Plex and a large NAS.Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a single app/program that can do it all in terms of sorting/organizing the DVD/VHS collection data.
I've been a DVD (and VHS) movie collector for many years and after buying 1 too many dups, I decided to finally catalog & organize these collections.
-----------------------------------------------------
I just finished cataloging all of my DVDs on an Android phone app called "My DVD Collection & Organizer."
My DVD collection includes 2,146 movie & TV show titles. The actual # of discs is greater than that. I also still have around 200-300 VHS tapes of movies that I did not yet replace with a DVD copy or that have still not been released on DVD.
The phone app allows me to add a "shelf" in which I can catalog the VHS tapes separately from the DVDs and the bar code reader in the app makes it a breeze to add them to the "shelf" because I've kept all of the VHS sleeves w/the bar codes on them.
However, I had to add all of the DVDs using the word search function in the app because I tossed the DVD cases and only kept the DVDs themselves.
Anyway, if you've got a large DVD collection that you'd like to catalog, I highly recommend this app. There is a small charge ($11) to buy it but there are no annual subscription charges to maintain the collection which is common with other apps of this type It's worth the $ IMO.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a single app/program that can do it all in terms of sorting/organizing the DVD/VHS collection data.
The phone app allows me to check what I already have while out & about so that I don't buy another dup. However, while the app will allow you to search for titles/dups, it does have any search functions beyond that. So, I downloaded a free DVD collection data program called "Filmotech" to do that.
But, unless I can figure out how to export/import the data between the app & the program, I've got to manually input all of the entries in the phone app in the program, so that I can sort the collection by media/genre/titles & actors.
So, there's still a lot more work to do.
-----------------------------------------------------
PS: My LP collection is about the same size as my DVD collection. I cataloged/organized the LP collection on Discogs.com but I have yet to add my CDs to the collection which also numbers about 1k titles.
However, if you've also got a large LP/CD collection, like I do, I highly recommend Discogs as a site where you can catalog it and where you can search by media type/ musical style/ title/musician. The site also gives you an estimated price range for the collection which is useful for insurance purposes.
-----------------------------------------------------
PPS: There are about 365 knives in my knife collection which I catalog by hand on a spreadsheet mainly to record purchase/sale data, but I really should catalog it in a DB program too.![]()
