade, the eye of it is off center. It’s like they talk about symmetry being a metric of beauty... this thing made me gag, it looks like a melting clock painting. I hate it, so disappointed, but I’m keeping it for sure. To fuel my daily rage.

Yeah that is pretty disappointing.

(clip) I would like $2,075 for it, but will take $275

I had to laugh at this. On a certain auction site, I saw a knife by a famous blade smith. In the picture, the original price tag was plainly showing $2300. The asking price was $8700.
No takers, so it was lowered to $4700, IIRC. Still no takers. The last time I looked it was at $2700. Still no takers.

I have a lot of ammo that I am thinking of selling. I would like to get good prices for it, but I know that ain't gonna happen. :(

Thinking about knives at work!

That triggered a memory. When I was a Cub Scout (Late 1940s) we went to a steel mill in Fontana, CA. I don't remember which one. The thing that sticks in my mind was the lathe that turned the rolls for making sheet steel. The thing was YUGE! The man that was taking us around told us that it took over a week to finish turning the roller. The cut was about 1/2" and one pass would take most of the night.

I suggest beating it against trees until it breaks

Hi UffDa , Good call. Few people
see what you described.
It's impressive for sure.
The rolls I grind are for an aluminum rolling mill,(sheet),(coil). The one in pic is a 5000lb. work roll. The largest rolls I grind are around 40 tons.
Most often, I remove a minimum of .003"stock with a (+ or -).0002" taper tolerance for the one shown.
Also a crown height at .0015".
(+ or -) .0002".
Roughness average varies,
20 -23ra.
Grinding wheel here is 30"x3".
The look of the finished roll is what the aluminum will also look.
Its a very challenging job.
I operate 6 different rollgrinding
Machines,some being cnc.

Yeah, those were the good old days. We also had a tour of the Cudahy Meat Packing company in Los Angeles. It was pretty gross. I remember going into the room where they made hot dogs. They had a guy with a garden hoe mixing meat mush in a wooden tray like they used to use to mix concrete. Then he used an ordinary shovel to put the mush in the sausage stuffing machine. YUCK! We all said that we would never eat hot dogs again. As we left the plant to get on the bus, we were handed a cooked but cold hot dog which we munched on as we got on the bus. :D

No OSHA. No food cops. We didn't die.....at least most of us.
