Well I'll have a day or two off coming up..... sucks they'll be for jury duty lol

Who knows maybe I'll be a small part of helping society

We need grounded people that don't blindly follow on juries. I hope you get to serve!

Example:
I read an article about a male high school teacher that had sex with a 17 year old student. She had pursued him. He broke it off, left the school and moved. Somehow, unintentionally on the part of both parties, she ends up running into him and pursues him again. They end up having sex. Her parents find out and he fully cooperates with police.
It goes to trial. The girl flat out says she engaged and pursued. She said he didn't pressure or try to influence her into it. The only reason it was pursued was her parents.

Long story short, the jury found the guy not guilty. Their reasoning was that he already lost his job and can't work again in the career field. They couldn't see ruining his life for the next 10 years and labeling him a rapist when there wasn't any damage or abuse. One juror asked something like, "Who does it serve to imprison this man? How does it serve justice?"
Needless to say, the prosecution was pissed.

A different case here in Utah involved an attractive female teacher. Long long story short, she had sex with a 17 year old male student that was pursuing her. There was no coercion, no abuse of power, and he wasn't traumatized. She lost her job, husband (understandably), and went to prison.

Now look, I'm not saying what they did was right and I'm not advocating for adults to be allowed to have sexual relations with underage individuals.
I do believe we need to look at the spirit of the law and not just the letter of the law; the intent of the law matters. "Who does this serve?" And "How does this serve justice?" are questions we should be asking.

So, anytime you start feeling sorry for yourself, go pick out a cancer center and sit in the lobby doing a bit of people watching. Guaranteed to Straighten your shit right up.
Very true. Disease and trauma cross all social and economic lines.

Growing up in places where kids would watch people eating and fight over the scraps that were tossed aside on the ground kind of formed strong feelings in me about things. Being in one country when the dictator decided that all property within 50 meters of the ocean suddenly became the property of the government, and being in another during a coup were sobering as well. I used to exercise horses for a General who was promoted for killing 3 people in a restaurant talking about how bad the president was.

We take many things for granted because many have never really seen how bad things can be. I truly hate seeing how divisive the country is becoming.
