Saw a weird fireball looking thing hovering out over the ocean last night

It would start out dim a few moments and then become pretty bright and flicker for a few minutes and then dim and disappear for a few minutes and then it would come back again. This went on for about half an hour.

Any idea what this was?
it was cool.

Could have been this phenomenon over the ship?

I can understand the temptation. Two weeks ago at a week-long meeting I sat through about 45 40-minute presentations. A few times I was dying to grab the microphone and say "very interesting, but are these findings consistent with a FE model?"... after sitting still that long I was finding the idea hilarious.

I can't remember if I told this one or not...but back in the late 90's to 2000, when political correctness, diversity and "sensitivity" training was beginning to grab us by the throat, all of us agents were required to attend sensitivity training which was being presented by an employee or contractor out of HQ in D.C.

Not surprisingly, it was an African-American female dressed in West African garb who provided us with a lecture and slide show. (This was on day 1 of a two day affair.) I guess the presumption was that we in the field didn't have an opportunity to deal with all kinds of diversity and develop any sort of empathy.

Well, one of the slides the presenter cast upon the screen showed a caricature of a female in "Gypsy" garb looking into a crystal ball, divining the future.

I raised my hand and when called upon said in words to this effect, the following:

"Here you are telling us to be sensitive to others and not make presumptions based upon their outward appearance and yet you are displaying a "Gypsy" woman looking into a crystal ball and divining the future...and that's just wrong. They are not all fortune tellers."

The woman was aghast at her faux pas and stalled for time while apologizing for the oversight and promised to remove the offending slide from this and future presentations.

To which I followed up by saying "That's good...because they're not all fortune tellers. They're all thieves, but not necessarily prognosticators."

The class cracked up, the lecturer was mortified and I was summarily summoned to the Special Agent in Charge's office for a "meeting with the principal".

I was told I wouldn't need to attend the next day's session at which point I asked if I had gotten an "A". He told me not to push my luck and sent me on my way.

True story.

(For the record, I don't think they're all thieves or fortune tellers, but I'd had it up to here with, and found it insulting to have, people with no clue telling us how to have empathy and do our jobs correctly.)

I still suspect it was probably an oil rig past the horizon burning vented natural gas.

We need a Gypsy woman around here with a crystal ball ⚗️or some palm reading skills 🪬on Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist to tell us what “two weeks” really means. 🤨

In the meantime, I wish Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist and Jo the Machinist Jo the Machinist all the best on their much needed beach vacation. 🏄🏻‍♂️ 🌈
