Tip down knives make my eye twitch.

Welcome Blues...er, Elliot! So which knife have you already picked as his first?

I actually do have a knife for him already.

For each of my boys I ordered a Fontenille Pataud folding laguiole with their initials engraved on the spring. That’s an 18th birthday present.

I do need a first knife for my 6 year old to start him on learning to skin rabbits. Still looking.

By the way, one of you medical types needs to come up with a good way to wrap an ear when you need to apply a petrolatum bandage on both the interior and exterior wounds. I'm usually decently creative, but this was a challenge. (I think I did better than the aide at the urgent care though.)

This is not political or a joke, but did you patch it up similar to Trumps ear? That seemed pretty good.

Spandage with telfa folded over the ear is easiest. Kerlix works well for wrap. Spandage is one of the greatest things ever. We used it all the time for head/ear wounds, legs, arms, and you can cut arm holes in the larger sizes for kids with trunk wounds/burns.

Ears are a true pia. There isn’t much are for swelling to go, so it can be painful. Difficult to bandage without Spandage or Kerlix. Uncomfortable trying to sleep… etc.

Thanks, B. Wish they would have given me some of that. I got some, gauze, tape and Xeroform petrolatum dressing to use until we have a follow-up in a couple of days.

Not bitching about the job they did at urgent care, the folks were nice and the suture job inside the pinna was really clean. I was surprised that there was enough meat to suture. My wife is very lean...not that anyone has fat ears in general.

Anyway, it's a friggin' Rube Goldberg project on my end. But it's holding so far.

I used plaster to make a mold to hold the bandage in place.

usual way is to take 4x4 gauze and fold it in a triangle, lay a bunch of these behind the ear with the 90 angle on the triangle pointing away from the ear, put some gauze over the top kind of molded to the inside of the pinna, and do a turban wrap around the head. Its pretty annoying. The point is to support the pinna away from the skull in a normal position and still put pressure on the ear. I'll see if i can find a diagram.
