I'm pretty sure there is no offshore oil production anywhere near the NC Outer Banks

Maybe it was one of those rarely seen in the wild Propane Whales blowing its spout.

Probably just one of their juveniles lighting farts.

It's pretty interesting. The most likely thing I've seen suggested is St. Elmo's fire, but it seemed pretty large in your picture. What a cool experience! It's fun to wonder about what it is. I'm curious if a very experienced sailor might not have more insight.

Based on the pic, it's too big, and high off the horizon to be St Elmo's fire, although there's also the possibility of refraction making things that are over the horizon visible.

Of course, nowadays, it's all UAPs/aliens 😁

Saw a weird fireball looking thing hovering out over the ocean last night

It would start out dim a few moments and then become pretty bright and flicker for a few minutes and then dim and disappear for a few minutes and then it would come back again. This went on for about half an hour.

Any idea what this was?
Maybe a moon rise, under varying cloud/fog conditions? - Unless it never moved.
The only other possible answer, would be one of the mysterious orbs, seen on the highly accurate and solid, scientifically backed TV show, “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch”. (🤣)

Wiped out a good sized buck the other night going around 65 - didn't even have time to brake. I think I'm more bummed about the deer than totaling my car...

In better news, I get to go pick up my new Colt on Saturday. New gun day doesn't come around nearly as frequently as new knife days so I am pretty excited.

Maybe it's Sarah Palin's porch light from her villa in Portugal ... can't you see her from there?

I'm glad you're okay !

Do they let you pull a salvage tag in Oregon like they do here? Or was he pretty much gone? Glad you’re ok, cars can be fixed. yoko yoko is pretty good I hear.

Thanks, fellas. Got away with a sore neck. They made it legal for folks to harvest roadkill here - just have to surrender antlers (if applicable) and fill out a permit after the fact. I wasn't able to get out of my car so I drove home, wormed my way out the passenger side and drove back in my pickup to check on the deer. I found pieces - I think someone tossed what they thought they could salvage in the back of their truck and took it home.

Damn , I'm suprised your vehicle still moved after a hit like that

And very happy your injuries are minimal
