I spent some time with family in the west central part of the state this weekend, a little town named Whitebird. It was the site of the first battle of the Nez Perce war with the United States, a fight the natives won without loss that day. There is somewhat of a Park there and some reminders of the battle.

It looks dry there. Is there a drought?

Maybe a year from now - I'd love to see a comparison between the NASK, FF Camp Knife, GSO6 (or 5.1) and an FK Hatchula II (or Bush Operator XL).

Those are probably my favorite blades in that size, and their specs are pretty close to each other. Maybe throw an ESEE6 in the mix, just for fun, but it would surprisingly be the runt of the litter in that group.

The only disadvantage the ESEE 6 would have is the steel. The design and size on the 6 are perfect IMO, especially with TKC scales.

Id love to see a version of the esee 6 in some d3v with nice handles. Now that would be a real competitor. I haven't handled one of the new hc models yet but i heard they're an improvement over the original

I've been asking esee for a 6 in 3V with a 90* spine for YEARS. I'd really like to commission someone to make me one.

In the contest, I imagine the HDFK and the GSO would be about equal performance wise considering the new Gso uses D3V also. Ergos and raw ability I am not sure b/c I have not owned a Survive--I have heard they are thicker behind the edge. Nathan's balance and handle construction are hard to beat. If the HDFK is anything like the FK as far as balance and comfort, it will be tough to beat!

The FF Camp Knife is a fine blade. I have one and once sharpened up, it's a beast. Surprisingly, it is quite thin behind the edge for such a machine of a knife. It can do all manner of camp duties and also help with the food prep. Great handle and balance also. Not too heavy either. And as we know, Andy Roy's HTs are always perfect. The FF has a bit more blade height than the HDFK.

The Fletcher I have no experience with, but it looks nice and probably performs very well. The Esee is one of the best 1095 HTs imo and it would do very well as a survival/field/camp knife. 3v is just a different animal altogether as far as comparisons. I have owned an Esee 5 (not a 6 though) in the past and enjoyed it very much! Performed great and tough as ever!

After owning more than a dozen knives from S!K and selling every last one after finding CPK, I don't believe there is a model they have released that is comparable to CPK when it comes to performace as a cutting tool.

Nathan bases his geometry on the technical merits of the steel and HT used, so they are already optimized for performance. IMO there is no value is just making it way beefier and heavy duty as it adds unnecessary weight and reduces performace. The FK blew my comparable GSOs out of the water.

My only experience with FF is my custom Recluse by Andy. I've never actually used it as when I consider taking it out, and I think of the steel and maintenance and blah blah I end up with a FK. I figure I'll lose a bunch of value if I use it and holding it in my hand, all things considered I figure I better keep it mint cause it's likely to get sold. Just can see how it's going to outdo my FK.

F&F on my CPKs is much better even though my FF is a custom by Andy and the CPKs are sold as "Field Grade". So that's just kinda a disappointment to me.

As always, JMHO and YMMV.

Great info. and feedback - thank you, guys!

It is hard to beat CPK's performance, f&f, and overall value. It kinda sucks though when one blade/maker can render all your others nearly obsolete.

I still like my S!K blades (4.7, 5.1, 10 with a 6 & a couple 12s on order) and will always love my ESEE fam - but as far as my "go-to" knives, I think CPK will be the flavor of choice.

I also have some Survive knives on Pre-order, (GSO 3.5, 6, and 12) with the exception of possibly the 12, I will fondle them for a few days and more than likely sell them! Recently purchased a 4.1 and 4.7 off the exchange and sold them both as I felt they were not even close, or in the same league as the FK! Just my opinion of course:p

Part of the reason I've moved away from having tons of knives.

Between Shiro and CPK my needs are massively surpassed. And why have something that doesn't compare?
I have a feeling I will be in the same situation soon. I know MoS did that same thing with his S!K knives once he got his CPK(s).

Luckily, there's an abundance of knife-nuts on here so I doubt I will have any issues off-loading them. I just need to pay for a membership.

There are a couple blades that have real sentimental value for me, and a few that took me quite some time to track down, but many of them are production knives that could easily be replaced should the need arise.

Is your 4.7 old or new spec? I have an old spec 5.1 in 3V and a new spec 4.7 in CFV, and the contour on the new spec handles fit much nicer in-hand.

Just a few notes that hopefully will not ruffle some fathers:

I know that we have friends who visit us from the Survive! subform, some of whom own both GSOs and CPKs and some who just peruse this subform quietly and in "stealth" mode. I hope that we don't embark on the slippery slope of GSO denigration. Obviously we are now mostly over here and not over there because we have found a brand which suits us much better, irrespective of the actual production / management difficulties which have afflicted the GSOs. That said, I can think of at least 3 other guys who are both on here and also over there, who I would consider as very hardcore hunters / woodsmen over anyone else, including myself, who has commented on this page. I really do not wish to insult those friends and I am sure that if GSOs were overtly inferior products, those friends who are owners / users of both simply would not be wasting their time with owning / procuring Survive! knives.

I don't wish to come across as a hypocrite because I also sold all my GSOs and also cancelled all preorders, but not because I found them to be so inferior to be considered as a waste of time. I simply made such move because CPKs products, marketing and sales tempo happens to suit me better. Also, I currently do not use my "super knives" anywhere as extensively as some, but I am scooping up all that I can muster because I have a future retirement plan for myself when these knives will be invaluable tools at where I'm planning on using them. Truth be told, you can never go wrong with having more knives or there is no such thing as too many knives { :D } but if and when that need comes up for me, I can fill that void by buying ESEEs / Beckers at that time. In the meantime, I just did not want to have too much $ parked in 3V variants from 3 different Cos. At the end of the day the reason I went with CPK was because it made all the personal sense to me, without any negative reflection whether it's S! or FBF.

I'm getting 2 NASKs and hopefully can score a MC, I have 2 GSO-6 and 2 GSO-10 pre-ordered a year and a half ago. So whenever the S!K knives show up I will be doing some comparisons but having owed a GSO-5.1 new spec, I have a feeling that I will be keeping the NASK over the GSO-6.

Now, if I'm lucky and get my hands on a MC, how will the GSO-10 compare to a Medium Chopper, I don't know but one thing is for sure, CPK knives are tough to beat.

I have high hopes for the 4.5 bushcrafts I have on order.

That's the only one of interest to me. I had 2 on pre-order but got a refund long ago. Not much faith in the process.

I'm hoping the FK 2.0 goes more towards this way or the Bushcrafter Lorien is working on fills in the gap.

^ Also will be waiting with much excitement for the FK 2.0. I don't even know if Nathan likes using the term "bushcraft", but I was thinking that the FK 2.0 may turn out to be suited for those bushcrafty purposes.
