My view on this is quite controversial

It's really sad. It's really unfortunate. But I choose to put my head in the sand because

A: nothing is going to be done about it
B: nothing really can be done about it
C: there were probably about a hundred traffic fatalities yesterday also. (These tragedies are tragic, but the world is a tragic place. And sad things happen. But we get fixated on the outrageous stuff, when in reality there's lots of dangerous things out there of all kinds and this is but one of them).

People should be outraged by the much larger number of people that die every day due to medical mistakes. For what medicine costs, some of these mistakes are pretty dumb.

In my opinion, nothing meaningful will be done because nothing can be accomplished within the next election cycle, pure and simple.

Mental illness is absolutely a very real factor in these cases, and also an incredibly complex, long-term thing to address. So instead, we get over-simplified, black-and-white attempts at solutions that will do nothing, but sound good on the debate stage. And a media environment that perpetuates the clickbait mentality, aiding and abetting.

On average about 1,200 people die every day due to medical mistakes

I'm not trying to diminish these tragedies I'm just trying to put them in perspective because people tend to think they're extremely important, but they're actually just very newsworthy. In my opinion.
I agree. It really pisses me off that events like the mass shooting are used for political agendas and to boost news ratings.

Agreed. I hate these senseless shootings, and am always amazed how nobody screams about the same numbers of dead/injured happening on frequent weekends in numerous cities from gangs. Things only matter to some if there is something to gain.
I commented in another thread about how there was little coverage of 300,000 civilians murdered in Darfur years back. Crazy ass world on many points.
