< The dim lighting makes it hard to discern but if you look very closely just off the center slightly to the right of the middle axis (your nose) you will see a ridge on the horizon which is an island known as the San Clemente Island. This island belongs to the U.S. Navy and that is where some of our top military and law enforcement service men and women train for gaining and maintaining some of their top skills. Lots of people mistake this for the Catalina Island which is much further to the north of San Diego county and that one is the famous tourist destination ;)

Here are a couple from the balcony two nights ago:

AND ABOUT 200 YARDS SOUTH, HERE'S WHERE ALL THE KIDS GET TO GO TO HIGH SCHOOL AND PLAY SPORTS, WITH ONLY A ROW OF TREES SEPARATING THEM FROM THE BEACH.

AND FINALLY, 59 MI SOUTH WHERE SATELLITES ARE LIFTED TO ORBIT AND ICBMS AND MINUTEMEN ARE FIRED OFF (this one I didn't take).

26 miles across the sea Santa Catalina is waiting for me. It's gonna wait a long time. Been there 3 times to help with the half marathon. That was enough. More than enough. Almost got run over by a golf cart.

Hope it wasn’t a runaway golf cart because that would’ve been quite uncivilized :D

Spent quite a few hours in the water at "the Rock and South Jetty" while at Cal Poly. Remember having to be careful of not stepping on the rays while wading out to the waves. Very fond memories. Pretty much the reason I choose Cal Poly! Mike

This, of course, will look quite familiar to you, Mike, just about 300 yards south of the high school shots (and the end of the travelog, lol):

Yeah, those were the good old days. We also had a tour of the Cudahy Meat Packing company in Los Angeles. It was pretty gross. I remember going into the room where they made hot dogs. They had a guy with a garden hoe mixing meat mush in a wooden tray like they used to use to mix concrete. Then he used an ordinary shovel to put the mush in the sausage stuffing machine. YUCK! We all said that we would never eat hot dogs again. As we left the plant to get on the bus, we were handed a cooked but cold hot dog which we munched on as we got on the bus. :D

No OSHA. No food cops. We didn't die.....at least most of us.
Wow,thats some history man.
Probably not much changed in the ingredients. I like the no food cops. lol

When I saw Gus's name as the poster in the WT / B / S / T thread I got super excited just in case the man had just come back from a drunken stupor perhaps selling a prized Carothers in his inebriated state of mind

Alas, no cigar this time but I'll be keeping an eye on Gus's tracks in an almost super creepy way :D

The sumps. Machine Tool sumps are filled with coolant and misery.

Whoever came up with hell being filled with fire and brimstone obviously never heard of an amalgam of way oil, micarta mud and steel fines. They look like little livers of sadness, smell bad and hurt.

I...don’t like the smell of metal. That electricity, kinda BO rust metal smell.

that's an awesome photo. very cool

I take virtually all my own images except for some pro knife images - but this one above just seemed fitting considering the comment above it about electicity. BUT this is not one I took myself, I must admit. Someone with skill way beyond mine took that beauty. But I sure agree with everyone, it's a way fine image, and it's a pic of my hometown.
