So, how did your respective team do so far in the 1st round of the NFL Draft, last evening? I'm back on the Chargers bandwagon after ~ 5 years of abstaining in utter disgust (big fair weather fan in here :) )

ETA: I love our pick, Joe Alt. The Falcon's pick was a real, wut? Huh?!!!

No idea. I don't follow the draft. (Though my wife says that NYG fans are all giggly with the wide receiver they picked up.)

"Do y'all remember, before the internet, that people thought the cause of stupidity was the lack of access to information? Yeah. It wasn't that."

Unfettered access to the internet is harmful to children.

I think this is pretty well understood by most people now, but it was not obvious common knowledge, at least to me, when my kids were in middle school.

I don't think it affected my boy too bad, but in retrospect I do think access to things like TikTok were not good for my daughter at that age and in retrospect I wish I hadn't given her a smartphone.

Kids are gullible and you have to be careful about what kind of bullshit is being put in their heads. When we were kids, our access to the outside world was through TV and you had role models like Mr T. It's the wild West out there now and it's not a healthy place for easily influenced gullible people and children.

The internet has given everybody a voice. That seemed like a good thing at first. But that crazy homeless guy on the corner yelling that tomorrow is the end of the world, birds aren't real, the Earth is hollow (and also flat) and there are lizard people living down there, gender is a human construct, the elections are rigged, NASA controls the weather, vaccines cause autism, god hates fags, magenta is a real color - that guy has a voice now. And you don't want him talking to your kids.

So a word of warning to any parents of young kids: limit their access to the internet. They are gullible and will believe anything. And once a belief has a hold of you, it's difficult to shake it.
The parent limiting their children's access to the internet could have beliefs just as stupid as anyone else. The solution is not to limit access to information, it's to teach the child critical thinking and to question received information, including the parent's own teachings. Gullibility is caused by failure to filter correct info from incorrect info, not access to info.

Yes, they got a guy (Malik Nabers) who could be even "better" than Tyreek Hill but he's also kinda head case! Lots of Chargers fans wanted Malik, badly.

ETA: Da Bears aced it so far if Caleb amounts to anything good in the NFL.

Tyreek, Malik, the Giants are still up the creek.

(And not the one in Mooresville.)

As a random aside...

Last year, before Tyreek became a thing for the Giants, one of his teammates from high school or college, I forget, was raving about him while he was making me a sandwich at the local Ingles grocery store. I had no idea who he was, but my wife, God love her, knew exactly who he was talking about.

So, let that be a lesson...be really good at football or else consider what your other options are...

Pats got a QB (Maye), but with a defense-minded coach (Mayo), we'll see if he can actually prosper.

I very much agree with this

That is who the Commanders should've chosen at # 2. You guys got an excellent QB prospect outta NC who after all said and done, with a proper team around him, could be the clear winner in this QB class (although Belichik as a pundit, evidently was not too high on Maye).

And that sounds really good when you say it out loud

And I would subscribe to that

Except I have direct firsthand experience and visibility in this exact thing and I have found that what you're saying is actually not true. In an ideal world, maybe. But in reality, it just doesn't work out that way. It is magical thinking.

Hoping to prevent gullible children being exposed to misinformation from developing thinking errors by "instilling critical thinking in your children so they can differentiate real from fantasy" isn't going to work. Have you met children? Even the smart ones are really dumb. I would wager there has never been a child born in this world whose critical reasoning was strong enough to go up against unfiltered TikTok. Not gonna work. Not in the real world. Most adults can't even do that effectively.

You know, I’ve given this a lot of consideration. With a lot of very careful critical thinking, soon I discovered that this rock thing was true.

Jerry Lee Lewis was the devil.

Jesus was an architect previous to his career as a prophet.

All of a sudden, I found myself in love with the world.
So there was only one thing that I could do
Was ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long.
