***sigh***

Can't win for losing. Was talking about the unseasonably warm weather. Well... that huge storm that passed through the Midwest into the Northeast cooled things down. The Western edge of the storm pulled down cooler air from the North, buuuut... that happens to be the air from the Canadian wildfires.

Parts of MI now currently have the worst air quality in the US. It's not as bad as what some states/cities experienced a few weeks ago (IIRC, the AQI Air Quality Index hit 400+ in some cities), but the nearby stations here are at 235. 😝

My dumbass didn't watch the news the last few days, and didn't realize that what looked like fog/mist early this morning, was smoke. Had a fan in one of the windows since it was nice and cool when I jumped in the shower. By the time I got out of the shower, I noticed one of the air filters built-in AQ monitors in the red.

PM2.5 was at 108 micrograms/cubic meter inside. PM10 @ 98 ug/m3 (where they're usually ~3-4 ug/m3) 😬

Ugh. Noticed the smell, and tickle in my throat/chest outside. Filters running nonstop (closed the windows when I realized), and it looks like PM2.5 and PM10 are still in the 20s - 30s. Not as bad, but still 5-10x normal.

I guess the weather is supposed to move this crap along some time tomorrow'ish (along with the heat coming right back) 😅 😓

Shoot, that’s just springtime here in SE TN.

J/K (sort of). We had some wild fires a few years ago and I ended up getting a couple of room air purifiers because there was no end in sight and we didn’t want our 2 year old to breath that crap.

I live in Utah. The geography here traps the smoke from any wildfires in AZ or CA. Not pleasant, but it probably won't kill me until I'm ready to go anyway. 😁

They're affordable and they're better than nothing. I hear they are reasonably reliable and probably fit the bill for a lot of folks. I personally like nicer firearms, but if I'm being honest, I don't think a firearm needs to be a "nice thing" to serve it's purpose. It is easy to spend five times that for an around the house and yard little gun like that, and some folks maybe don't want to allocate resources to that if not necessary.
