Gravity is a beeotch !!! It seems like the older we men get, the more this happens ….

We used to have a couple of horses when I was younger, one being a sweet old paint horse creatively named "Paint." One day, my Opa started trying to convince us to sell Paint. Opa knew horses and was concerned that Paint would take a bite of feed and drop half of it back into the bucket before he was done chewing - apparently a sure sign that Paint was going downhill and would start needing more care than he was worth. My father quickly pointed out that, during his spiel, Opa had been eating tortilla chips and spilling crumbs on the ground beneath him, creating a sizeable pile. Opa chuckled and agreed that if he wasn't yet ready for the packing house then neither was Paint.

I think about that every time I (32) spill food (at least twice a day now).

^Hope the unfortunate situation you mentioned not long ago has taken a turn in the right direction Sir 🙏
lol it just keeps getting worse this week. My wife has had a bunch of (thankfully minor) complications, just the kind of stuff that naturally happens when you’re paralyzed and on a tube feed etc but still ranging from unpleasant to scary and on top of that I have some kind of virus-caused rash that I don’t want to give her so I haven’t been going in to visit the last couple days (and I got it from one of the kids so he’s been miserable and exhausted and I’m miserable and exhausted too but don’t have any kind of time for a break, I’ve been doing things like setting a 20 minute timer on my phone so I can nap during lunch breaks). It’s all stuff we’ll get through and normally wouldn’t be a big deal at all but it still sucks.

I hope everyone’s dogs get better soon. We just had to put our feisty beautiful girl down last week. It was heartbreaking and I hope no one else has to go through it anytime soon.
RIP Sadie. She was the best dog ever, just like yours.

Geez fellas, I'm sorry to hear y'all are having such a rough time. I hope things ease up soon.

It'll be a year in September that we had to let Skyler cross the bridge. It never gets easier. Thoughts are with you.

Perfect opportunity for me to ask the pro. Gravity or zappage?

Snapped this on OT a bit ago. Knarly.
The little guy could’ve been zapped up on a transformer or switch. Is it hanging from fishing line ?

The phone and cable guys use very small stainless steel wire that’s similar to baling wire. Maybe it got electrocuted, fell, and then got snagged on that stuff ?

Today at work, I’ve had three transformer outages that I think were caused by birds or squirrels. Funny thing is, they’re usually still onsite either cooked on top of the transformer or lying on the ground. Today, they were all MIA but I was able to refuse the transformers. There was bird shit and burn marks on top of them.

So here’s my question Mr. Postman: Where the hell does a bird or squirrel go when it dies ? 🤷🏻

I don't think that's lashing but I could be wrong. The lashing should be terminated before that splice case (on the left). That said, that is phone on the first level so it could be something I'm not familiar with. (former cable guy)

My imaginative side says that it's probably a spider's meal, just hanging out waiting to be drawn back into its lair within the splice case whenever it's ready to sup.

I like this version and the perspective. Btw, in your pics, you look nothing like this guy :

Man those spiders are nuts.... thanks a lot, China. Isn't this particular pic photo shopped though?

Stay strong, B Burke

I admire your strength in handling these hardships. I wish your family every good thing.
Thanks guys.

I don't mean to throw myself a pity party, there are good things too. I am taking the kids on a short family vacation in a litle bit and I reached out to the dogsitter we used last summer to see if she was available and she said "Oh I heard about your wife and I've been meaning to ask what I can do to help, I'll fit in whatever you need and no charge." I needed to put my youngest in some kind of camp for the summer and our local rec department director said "we don't have a space but I'll fit him in, don't worry about it" and then I got a receipt from her with all the charges zeroed out. I called her and said, "I thought you were helping me out just getting him a spot, I never expected not to have to pay anything, thank you so much." People have been incredibly kind and generous and it's truly humbling. My wife and I do a lot to be involved in our community and help out and it is being returned a hundred-fold this year and I'm beyond grateful for that.

Ha! Yeah, I lack the good looks and sheer inability to be funny.

I tell ya.... The number of "Cable Guuuuy!"s I had to put up with over those years... I just would smile and proffer the obligatory, "Yep, never heard that one before".

Quite possible. I don't know the provenance of the pic, just yanked if off the web. I think the one spider that I know that eats birds is the aptly named bird-eating tarantula (somewhere in South America, if memory serves).

Right. Pretty sure that's a joro spider. They're now in the south eastern U.S. (I believe) and are an invasive species.

I thought maybe it picked up bait with line attached and flew into the lines. Eagles get tangled up with large lures that guys tie strips of bait to, they their beaks and claws both get tangled.

Just got in, had a wonderful day. Haven’t done the Cascade Loop in a very long time, so we did it today. Left out from our house at 7am, went over Steven’s pass and headed up river to Twisp. Stopped at Hanks and filled up the cooler with beef.

Proceeded up the Chewuch River to the 8 mile sno-park area to our secret swimming hole and went swimming all day. Water was a perfect 50 degrees while it was 102 out. Took my breath away when I first dove in and almost went into shock 🤣.

We then went into Winthrop to grab a late lunch/early dinner, and get ice cream from Sheri’s. Headed out of Winthrop and stopped in Mazama for some water and a red bull, and headed home over highway 20 North Cascades. Saw the fire up at the top on Rainy Pass, pretty incredible and sad seeing a forest fire in person and 30 or 40 foot tall flames running up the side of a mountain.

Ford is still running, ran awesome actually. I am surprised as hell how good of diesel mileage it gets. I need to hand calculate and do some math but I am pretty sure it’s going to be in the 21-23 mpg ball park. 😍👍🏻

It was also sad how many city folks we saw at Diablo and Ross Lake. Usually it’s a handful of people, but there were so many people I couldn’t even see the beaches on the lake. City folks and social media have ruined the great outdoors we have here. 😡😔
